Oh, I loved all of your comments on yesterday’s post. I found myself smiling as I was reading the stories about treasured items with dings and dents. I had planned on writing a lot more about how it applies to the way we view ourselves and aging and all sorts of things, but it felt right to leave the post where it was. And we were all on the same page. It was a pretty sweet thing.
Anyway, I was planning on taking pictures of the dresser I painted for my mom’s room last week, but the roads in her community weren’t plowed yesterday, so I couldn’t get there to take pictures. That will have to wait for another post…
I scrolled through my pictures to see what I could write about and, as I was scrolling, I kept stopping and opening pictures of cupboards. There are certain pieces of furniture that I am drawn to and primitive cupboards are definitely near the top of my list. You can see that clearly in what I pin on Pinterest and, if you ever went shopping with me, you would see me pet just about every old primitive cupboard I pass by. Especially ones with faded pine boards or perfectly aged paint. And bead board is always a bonus.
I like that they are utilitarian and can be an instant focal-point in a room.
…and they can be filled with a collection of ironstone.
And, since it was such a monumental storm, I just had to share a few pictures of the snow.
Yes, that’s my minivan under all of that snow!
It’s hard to tell exactly how much snow we had, because the drifting was so crazy, but I think we got around 30″. We had a perfect sunny day to dig out yesterday, so our area bounced back pretty quickly.
We really enjoyed being socked in for a couple of days as we lounged around and watched the snow accumulate. The timing was a bit unfortunate, though, because I have a retailer refresher training scheduled for Monday and Tuesday! About 3/4 of the attendees weren’t able to make it for obvious reasons, so we’ll just have a small low-key group and we’ll reschedule for another time.

Wow! You sure got a lot of snow!! We got about 8 inches, you sure got a ton! I bet the boys loved it!!
How beautiful! I miss the snow. We now live in a place where 1″ of snow is a rare and unwelcome occurrence. Stay safe and warm!

When we moved into our house, there was an old upper cupboard -obviously ripped off the wall, that had been used for tool storage in the basement. I think it must date to about 1930, when the house was built. I repaired the sides where wood was splintered and added some molding to be the top and bottom and painted it, of course. The end result is very much like the one in the first picture, though longer.
It sits in our dining room now, looking as if it has always been a proper stand-alone primitive cupboard and it makes me happy every time I open it.
I love blizzards – in moderation – there’s something wonderful about just having to take a day off from everything.
I love old things, especially furniture of any kind. However, I am completely jealous of your snow! I live in Gresham, Oregon and I told my husband when we retire I want to go where they get snow in the winter!
We are very Jealous of the snow over in the UK! The storm has turned to rain for us 🙁 boo!

One can not have to many old cupboards!!! Love them! Your snow looks awesome. Used to live in NY, moved south and like the other comment, a forecast for an inch of snow sends everybody out scurrying for their milk and bread! 😀
I’m right there with you about the old cupboards, but unfortunately they are really hard to come by down here and are even more scarce under $500 :/ I dream of an old pie safe or cupboard to turn into a liquor cabinet/bar someday.
And this south Texas girl is crazy jealous of that snow, it’s beautiful!

Marian I will let you keep the snow but would gladly take one of those cupboards! Especially the one filled with ironstone. I love seeing pictures of snow but just can’t do the cold thing-good thing I’m in South Ms. Like someone above said, let the weather man predict an 1″ or even just flurries here- people panick & start stockpiling bread, milk & water!
The one kitchen item I would fight for are my cake pans. They were my mother’s and they have a tab that slides under the cooled cake so that it lifts out easily. I doubt I could make a cake without them. Love your cubbords.
I to love cupboards, and filling them, I like iron stone, transfer ware, well, I like everything.
In RI got about 6 inches, my daughter lives in York, PA, she said they got 3 feet, so glad we missed it this time.
Lovely cupboards. I bought one once with top and bottom doors and drawers between. I spent $100. for it, but before I got through with it I had spent $400. more getting it repaired! I didn’t care, tho’, I loved it! And I never was able to put it where I had intended when I bought it because by the time it was all fixed we had remodeled the kitchen/dining area and no longer had room for it! My daughter has it now and uses it for linens. I never got it painted either, but now I think it was waiting for Miss Mustard Seed’s milk paint! Yeah, I’m sure that’s it.

Awe! Beautiful cupboards! In the process of working on one for storing my quilting fabrics. Top two thirds of the doors are glass. I painted the inside with Euchalies Sky with the intention of finishing the outside with Ironstone. After lightly sanding the piece the wood looked so good I decided to use Hemp oil on it and it really brought out the beauty of the wood. Though I’m still considering my original vision of Ironstone, I figure I’ll sit with it as is for awhile. After 32 inches of snow here in PA it may take me some time to be able to bring it into my sewing room anyway! LOL! Totally enjoying my adventure working , recreating with MMS paints! Another trip tomorrow to Restore to see what project is worthwhile of a MMS redo! Thanks for all the inspiration you share Marion?
