a sled, ski poles & French wing chairs

The snow is melting and spring is in sight.  That is spurring me on to make lists, attack my “to-do” stash at the studio and get things done.  Between freelance articles, things to do for the Milk Paint line, getting ready for Lucketts and an upcoming magazine shoot, I have plenty to work on!

After an intense day of planning and making lists, I needed to get out, so yesterday, Kriste and I set out to do some shopping for supplies.  We also hoped to find some things to add to the Lucketts pile.  It was one of those days where it felt like people who like the same things I do picked over the space before I got there.  I found some things, but not the haul I was hoping for.  We’re going to scout out some new places in the hopes of finding some great things.  Lucketts is two months away, but I want to make sure my space is stuffed with goodies.

I’ll show you more of what I bought in a few days, but today, I couldn’t resist shooting this sweet sled…

…and bamboo ski poles.

The poles came with some really ugly plastic snow shoes, but we managed to see past those (and they went straight into the trash.)

I finally used the piles of snow left in our parking area to my advantage and threw some into the photo shoot.

When I wasn’t running around the parking lot with handfuls of snow, I worked on upholstering this chair…

It’s a gorgeous old chair frame that I traded for last May and the poor thing has been sitting around, neglected.  I hauled it and a few other chairs-in-waiting out and that’s what we tackled today. I shared a little preview on Instagram.  I am going to trim this chair out in a custom double-welting, so I’ll share how to make that soon.

A sneak peek at what I accomplished today…

I also ended up with these amazing French wing chairs.  My dad picked them up today and Kriste and I were totally in love with them.  We just sat in them across from each other.  She was admiring my chair and I was admiring hers.  I finally said, “They are so unique and wonderful, they just might be keepers.”

My dad is going to pick up three more French chairs tomorrow, including a really pretty pair of bergeres. I haven’t been able to find a well priced dresser in weeks, but I have been on a roll with French chairs.

If I’m on a roll with something, French chairs are a good thing, right?

In case you missed it, I have a couple of new workshops scheduled.  One is a “Bring Your Own Furniture” MMS Milk Paint Workshop on March 28 and the other is a Photography Bootcamp on March 27.  You can check out the details HERE.

  1. Love those wing chairs! My husband and his family are all very tall so I’m always looking for tall backs on seating. Can’t wait to see what you do with these!

  2. What a great find in the sled and poles, they have such a good vintage vibe. The smaller chair is also a beauty and looks like it had really good bones. Do you have specific places that are your go to for finds like these?

  3. I love all your finds, but those french wing chairs, I fell so in love with. If you decide to get rid, I would sooooo buy them! Here’s to more melting! Come on Spring!

  4. I absolutely love the wing chairs! I’ve been on the hunt for beautiful chairs here, but they are not too common on the Florida gulf coast. 😉 I’ve been wondering, what is a good price for Bergeres and other vintage chairs?

  5. Great finds, the sled and poles are adorable! Those French chairs are FABULOUS! So unqiue and their own I agree with you keeping them!

Can’t wait to see all those chairs done!

  6. I’ve been on the hunt for a few chairs myself….but I’m not sure if the ones i find are “good deals”… (fine shape just need upholstered & stained or painted) Do you go with a set budget? These are gorgeous! Can’t wait to see the after pictures:-)

  7. Nothing more comfortable than a wing chair and those have style! A pair on either side of a fireplace is so nice. They’re definitely keepers.

  8. Love the blue buffalo check on the new chubby chair. I also love the 2 tall chairs. I know you’ll have to change the fabric, but I love the warmth of the gold. Is it velvet? I bet they would be very cozy flanking a hearth. You should buy an old mantle. Maybe you could keep the fabric for some accents??

  9. Oh, those wonderful wing chairs! They would look lovely at each end of your dining room table!
And I love the check fabric on the french chair. There is just something about checks, isn’t there?

  10. Love the check. Did you know that back in the day buffalo check was considered formal!
Thomas Jefferson had buffalo check in his home Virginia home.
