bunny pull-toy

I know…again with the kid’s stuff, but this bunny pull-toy was just too cute to pass up!  I got it at a good price, because it didn’t have its original paint and, unfortunately, someone who wasn’t very artistically inclined tried to paint a face and spots on him.  The eyes were big and black with Raggedy Anne styled lashes.  It was just a little overdone and took away from the beautiful shape and legs of the piece.  I can’t fault someone for trying, though!

I decided to give the bunny a softer, less Tammy Faye Bakker look.  I painted the body in MMSMP Ironstone.  It took two coats to get nice coverage.  Then, I used Shutter Gray to paint the spots, ears and very simple oval eyes.  I left the cream paint on the wheels, because they had a pretty patina and I thought complimented the lighter shade of white on the body.  A light distressing of the edges specifically, but all over as well, softened the “newness” of the paint.  I finished the entire piece with a coat of Hemp Oil.

This little bunny looks so sweet now!

I allowed the milk paint to chip in a few places, so the cream could show through and tie in with the wheels.

It’s hard for me to let this one go, but it will be for sale this Saturday at The Chapel Market…

  1. LOL at Tammy Faye lash reference, poor little bunny! But it’s a beauty now Marian. Even toys were much more beautiful and well made back in the old days. Ha! I sound like a real old person now.

  2. SweeeeeT! You are amazing, Marion– how you find a great piece and make it wonderful! Makes me want to search ebay and etsy for a bunny pull-toy!!

I did just find an old wood wagon….and bought several of your MMSMP colors, a large round brush and large bottle of your Hemp Oil. I love the oil and used it on several pieces I normally would have used Howards on. Wow, did it save time and effort! I have arthritis in my thumbs/wrists and applying the hemp oil with your brush really saved my hands!!

Oh, and I LOVE checking out your wonderful blogs each day…they are a highlight! Thank you for letting God use you in amazingly creative ways! You are a blessing to so many women!!

  3. Marian,
I really think you should keep her…great prop for Easter and spring! I have a real bunny and love that pull toy! I vote that you keep it. 🙂
    Blessings

  4. Darling makeover! Not too fond of the new ads popping up (so intrusive – on the first photo in the post) though I do understand that advertising is part of the business model for blogs. Have fun in Alabama!

    1. Try installing Ad Blocker Plus. It removes most of the ads on web sites and it’s free! I have been using it for awhile now.

  5. I love Shelley’s idea too of using it for a Easter or Spring prop. There is something really sweet about the old toys of yesteryear and the great thing was most didn’t require batteries or a engineering degree to put it together.

  6. Love the way this turned out! That cream color on the wheels and peeking through on the body is so pretty… maybe a new MMSMP color? “Parchment”? 😉

    1. I too would love to see a deeper cream color in MMS paint line up. The linen color is too close to the ironstone in some applications. BTW love the bunny, so charming, and I’m sure you will find another great bunny of some sort by Easter time.

  7. So cute. Would be so pretty on a spring mantel or an Easter buffet. I think it would be really cute for a nursery too. Have a good time at the Chapel. Market. Unfortunately Alabama is too far to travel for this Midwesterner but I am so looking forward to pictures from you.

  8. ha ha! would love to see the Tammy Faye version! you could copy it and have your husband make more, your version of course!

  9. I am tied to home and work but wish I could get to Alabama. If Miss Bunny
does not sell ( that would be hard to believe)- would you offer her on
your site? I have a daughter we call Bunny!
Your blog truly brightens my day!

  10. I love, love, love this bunny! What a darling piece and I hope someone takes very good care of it – I wish I was able to be there to purchase it! Safe travels and BEST WISHES for a successful Chapel Market!

  11. Mms I couldn’t read your post because an obnoxious add that wouldn’t go away just hung in there. The bunny what I could see of it is cute tho I just thought you should know, I am using an i pad
