The upside and downside of pieces of art are each work is one of a kind. That’s why it makes it special to own one. But, one upside of a painting is that, unlike a piece of furniture or an antique I’ve fixed up, prints can be made of painting! So, those who loved the original and weren’t able to snap it up, can get a print. A few of the paintings I launched in my last sale have already been picked up for licensing (to be produced and sold in stores), but it can take about a year for a piece to go through the entire manufacturing process and end up in a retail shop or website. While the paintings are fresh in the minds of those who were interested, I wanted to make them available as prints (and a few other products) on .
I’ve sold on for a few years and I’ve been impressed with their quality and have heard good things from those who have purchased products and prints from them. One thing I like about selling through them is that there are so many options from frame style and finish to print/canvas size. And everything is shipped from Society6, so I can spend more time painting and less time packing.
Most of the still life paintings from this last sale are available as canvas prints as well as framed and unframed prints.

A few of the paintings are available as blank notecards…

And I made this one ! I love doing puzzles over the holidays, so I will order this and see how it is. I imagine it’ll be a bit tricky, but finish-able!

And, all of products are currently 20% off, so it’s a great time to order.
In addition to the new paintings that have been added to my , there are some oldies still available…

Along with wrapping paper patterns that are neutral enough to be used all year…

Some pillows…

Zipper punches and totes…

I’ve had a few busy days with appointments and such, but I’m excited about getting back to the easel and I hope to have my next original art sale in April.

When looking at the offerings on Studio6, I didn’t see any of the paintings offered. Are there only prints available?
Yes, these are all prints. I sell the originals here on my site.
Just a warning yo everybody that it is very difficult to place an order with Society6. I have tried about three times with no luck receiving the product. The last time I thought the order went thru so I waited and nothing for two weeks so I tried calling the company no luck there and after a month my credit card was charged but still no product received. So I wrote them a note it took two more months for me to receive a credit. I will never even think of ordering from them again. Any company who does not have good customer service is not worth dealing with. My order was over a $100 !
Irene, I believe this was an anomaly. I’ve placed several orders and so have many friends and acquaintances of mine and I have never heard this issue from anyone else. I am sorry you had that trouble, though!
I would be quite upset if I had ordered an original painting from Miss Mustard Seed thinking I would have the only one like it and then found out that multiple prints are being sold.
I agree that I would not like it if an original that I had bought and paid a nice amount for was then copied and sold as prints, notecards, puzzles, etc.
Bev, please see my reply to Laura on this matter. I respect that view, but that is not how I have decided to do business as an artist.
I have purchased 5-6 original paintings and a couple art prints from Marian. I have no problem allowing someone to have an art print of the original painting that I purchased! Knowing that I have the original is all I need! Marian, thank you for sharing your art with us!!
I respect that view and some artists share it. It really comes down to the business side of being an artist. If I only sell originals, then I have to paint every single thing that I sell. I am limiting myself greatly and can only earn an income when I produce. If I sell prints of my work, then the pieces I create can continue to earn an income years after it was initially created. Keep in mind that retain the copyright to my creative work. That does not transfer to the buyer of the painting.
If someone wanted to be the sole owner of the work and purchase the copyright from me, they would be much more expensive.
I agree with the above comments…. I would not be happy if I had bought an original and then saw that copies were going to be made as prints, puzzles, napkins, etc.
Oh dear, should Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, Hopper, Sargeant, Warhol and all the other wonderful artists never have sold their originals as prints??
Marian – You do you!! Grateful that we can enjoy your wonderful art as prints when we can’t afford or type fast enough to grab an original. Look forward to you next sale. 🙂 🙂
That’s what I thought when I read the above comments. An original is still the only original, a print is a copy.
While I have had trouble with FedEx, I have had a good experience with Society6. When FedEx failed to deliver according to their time schedule, I contacted Society 6 and they sent out a second order to replace the undelivered one. Finally FedEX delivered and I ended up receiving 2 large prints within a couple of days apart. When I told Society 6 I received both, they told me to keep both and enjoy!
I would appreciate it if I am allowed one more comment. For those of us who cannot afford an original or are not fast enough to snag one on a sale, we are very grateful for the opportunity to have such wonderful art from You! Your art brings peace and joy to my home, and I don’t hide the fact that its an art print if anyone asks. So, If having an original is important to anyone, buy an original and know it is such. A reproduction doesn’t take away from that joy for you, but allows joy for others.
I agree!
Exactly!
Yes, I agree! And, owning an original is very different from owning a print, which is why original paintings are more sought after.
A print is very different from an original. I feel lucky that I can get a print of one that I love because I couldn’t afford the original. Thank you Marian!
I have ordered several of your prints from Society6 and have been very pleased with the quality. I didn’t have any trouble ordering and received them very quickly, so no complaints here. I was lucky enough to purchase one of your originals last Friday and can’t wait to receive it, but I also saw another one on Society6 (a print) that I missed. I’ll be ordering a canvas print of that one soon!
I would love to know what you think of the quality of the canvas prints?
I’m so happy to hear some of your paintings are on Society6. I had a very good buying experience when I purchased your sailboat print a couple of years ago.
I was sorry to miss your recent sale, but the truth is I don’t have very much space in my cottage for more art. Haha.

I was not expecting to see so much anger in the comment section on Miss Mustard Seed. I wonder if ANY of those people actually bought the original painting. They all say, “If I had…” Do you buy books, music, watch movies? Those are all prints and not originals. By buying the original you still get to have the item the creator actually touched, don’t let the fact that a print was made disturb you. There are too many other actual problems we are facing.
I think prints are great because it allows the artist to continue to make money and it saves me money while still giving me the pleasure of having beautiful decor.
Agree! Very well said Anna.
It is common practice for artists to sell prints. Go to any of the premier art festivals around the country and you will find artists selling prints alongside their originals.
Marion, I am wondering how you determine the prices on your lovely paintings. My daughter in law also paints lovely nature but never sells because she doesn’t know what she should charge. Any advice would be most welcome. She ends up gifting all her art and tho, we are all most grateful, we do feel she could sell.
