Have you tried the “Parker House Rolls” recipe by Half Baked Harvest? You can find the printable recipe and all of the details HERE. I made them last year for the first time and they were so delicious. My family talked about them as Thanksgiving approached this year. “…and you’re making those rolls, right?” “Mom, why can’t you make bread like this for just a normal day.” And, I must admit, as someone who loves bread and butter, I was looking forward to these at Thanksgiving as well. I’ll be making them again for Christmas along with some cinnamon buns for Christmas eve.

Last year, I tried making the Parker House rolls recipe a day ahead and putting them in the fridge overnight between rises, but they didn’t turn out quite as well as just making them the same day. While they aren’t a quick bread (they need time for two rises), they aren’t difficult to make and don’t require very much hands-on prep time.

The honey butter definitely makes these Parker House Rolls above and beyond regular rolls. The fact that you can eat them warm, right out of the oven, definitely helps! Few things beat fresh bread in my book.

The recipe makes twelve Parker House rolls and I divide them into two square baking dishes to give them plenty of room to rise.

I accidentally buttered the tops ahead of the rise, but they still turned out just fine.

Oh my, can you just smell the fresh bread through this picture? I am already looking forward to having them with our Christmas brunch.

They were the first thing reached for at Thanksgiving. In fact, Marshall had one as a snack while he was waiting for the stuffing and sweet potatoes to come out of the oven.

You can see one roll missing from the dish. A silent testimony to the yumminess of these Parker House rolls.
So, if you’re looking for a good fresh bread recipe to include with your holiday meals, this one is a winner and I thought I would share.

I’ve never tried making rolls, but want to study this over. Thanks!
They look delicious!
I love Parker House rolls too! I was lucky enough to get to spend 10 weeks on business in Boston years ago and stayed at the Parker house hotel in downtown Boston where They originated. They are delicious rolls, it’s a beautiful hotel, (I highly recommend it), and it’s one of my favorite cities because it is so walkable! What a great idea to add them to the holiday table!

My recipe for Parker House Rolls are in the shape of cloverleaves…you roll the dough into three balls and stuff them into a muffin tin. They are light and fluffy and naturally, delicious.
The scent of baking bread/rolls is the best scent in the world…no matter what the recipe is. Don’t get me started on freshly baked cinnamon rolls…
That’s been my technique too but think I’ll try Marian’s this year.
I make a buttery cresent roll for Thanksgiving and Christmas and have tried making them on the day but it gets crazy. I have found that making them a few days early and freezing them in heavy foil makes the day easier. I pop them in a hot oven for few minutes and they are delicious! I do the same with an almond braid for Christmas breakfast.
Wishing you have a Merry Christmas!
Since I am gluten intolerant, I’m going to try this recipe with a GF flour, probably Bob’s Red Mill cup for cup.
When I read the recipe, it says only one rise, and for about 20 minutes, The rcipe sounds really good, and since I have the honey and the yeast, it’s on my llist for tomorrow.
I’m definitely going to make the rolls. They sound delicious!
Also, wondering where you got the beautiful tool shown in the pictures with the brass and wood handle? You could do an entire blog on that. 🙂
I agree. The tool was the thing that caught my eye!
My son and his girlfriend made this recipe last year on Christmas Day. It was December 2020 and her family had a possible exposure so she could not go home and spent Christmas with us. She loves to bake so they made this exact recipe to go with my Italian Wedding Soup. It was a cozy delicious meal and a relaxing stress free way to spend Christmas.
