Adventures in yard saling

I am an avid yard saler. I wake up Saturday mornings with anticipation of what I might find that day. Last Saturday I didn’t get the chance to set out early, but I was able to stop at a few on my way home from an errand. So, I’m driving up to a yard sale off of a main road and I decide to pull off on the shoulder instead of pulling into the host’s driveway. Wrong move. As I slowly pulled up, my front tire dropped off the road into a trench that was not visible due to the high grass. With my front right tire in the trench, my back left tire was about a foot off the ground. Thoughts of how I was going to explain destroying our van to my husband and the insurance company were rushing through my mind and my heart was in my stomach. I live in a rural area and, despite having to drive over 30 minutes to get to a Target or Panera Bread, I was very thankful for it that day. Just about everyone has a truck, a chain, and the knowledge to pull a girl’s car out of a trench. After making a big fool of myself with my parking job, I managed to make a lesser fool of myself by stepping in about 6 inches of mud to hand the gentleman my car keys. After this ridiculous charade and their kindness…I didn’t buy a thing at the yard sale. I was hoping something exciting would happen, but more along the lines of finding something worth $300 that I only have to pay $5 for. Well, maybe next time. I plan to include future “favorite finds” blogs, so stay tuned for more.

  1. I’m reading through your older posts to see how everything started and I found this one. It made me smile. That could have been me making a fool out of myself…:)
But it makes us humans ;P

  2. LOL, I too was reading through your older posts and laughed at this one. My first post on my new blog was about how much I miss having a Target 5 minutes away! I just recently moved out to what I kindly refer to as “the sticks” and it has been a huge adjustment. I love your blog and your work!

I take a hybrid approach when it comes to running my life and organizing my thoughts.  I like paper, pencils, and pens for writing down ideas, planning, and managing my day.  While old-fashioned notebooks are my preference for most things, I rely heavily on a digital calendar and reminder alarms
