I am continuing to do some tweaking on my newly made over guest room. Most of the room is perfect, but there are still a few small things to take care of. Today I swapped out the mirror above the dresser with a framed piece of antique lace.
I love this mirror, but it was just too low to be functional and it looked a little funny wedged between the coved ceiling and the dresser.
I bought this piece years ago at a consignment shop for about $28. I’ve loved it in the blue for quite a while, but it was time for a change.
I took the piece apart, washed the glass and cut a new piece of backing. I then cut a piece of linen to size and put it all back together again. The cream linen still sets off the lace, but there’s less of a contrast, so it’s easier on the eyes.
Next up…painting the attic doors white.

I almost spewed my coffee when I though you only paid $28 for the chest of drawers! I love that chest! But then I realized you meant the lace piece. Which looks great there. Glad you swapped out the mirror. It did bug me a tad being so low. Not that I'd be staying in your guest room 😉

I love the lace piece with the linen backing. I have several old crocheted doilies that were made years ago by the neighbor I had when I was growing up. I have plans to frame them and you've motivated me to get them out and get busy. The framed piece looks great above the dresser and the guest room is a gorgeous space!

Beautiful! How did you attach the doily to the backing? We have our last name crocheted and I'd like to change out the backing, but I've never gotten around to it. 🙂

Hi Again…I know I left a comment earlier, but would really like it if, when you have time, comment on the aqua set I have done (displayed in my blog) for summer! Also, do you ever use the Zinzer products for bonding and stain killing/priming?? I use the Binz 1-2-3 and I find it to be the best stain killer. Also, I can add amonia to my applicater (sprayer/roller/brush and get it clean and washed away down the drain. I so much respect your opinion and advice. Thank you, Karen

I'd also like to know how you keep the lace on the backing. That mirror definitely didn't belong there, and the lace is beautiful in it's new home.
I have that same exact dresser! (I found it in someone's "trash" in the alley in our neighborhood–can you believe it?!)
