I wasn’t sure if I was going to get a second tree this year. It’s been a little hard to really dig into the holiday decorating with it being our first year in this house, but as Christmas crept closer, I just couldn’t resist. I mean, I had acquired an antique goat cart this summer with the idea that it would hold a Christmas tree. So, it just had to happen.
I picked out a squat spruce tree, which somehow seemed perfect for the goat cart…
The tree is kept in a wooden bucket with a box and a paint bucket liner inside to hold the trunk and the water. I also added a couple of rocks from the yard to keep the box from shifting.
Because the tree is so squat, the branches rest against the wall, making it a little sturdier in my make-shift stand.
It’s decorated with some white lights, felt star garland (bought from Restoration Hardware a couple of seasons ago) and some grain sack, ticking, and linen stars, hearts, and mini stockings. I also clipped on more of the battery-powered candles from Balsam Hill. It’s simple and just what I wanted.
It’s so fragrant and I love that it can be seen in the front window from outside the house.
There’s just something cozy about that.
Just a few more presents to buy and wrap and I think the Parsons’ house is ready for Christmas!

I’ve been struggling with decorating my house this year, which was wondering if it was because it’s our first Christmas in it. So glad I’m not alone! I think that I also get distracted by the other ongoing projects (painting the front entry, staining the bannister, hanging up everyday artwork, etc) that we still have going on. I find when I start decorating it makes me want to finish some of these projects off. I’m like my golden retrievers when they see a squirrel. Squirrel! I always love to see how you’re going to decorate, and have enjoyed your posts this week. And the squat tree in the goat cart is adorable!
