another keeper

Thanks so much for all of the feedback on my horse.  I’ve decided I’m going to keep him.  You’re all a bad influence.  You know that?  Or maybe a good influence.  I know I’m going to be glad I kept him.  Maybe we’ll have a “name that horse” contest to win ornaments from my Christmas line or something like that.
While shopping on Friday, I found something else I knew I was going to keep….this hutch.
I bought it for an HGTV.com article I’m working on and figured I would sell it when I was done.  I found the perfect place in my house for it, though, so it’s a keeper.  I love it when that happens!
I’ve always wanted a chippy, old hutch to house some ironstone and linens in and this is perfect.  I’m still debating over whether I want to paint the interior or not…hmmm…
I’m looking forward to having some time to pay attention to my house a bit once the holiday open house is over.  I have curtains to sew and rooms to paint and all sorts of work to do.  Although all of my work is DIY/home related, it’s sometimes nice to work on things that I get to keep and enjoy.  Things that are for myself and my family.  My mom is also coming up in a few weeks to help me out and I plan to take full advantage of having her here!
Before I go, I just want to say that this is a very exciting time for me and my business.  I just found out within the last few days that I am one step closer to reaching two of my goals…dreams, really.  We’ll see how things shake out, but it’s exciting.  Thanks so much to everyone who reads and subscribes to my blog, to those who link to me and post about me, those who sponsor my blog, encourage me, support me and purchase the things I find and make.   You are all a part of this amazing journey.
I am very blessed.

  1. you work for it!
Amazing hutch! I saw an amazing old chippy shabby perfect farm table at a garage sale on Sat. I didn't want them to see my excitement, so I tried to act calm. NFS! Just display! In a garage sale?! It's just not right…

  2. I love that hutch ! It is just like one my grandmother had in her dining room for years. Wish I knew what happened to it. You deserve all the best , good luck with all your endeavers .

  3. I'll have to go check out this horse! I must have missed that one. The hutch is perfect! Any chore is much easier when your mom is helping you out isn't it? Have a wonderful visit with her and good luck on your dreams maybe coming true!

  4. I LOVE the hutch! I especially love that the interior is natural! I have a hutch that I acquired recently that is a reddish colored wood, not my favorite, but if done with a white outside? I might just like it better! Thanks for the inspiration!

  5. You're truly proof that it just takes the faith of a mustard seed! You've given Him the glory and He is making your dreams a reality…but you have worked hard and deserve the rewards!! Blessings

  6. Before I found your blog, I could only sew pillows, then I found your slipcover video, I had the perfect chair for it, I sewed a custom slip cover for a wing back chair in 4 days! I owe it all to you!

  7. No!! Don't paint the inside! The natural material is wonderful…it's a rest for the eyes AND will help give your ironstone a nice backdrop that doesn't take from the beauty of the collection. Just my two cents. 🙂

Wonderful 'half' news today and sentiments. We are all blessed. Sometimes we just don't stop long enough to realize it!

  8. I am bringing my painting pants and my Oma skills. Can't wait to get there to help and also to see those boys. Counting the days.

  9. Marian that hutch is gorge!!! I would definitely leave the inside as is. The ironstone sitting there looks perfect!

And THANK YOU for inspiration. I am officially HOOKED on your blog. I may not comment every night, I'm constantly checking to see if you've posted:)

  10. Beautiful hutch. The dark wood is a nice way to highlight the ironstone, but I think a pop of colour would also be lovely.

Good luck with whatever you have cookin'!

  11. Oh! How exciting for you to possibly have something happen that's part of your dream! Saying prayers that this is the real deal. Can't wait to hear either way!

And the hutch is a sweet find! Ya know, I think the inside would look awesome in a dark teal, similar to the shade in your dining room drapes with the grooves of the backboard painted white or left brown, but I'm sure what you have in mind will end up looking 100x better than the picture in MY head(sometimes "in my head" is color blind-LOL!). No matter what, you get to keep it!!

  12. I have a very similar cabinet that was in my hubby's family. I stripped it, top coat mint green, baby blue next, then pink, last white. It took a loooooong time but I love it. I left the wood and painted the inside cream. Enjoy yours. Colleen Q

  13. I have been searching for a step back cabinet for months and still have not found one in my price range. Great cupboard!

  14. Marian I am so pleased for you that you are so close to reaching two of your dream goals, that is very exciting, and very well deserved. Can't wait to hear what they are!

    xx Karen

  16. I love that "Mama Mustard Seed" comments on your blog! That is awesome. — You are such an inspiration to me. I can't wait to hear all about your wonderful news!

  17. Love the hutch, what a great find. So excited for you and your business. You deserve all the success and happiness in the world!

  18. Too funny! I had a hutch in my journey today as well! My hutch is quite old, white and it leans a bit to the left. At the last house, I kept it between my son's twin beds. We live in California, so it was bolted to the wall in case of earthquake. We just moved last week and my white hutch is now in the breakfast nook, holding all our cookbooks and Moroccan tagines! It looks splendid.

  19. What a great hutch! When I saw it my first thought was, "Oh, I love the contrast if the inside to the outside!" That's the hard thing about being able to do whatever you want to a piece – it can look great so in more ways than one. 🙂

Praying for you about whatever is in "the works".

  20. If I may be so bold, I would leave the inside (for now). That's not my usual stance on these things but I think it's beautiful as is!

  21. I love the hutch! The dark inside looks amazing with the ironstone, but painting it will look great too – maybe a cool color. Love reading all you have to say! Good luck on your dreams becoming reality ~ you deserve it!

  22. Like many before me – I like the dark interior color with your whiteware, but we all know that whatever you choose to do with the finish be beautiful!

You sure work hard and share so much. You certainly deserve to meet your goals and realize your dreams!

  23. I've never written on here, but I've been following your blog daily since my new husband and I moved into our first apartment a few months ago. Anyways, I decided to write on here because I like the hutch as is! Don't paint the inside! 🙂

  24. Trying not to be bossy here, but why look a gift horse in the mouth? (unless it is the little rocking horse, of course!) That hutch is so perfect just as it is. Why not just let it be. You'll get a break and I think you will love it as is.

  25. Oh, don't paint the inside of that hutch–it looks so perfect like it is! 🙂 I'm glad you'll be able to work on some things for your own home in a few weeks. VERY excited for you to be meeting some more of your goals. The Lord is gracious! Enjoy your mom 🙂

  26. Yay! The horse stays…..woot woot and the hutch equally as special…your hard work pays off you need to reward yourself plus great pieces for photo ops! Congrats on all your success….it's a win win for us all…we get to enjoy and learn for you.

  27. I agree with some of the other commenters: the inside of the hutch "as is" provides amazing contrast with your dishes and speaks to it's original life. I love it the way it is if it's going to keep displaying your dishes!

  28. Beautiful piece!!! I am so happy for whatever news you've received and pray for blessings and inner peace in all of the busy-ness of life. Hoping you're having an awesome day! Let's catch up soon!

  29. Love the hutch! I would be torn on painting the inside…love the warmth of the brown contrast.

I don't blame you on keeping the horse…what a treasure! Looking forward to the name you choose. 🙂

    Have a creative day,

    Amy

  30. Beautiful piece! I love that the outside is perfectly chippy and the inside is as natural as it comes… please don't paint it! 🙂 YAY for keeping the rocking horse! I never really looked twice at these before, but now that I see yours, I love it and wouldn't ya know, I see there's one coming up at an auction tomorrow night. I am not sure it's my style, but I'm curious to see how much it goes for. I can't wait to learn what good news is coming your way:)

  31. Marian, we all so enjoy watching your success, and watching you become just what you are supposed to be. You are exceeding all your expectations…and thank you for sharing. Watching your potential come to fruition is so fun! And I love the horsie and the hutch! beverlee

  32. I have a big cherry hutch like yours I think it's one of our favorite pieces. Sometimes it holds dishes sometime we use it like a bookcase you will love having it! So excited to hear your news. Thank you for the fun you bring us and inspiration your talent brings. Guess your name says it all.

  33. Oh, to paint or not to paint…I love the close up shot where the woods looks grayed. You can't tell from the full hutch shot. But what a find – super vintagey chippy! Someone mentioned it in a previous post – but again, thank you for being such an inspiration in blog land! 😉 I painted my first Union Jack dresser with ASCP and love it!

  34. I just wanted to say that I thoroughly love your blog, and the creativity you put into each piece. I love to refinish furniture around our house, but when life keeps me busy with 2 little ones, it is a welcome break to sit down with a coffee and sift through your posts. 🙂 Thank you! Blessings as you pursue your dreams!

  35. Blessed and in control of your destiny, your hard work and love for what you do really shows! You're so creative and inspiring. You've inspired me!!

  36. I love your hutch just the way it is! It really brings out your ironstone! You really do find some great things!

  37. I like the interior the way it is. the dark colour against the white ironstone makes your items pop out more.
you are very talented and love how you find something pretty in found items. 🙂 Thank you for sharing your tips. I am on my way to having semi- artistic skills. 😉
