10 minute fall decorating

It’s time for another 10 minute decorating idea!  This month, me and a few other bloggers are sharing 10-minute fall decorating ideas.  I love these quick and easy ideas that show seasonal decorating doesn’t have to be complicated, expensive, or over the top.  It can be simple, fun, and pretty.

fall 10 minute decorating ideas | miss mustard seed

As I’ve shared before, when it comes to my home and seasonal decor, I keep things fairly simple and natural.  I’m really over the idea of having tons of bins of decorations that have to be stored and brought out each year.  I know some people thrive on that and it brings them a lot of joy.  If that’s you, go for it!  If you want to bring a bit of autumn to your home, though, without all of the bins, here are some simple fall decorating ideas…

simple fall decorating idea no. 1 | place some pumpkins

A no-brainer is adding a few pumpkins around the house.  I go for the white and heirloom varieties when I can find them.  I don’t mess with carving or anything.  I just plop them around the house on stacks of books, nestled in bowls, tucked on a shelf.  It’s simple but pretty.

simple fall decorating idea no. 2 | branches in a jar

Clip some branches with brightly colored leaves and stick them in a jar, like a bouquet.  You can also find preserved leaves or even use a branch that’s been stripped bare!  branches also look great in crocks, ironstone pitchers, and tall baskets.

simple fall decorating idea no. 3 | snacks on display

I love putting out a bowl of mixed nuts in their shells each year (and they usually stay out for a few months.)  They add a pretty, natural texture and I think there is something inviting about it.  My Oma used to keep a bowl of nuts with a nutcracker rested on top on her coffee table and I always loved it.  I’m glad I can carry on that tradition.

simple fall decorating idea no. 4 | scatter pine cones & seed pods

I don’t keep a lot of bins of seasonal decor, but I do store a box of pine cones in the basement, but I use them year after year and I can’t imagine them going out of style!  I like to nestle them around the house, put them in jars, bowls, baskets, or just sitting out on their own.  It immediately adds texture and cozies things up.

simple fall decorating idea no. 5 | feather your nest

For some reason, pheasant and turkey feathers say “fall” to me.  I like to arrange a bunch of them in an ironstone sugar jar or small pitcher.  They also look pretty under a cloche or in a glass jar.

simple fall decorating idea no. 6 | dress in layers

While your adding layers to your wardrobe with scarves, sweaters, and jackets, add a few wool throws, cable knit pillows, etc. to upholstered pieces in your home.  They add visual (and literal) warmth to a room as well as provide an opportunity to bring in some rich colors, texture, and cozy patterns.

  4. I have 16 bins of Christmas decorations in my crawlspace. In recent years I have become more of a holiday minimalist and I love it. A few touches here and there is all I need to make me happy.
