Today was sort of a mixed bag for me.
We’ll start with some of the good. I got more Chalk Paint colors to try and I received a fun box of goodies from one of my new sponsors, Cat from Baby Jewels.
She made me a fondant stamp with my logo on it! I’m planning to make mini cupcakes to bring to the Lucketts Antique Market in May to give out to my readers.
Such a great idea! Wouldn’t this be awesome for a wedding, anniversary or shower?
She also made me a self-inking stamp with my logo and web address. I am going to use this so much for my weather-resistant tags and other marketing materials.
She also offers lots of cute designs that are customizable, like this book stamp. We’ll be doing a giveaway in the future, so just keep an eye out for that.
Thanks so much for these awesome goodies, Cat! If you can’t wait for the giveaway, you can place your order at Baby Jewels.
Now for the event that brought me to tears. Anyone who’s gone through any renovation knows that moment. The moment where the 18th thing goes wrong and you just can’t hold it in any more.
The tile guys showed up early this morning and I was excited. The tile was going to be out of my office and on the bathroom floor this morning. A couple hours in and our friend Mike, who’s doing the tile, walks into my kitchen. “Uh…Marian…we….uh….well, we have….a glitch.” So, we walked into my bathroom where he showed me the “glitch.”
If you’re an observant person, you will notice that the tile on the right is very grey and the tile on the left is more white. Yeah…that’s not going to fly. We had 25 grey tiles and 10 white ones.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
They had to pull it up.
So, I had a cry. I was a bit of a pain to be around. I got some great words of wisdom and encouragement from my friend, Barb. And at the end of the day, it’s just tile. Just a floor in my half bathroom and we’ll get it sorted out.
Just know if you send me an e-mail asking how things are coming along with my bathroom, you are driving me to consume massive amounts of chocolate.

WTH!?!?!?!? When I first looked at the pic, I thought one was just dirtier from sitting among the destruction for weeks. What a freaking disaster! Im so sorry! 🙁 I sure hope they get you 25 white tiles to replace your grey ones… and FAST!
oh! AND yay for more paint colors!!!!! headed to baby jewels now too…
Ugh, what a pain. Hope it all comes together soon!
Oh Marian, sometimes you just gotta cry! Lol. Hang in there my friend, things will get better.
Kim:)
Ooooh, I am so sorry. I have totally been there. When we were building our house in TN. We were suppose to move in before Thanksgiving…we finally moved in the day before Valentine's day. Construction…a blessing and a curse isn't it? One thing I do know, when it is finally done it will be beautiful and you will totally enjoy it.
The stamps are adorable – loving the one for fondant. So unique. Hopefully your bath floor will sort itself out quickly. That is a bummer – but you will get there.
Sorry, Marian! Hang in there. I just completed a bathroom remodel, and there were definitely some tears along the way. If you want to feel less alone, you can read about my tile crisis at http://sweetchaoshome.blogspot.com/2011/01/floor-tile-saga.html
Tomorrow's a new day, and it will all work out:)
Awwww MAN that stinks about your tile! You'd think by now that we all would just factor in these sorts of "glitches", since they ALWAYS happen. Always. Hang in there – at the end of the day, it is just tile. Very pretty tile though. Both the white and the grey are stunning.
Loving the stamp on the cupcakes too. When all else fails – I eat cupcakes. (Or brownies. Or chocolate chips straight out of the bag…)
LOve the Baby Jewels pieces! Way cool!
SO sorry ab the flooring…:(
We just recently finished our kitchen remodel and I know how you're feeling. I shed a tear or two along the way myself. Going through a remodel can be stressful and I found I just needed to allow myself a meltdown once in awhile and take an extra long walk with the dog. It all will be so woth it in the end and your bathroom will be gorgeous! Hang in there, Marian!
Oh Marian, I feel your pain. The Fairfield House is over 130 years old and each project is opening Pandora's box.
Keep your chin up and remember how much has gone RIGHT in your world lately!
Your Friend,
Deborah
Marian, over this last month I've had a washer, dryer, and dishwasher go out. Then last night our fridge went out. Every time I've thought of going bezerk, which I have wanted to do, God has reminded me of the people in Japan, losing everything, so it all needed perspective. You were blessed to have a good friend to be there.
I know your bath will be perfection when it's done. I'm so excited to see all that you're doing at Luckett's. We all look at you in awe and amazement!!
much love,
Debra
Love that fondant stamp – what beautiful results! I <3 custom stamps - yours are adorable! I'm sorry about the remodel woes - hang in there, girl!
Hmmmmm…Now might be a good time to use that
spa gift card!
Our kitchen move was to take 4 months. Ya,
took more like 9. I'm feeling your pain.
Oh NOOOOO!!!! That's horrible 🙁 It's a Alice In Wonderland moment, I'd be painting those tiles white!!!
Gotta get me some of that chalk paint! (and those fondant stampers?? sooo wonderful!)
Marian, as you are always encouraging us to "Move Mountains in Your Home", sometime we have to go through a few valleys first. We are remodeling our home that is almost 100 years old, and through the years, we have gone through lots of valleys of unplanned complications. It always gets worked out eventually. I love the idea of cupcakes for your customers with your own personal stamp on them! Terry
Renovations never go smoothly. Its like a reno curse LOL. I don't blame you for being frustrated. Soon you'll have a gorgeous bathroom and all of the mess and aggravation will be a distant memory. Hang in there and back away from the chocolate LOL.
Thank you so much for sharing that with us. I've been having exactly one of those weeks, where the 18th, 19th and 20th things have gone wrong, and I'm having to use up all of my energy just to stop myself from huddling up in the corner in the foetal position, rocking.
Although I know others go through exactly the same thing, it's so very nice to hear it once in a while, and feel the empathy across the blogosphere.
Hang in there. This too will pass.

I hate for you to eat alone… I'll sacrifice and grab a few chocolates myself.
I know the feeling of "Finally!". Then not so much. It will get done!!
Ok, so no asking about the bathroom from me… although if you want I can send you Swiss chocolates (I live near the Lindt factory!)
Thanks for the great link, love the stamps!
Maureen x
(and know that you are inspiring so many people xx)
Then I won't ask!!! And I totally understand how you feel!
I am at a stand still in the master bedroom. Sigh!!
Where did you put that chocolate????
Hugs
SueAnn
I've heard of that happening before and the tile was purchased online with no way of returning it. They had to do some cut tiles and paste tiles to get them evenly dispersed. So sorry!!!
After owning 7 homes since 1988, I can TOTALLY RELATE to your day yesterday. Countless…..I am telling you countless times I have faced those types of issues!
I am staring down the face of a total re-do of our master bath and it is taking me a long time to 'pull the trigger' to get going….mainly because I KNOW the nightmares that I will have to endure.
Plus, the well-meaning friends who downgrade your feelings of frustration with comments like, "Well, at least you are blessed enough to have a bathroom and the money to fix it up nice." (The worst, the guilt, lol) Anyway, hopefully replacing the tiles won't be an issue and you can get right back to it.
I gutted a kitchen once and the contractor told me that he had to be out in a month to start a bigger job. Well…..four months later, I was still making dinner in the microwave set up in our bathroom and cleaning and drying dishes in the shower. Oh, the memories!
Hang in there! Lesley

Oh Marian, I'm sorry about the tile. I know you've been waiting patiently to get your new bathroom done.
It will be so much sweeter and mean so much more to you when it's done. You'll recall this mis-hap with laughter.

The day my kitchen cabinets were delivered we were in a hurricane panic and they didn't want to be responsible for them in the warehouse. We were hit, no power for days and then we had to be back at work. My August kitchen didn't have a stove until the day before Thanksgiving thanks to 3 storms. I didn't cry the first month but I know when we opened those boxes and 3 of the cabinets had the wrong doors I did. But my kids didn't seem to mind, school went on, scout meetings had to be led, and so our life moved forward until we could finish cleanup and get back to the kitchen mode. Just remember when you see pictures of updated homes that there are a lot of tears in those grout lines…
First off, I LOVE LOVE LOVE your stamps…beautiful work! Thanks for the introductions, I shall visit today. Secondly, aaawwwww, poor thing! I do understand your frustration. I'm dreading/loving our kitchen remodel. We are tearing down every sheet of drywall and pulling up the floor. I'm a bit scared as to what we'll find. So I send you joy….it's just tile. You'll get it sorted out.
Oh no, how frustrating! It'll get sorted out soon, and it will look fabulous!!! But chocolate certainly helps while you are waiting.
Thanks for the link to Baby Jewels. What a sweet shop!
I was just wondering about your bathroom remodel. (I almost sent you an email!) It will come together in the end, hang in there. Don't worry about the chocolate, the stress is probably burning the calories as you eat it :). Long distance hugs! ~Kim
Call a friend to share your chocolate, you'll both feel better that way. You won't feel so guilty for consuming the chocolate yourself, your friend will feel she sacrificed to help you so she won't feel guilty either. Ain't it great that we can do that for each other? Tell you what, I have a Cadburry Cream Egg hiding out just waiting for me, after lunch, I'll eat him, then you can eat you chocolate, we'll just tell each other we're helping each other so we'll feel better. Hope the rest of your week goes much better, and is happier! Yay on the new chalk paints! I know you'll have fun with those! Tomorrow I"ll be doing my post on my trip to Lucketts with picture of some of your stuff too!
That stinks about the tile! I've never renovated a home, but when working with contractors for the build out of our business we had disaster after disaster so I know the frustration you're feeling! At least you have super cute stamps to focus on instead! Those are adorable!! 🙂
Just keeping thinking how beautiful it will be when it is finished! It will all be worth it. Love the rubber stamps!
Well, that sucks swampwater! Have a piece of chocolate for me. 🙁 I'm sure it will work out, though.
Just try to think of all the really great things that have been happening for you instead!
Hugs….
I am going to be THAT person when I say some people in Japan do not have bathrooms, or homes, or tile of any sort…especially matching. They also have no one to complain to because their family members have perished. At the end of the day it is a small thing. Infinitesimally so.
Go for a walk with your children. See life through their eyes and your perspective will change. I promise.
xoxo

Marian, sometimes a good cry is what you need and I think you needed it. Remodeling is stressful enough without all these problems. I hope you get the tile straightened out really soon. HUGS to you in the mean time!
Oh I am a FIRM believer in the soothing power of chocolate!!! Indulge!! (Bet not too many say that to you!!). Your new sponsor is wonderful. Can't wait to order something. Have a great day (with a little chocolate!) Lori L
Love the stamps. I've got to go check it out. Sorry about the tiles, you've waited so patiently and it will all work out but sometimes a little cry is necessary to get the frustration out. Here's hoping it will work out soon and without anymore problems!
Holly
Oh, I so know what you are feeling!! We are trying to get all the things done around here with this renovation and my husband travels….well…all the time! I had a good cry yesterday when I was sawing on a bush outside and hit my thumb and had to go for stitches…even the doctor hugged me…it was just a bad day yesterday. I guess my best advice is to keep your eyes on the PRIZE. Your bathroom is going to be BEEEEAUtiful.
I was one of the ppl that asked about your bathroom this week! I've been there and this is just part of renovation & it will make you crazy Your little bathroom is going to be so pretty when it's finished. Hang in there! JenT
Chocolate is a good thing. Hope it gets resolved quickly for you.
You had a right to cry! I would have been crazy by then. But, things will work out, the room will get done, and you will have a great story to tell everyone.
Susan
I can't imagine. We have been attempting to install a new kitchen faucet. Should be what an hour or two? It's going on 3 days. It leaks where it meets the sink and then the insta hot line when kaput!
Hang in there and keep your eyes on the prize.
You inspired me. I bought a dresser on CL and plan to paint it ala you – I hope I can. This will be the first time I have put paint over wood (gulp) but let me repeat – you inspired me.
Have a great end to your day….
Ahhhh so sorry sweetie 🙁
Need any help? Eating the chocolate I mean? lol
It'll all come together, but in the meantime,
thinking of you and totally understand xo
Hugs,
Deborah xoxo
I almost feel like I should ask just so you have an excuse to eat a piece of chocolate. As a person who currently has about 2,000 of a 2,400sqft house under construction I totally feel your pain! Hang in there, I have no doubts it'll be gorgeous and you're inspiring those of us who still have a long long long way to go so THANKS
ahhhh…I feel your pain my friend! We're in the middle of a kitchen/great room/laundry room re-do as I type this. I even shed a tear at the Home Depot last night over laundry room tile. Haha! Hang in there girl!
Enjoy the rest of your week,
Kathleen
THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.
seriously. you cry if you need to cuz i get it.
i'm glad you shared this since we're getting close to laying our own marble mosaic in a downstairs bath, and this scenario will perhaps save us a headache.
i'm sending my sunshine, Mustard. and i'm a sunshine warrior so get ready!
michele
Sorry for the bad day! Grrr….
On a happy note, I think you are absolutely lovely. I love your blog, your gorgeous furniture pieces, your darling store, and your amazing skills! I want to run out (to another state apparently) and buy chalk paint. I suddenly want to travel across the country so I can visit your store. But for now I will drool online over all the great pieces you sell and be jealous of all those you are lucky enough to live by you! May today be better than yesterday!!
I am so sorry you had a mini-meltdown! I know you have lots on your plate right now but maybe an uninterupted day with the family and a nap with your toddlers is in order. I really enjoy your blog and projects, but you need to take care of yourself.
I know that's gotta be really discouraging when you were hoping to get it all done that day. It's all gonna work out though…and before you know it you'll be showing us pics of your newly revealed bathroom renovation! Keep your chin up!
P.S. There's nothing wrong with massive amounts of chocolate. 😉
-Gail
Miss Mustard Seed, I am LOL at myself because when I first glanced at your unfinished bathroom I thought to myself "Isn't she lucky, she has a dedicated space where she paints and upholsters her furniture" For a second there I was green with envy.
i think chocolate is medicine for the soul ;). there are always gliches with a reno. could you frame in the white tiles with black tiles to look like a rug or use them in an area not so obvious?
the stamps are adorable and the cupcake idea is too cute 😉
PS. Now go have some more chocolate!
Ooo, I love those stamps. At least you had a happy in your day.
I know the pain of the remodel and the tile mix up. We had a HUGE one. My kids were 6, and twins 2. My husband was working insane hours and not home much. We had just moved into our new home, and were remodeling stuff we didn't want to pay the builder for. I had searched for months for the perfect backsplash tile. I had my heart set on hand thrown white subway tiles. They were gorgeous. Well……Three times the tile company sent out mixed up boxes. Three times my contractor would show up, (who was a sweet man and friend too), and open the box, and Surprise! They messed up again. Three times I had arranged for us all to be out of the way. It was a major pain and the backsplash was months overdue. The happy ending to the story was that the Tile company ended up giving us 40% off the cost of the tile, which was pretty expensive, so it eased the pain. It was absolutely worth it though. We have been in our home for almost 8 years. I look at the tile a zillion times a day. I still love it, love it, love it, like the day I first found it. You will feel the same about your tile in your bathroom. Funny how something like tile can make you so happy. I know you appreciate the little things that are beautiful. And for now, it is tile. And hopefully will be for many years to come. Hang in there, it will be gorgeous when it is done. And well worth the wait. -K
Will comming over here and seeing my half of a wall of wallpaper that is hung upside down make you feel any better?… of so consider yourself invited 🙂
Maddie- the D.A.
Well that's a big huge bummer. I hope the tile company will somehow make it right for you.
I have a favorite quote for this type of situation. It comes from Emily Henderson of Secrets From A Stylist. She won the last season of HGTV's Design Star. Her assistant broke a beautiful, antique sconce. Emily's response, "It's just a sconce, not a baby," I loved that. My daughter and I say it every time we need to remember what's REALLY important.
Ooooh, I am so sorry Marian, especially when I know how badly you want this step finished. Something always goes wrong in big projects like these, but I bet it will make you love it even more when it's FINISHED!! hugs to you~
