This post is a this’n’that kind of post. As usual, I have a lot of things going on at one time. My latest round of HGTV.com projects were just published. I came up with three projects that kids can do for mother’s day…
(My husband says the silhouette of my son on the right looks like ET. I’d say something sarcastic in my defense, but it kinda does!)
I know most of you are moms, so you don’t want to make crafts for yourself on your special day, but you can send a link along to your hubby to give him a hint. I love how the silhouettes turned out and hung them in our home office. Even ET.
I bet when you saw the word “tile” in the title of this post, you knew I was either…
A. Really excited because my tile was finally affixed to my bathroom floor.
OR
B. I was in the fetal position, rocking, eating chocolate and crying softly to myself.
Thankfully, the answer is A.
Can you hear the choir of angels? It’s glorious and well worth the wait and the tears and the chocolate eating.
They’re going to grout it tomorrow and we’ll be able to make some more progress.
I’m also working on my newest dresser for Lucketts today. I’ve been stalling on it, because it had an attached mirror. Dressers with mirrors are pretty, but they don’t sell as well as ones without mirrors. I guess they’re more versitile. Normally I can just remove the mirror, but on this dresser, there would be a one-inch gap on the back of the top without the mirror harp in place.
I was going to have my husband make a decorative back piece for it, but then I realized I could just modify the harp to make it work.
I started off by removing all of the screws that held the bottom together and to the dresser.
I then pryed the back piece off. It had been glued down, so it took a little bit of muscle.
There was one last screw under the piece I pryed up, so I removed that.
Unfortunately, the upright pieces were glued to the base and they weren’t going to budge. I called on my husband to cut them off using his table saw.
He had to be a little creative during this part, but he was able to get it detached. It goes without saying that you should use extreme caution when working with power tools…especially saws and other sharp objects. Just be smart and wear safety gear.
I then attached the base of the harp back onto the dresser, now mirror-free.
(Sorry these pictures aren’t the greatest. They’re taken in my workshop and I was too hurried to get my tripod.)
I’m painting the dresser in one of the new colors introduced by Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint, Aubusson Blue. It’s a gorgeous color. Sort of a mix between cornflower and teal (although it looks more teal in this picture.) It’s really pretty.
I’ll reveal the dresser in a few days.
One last thing, since this post is a little random anyway…my good friend Karen, aka The Graphics Fairy, just launched two new sites!

These sites showcase the wonderful craft and DIY/Home Decor projects people make using her FREE graphics. If you’ve made projects using her graphics, make sure you submit them to be featured.

Lovely greetings…

Happy for you with the tile in the bathroom. I just had the floors in our master replaced and I too had a matching issue. Ugg. So frustrating. But mine are done and grouted! Yeah! I posted a pic over the weekend on my blog. Now I just have to get the rest of the bath done! Yikes!
et? lol.
love that bath floor.
I LURVE that tile. It's my dream tile. If there is such a thing. I'm pretty sure there is.
I am VERY excited to see how you are going to pimp your bathroom.
Good luck!
And chocolate in any quantity, especially during a remodel, is totally acceptable.
The tile looks great!! I do not have any chalk paint yet, but I have been using a bear paint in a turquiose color, and have been selling my things like crazy!! Did I mention turquoise is one of my favorite colors….Cant wait to see the dresser!!!
The tile looks gorgeous!!!! I'm glad it all worked out! Thanks for the shout out, about my new sites!
Hope to see you soon, if it ever stops raining that would help!
Bathroom floor done = happy! I'm so glad and I know you're thrilled beyond measure to have this done. It looks beautiful!
Thanks for sharing your process. I am one of the least technical/mechanical folks ever. I put a fan together this afternoon…after many attempts. The directions are not really clear and it's my first large fan to 'work' on…I do have a couple of extra pieces. 🙂
Pat
P.S. Love the glitter letters on the banner too!
Love the new bathroom floor! You might have mentioned this but where did you purchase the tile? And the new color of chalk paint is to die for! Cannot wait to see the dresser. I'm patiently waiting on my order of AS chalk paint to come in.
hip hip hurray the tile is in dancing around in your behalf ;). finally 😉 and how absolutely gorgeous!!!! ET how funny
Can't wait for the finish…know it will be lovely!
Loretta's Giveaway
That's not ET – that is one of my precious grandsons. Floor looks awesome – I can see the vision. Miss you all and can't wait to see you. MMS's MOM
Oh my word… that floor is amazing! Your home is going to be absolutely stunning when all is said and done! You certainly have great style, friend.
Donna
I love the silhouettes! I don't see ET. =) And the candles are so precious. I'm going to see if my boys want to make some for grandma!
Jeanine
Amazing tile. So glad you didn't have to let it all out with a good cry. I'm giddy waiting to see what you do next.
LOL I actually DID hear the angel chorus!! …then I scrolled down to read your comment. Too funny.
So glad the tile is finally DOWN. 😀 Yay!
Yep. Jealous of the tile. It is beautiful! Those kid art candle holders are precious (it all is).
I love the floor, is that pink tile I see? I can't wait to see the finished product, as our master bath has pink tile from the 60's, in great condition:)
Yay, yay, and yay for your tile. See, totally worth the wait, and the chocolate, which is always a good thing anyhow.
Mother's Day crafts were too cute. My husband wouldn't have a clue where to begin, but my youngest could orchestrate the whole thing and follow the directions. Maybe I will just send her the link…..
Can't wait to see the dresser, that color looks gorgeous.
OMG, that tile floor is so lovely, I just want to lay down on it and pet it! You must be so happy it is finally in place.
Cannot wait to see the dresser reveal, I know it's going to be gorgeous like everything else you do. Checked out the chalk paint, and OMG is it expensive! But, it's versatile, and creates such a gorgeous finish. I have a few things I want to try it on; when I get my tax refund, I shall purchase myself a couple quarts, some wax, and some brushes.
Best,
Kimberly
Hi, again!
A. You are hysterical. ET, fetal position, chocolate…you make me giggle. I can totally relate.
B. Your floor looks AMAZING. Is it marble, travertine, or…?
C. Is that chalk paint color like an early robins egg blue? I am on the hunt for the 'perfect' repro robins egg blue paint for friends of mine who have a furniture biz. They use antique lumber and create beautiful painted primitive style furniture. I'd love to post pics someday soon!
Thanks!
Mary
What a way to fix the dresser!! Hurray for you bathroom progress!!! I'm FINALLY getting my kitchen cupboards tomorrow after almost 3 months of waiting…but they made one wrong! –AHHHH, pass the chocolate, please!!! I had to laugh at the "ET". My husband is a bit too honest like that; just told me a project I worked on today was wrong. No, I didn't hit him with it; I sucked up my tears and redid it, and am very glad now that I did.
Have fun with the chalk paint…I'm so envious!! 🙂
Gorgeous tile!!!
I can't wait to see your newest dresser.
Just have to tell you I love your blog!! You have given me the incentive to get back into decorative painting which I had stopped doing several years ago.
Congratulations on your floor installation. I know how it feels to reach milestones in a project. We have been renovating our main bath since the fall–right down down to the sheetrock. It has been a long time( with some health bumps in the road)but this past weekend we started using the new tub/shower and I felt like I was in a gorgeous hotel bathroom. I gave us the added incentive to get the final phase completed.
Good luck with the rest of your project– it will be so worth it!
I had too much anxiety reading your blog today. HAHA. You have given me way too many inspiring ideas! Now I have to find the time. Your silhouette display is simple, but charming. Makes me want to dig mine out. Thanks for sharing.
Let me start by saying, I love your blog. I am not trying to be harsh or negative, but that picture of your husband using the table saw was very disturbing. I realise that the blade is not spinning, but the position of his hands is frightening! You added alittle disclaimer about safety gear, but I do not see a blade guard or, more importantly, a push stick. I am a carpenter by trade and have used a table saw many, many, times and I would never place my hands that close to the blade. Only get as close as you are prepared to lose.
i just ordered my chalk paint and wax the other day, i can't wait to get it and tonight my hubby and i are off to a shop in the city to pick up a dresser to paint!! love your projects! susan
Michelle,
Yes, I totally appreciate your concern. My husband was lining up the blade when that picture was taken, it was not running at that point.
Where did you get the drapes/the fabric for the drapes (the blue and white ones?)
i can hear the choir!! tile looks stunning, marian, really.
that aubusson on the dresser is going to be killer. yer such a tease tho!
michele
awesome color! 🙂
My step-BIL works at a paint store….I so need to start checking them out more, but they're an hour away. I am dying to see the finished dresser & I am so oooohing & aaaaahing over your tile floor so far. We have so much tile that needs replaced, it's just not funny. It sure is great to have handy hubbies with tools~& knowledge;-)
That turquoise paint.. ahhhh…. sigh…. would you call it a Tiffany Box blue?
Marian, you have more irons in the fire than anyone I know! You are a multi-tasking genius. I'm about to order some of that chalk paint to try this summer. I never would have heard of it if it weren't for you!
