I have had a great time trying on pieces from Walmart to share with you over the past few months. As I’ve shared before, it’s outside of my comfort zone. I would never claim that fashion is my forté, but that’s one reason why I say yes to these opportunities. I’m a sweats and hoodie kind of girl, but I do need to have nice clothes to wear to church, out to dinner, for business meetings, events, etc., so it’s nice to play around with some options. I have been so impressed with the quality and price of the pieces I’ve ordered and tried on from Walmart. Jackets that are lined and tailored, sweaters made of 100% cotton, jeans that are made from thick and soft denim (instead of thin and scratchy like some jeans), pieces with embroidery, ruching, pockets, and thoughtful details. Some clothes from other sellers can be much more expensive and not even offer that level of quality.
I also like how easy it is to make returns as a Walmart+ member. Not every piece fits or flatters and I can have any returns picked up at my house for free. It’s makes it low-risk to order a few things, try them on at home with pieces I already have, and return what doesn’t work. (As a side note, I always try things on with the same respect I would in a store’s dressing room.)

One more thing before we get to the clothes. A few people asked what “midsize” refers to. It is women who wear US sizes 10-16 and there are a lot of us! I have fit in that size range pretty much my entire adult life with a few exceptions when I was at my skinniest or heaviest or if brand sizing was really off. We all know size twos are well represented and we’ve seen more plus-size models in recent years, but it’s hard to find a model in that middle range. Social media has been filling that gap with midsized women showing how clothes look on their bodies. I wear a 12 -16 depending on the brand, the piece of clothing, and the fit.
So, here are some of the new pieces I tried on along with a review of the quality, size, and fit.

Levis Pull-on Skinny Jeans (16) | White Boxy Cotton Tunic (XL) | Scoop One-Button Blazer (L) | Knit Ballet Flats (9)
I already own the boxy cotton tunic in the blue stripe fabric and I love the related fit, so I decided to get it in white. I like a classic button-down to dress up a pair of jeans. I did try it tucked and untucked. I think tucking is more flattering but untucked is more comfortable. Oh, the battle! I love these knit flats and have them in navy and beige and I wear them often to church or when I’m out running errands.
The blazer was so impressive for $38! It’s fully lined and has a nice structure to it. I like wearing hoodies, but blazers are such a great way to dress up an outfit for a professional occasion, church, etc. I have definitely worn a blazer and button-up for a Zoom meeting while donning sweats out of view!

Here is the same blazer with the navy ballet flats and Levis Pull-on Shaping Jeans (16.)

Levis Pull-on Shaping Jeans | White ruffle-neck shirt (XL) | Free Assembly Sweater (XL) | Knit Ballet Flats
Here are the shaping jeans with a shirt and sweater I bought from Walmart a few weeks ago.

Levis Pull-on Skinny Jeans | White Boxy Cotton Tunic | Chelsea rain boots (9) | Time & Tru Trench (L)
I loved this trench and the Chelsea rain boots. The trench is flattering and a great weight for fall and spring. I like that it can be an outer layer or an intentional part of an outfit that you wear inside and out. It’s also lined, has a tie belt, and cute details like buckets on the cuffs. The rain boots are comfortable and have a lining so they are a little more substantial that plain rubber boots. I have some more expensive gardening boots and I wish I found these first! They are absolutely comparable at a fraction of the price. Now, they just need to make them in green and blue.

I tried them on with some leggings I already had, too, just to see how it looked.

Levis Pull-on Skinny Jeans | White Boxy Cotton Tunic | Time & Tru Cardigan (XL) | Knit Ballet Flats (9)
This navy cardigan has cute knit details and is a nice weight, but I think it would work better on someone with a shorter waist. It didn’t hit me at the most flattering place, which is a bummer because I liked it! It does look better open, but I like to be able to wear a cardigan open or buttoned.

Levis Pull-on Skinny Jeans | Scoop V-Neck Sweater | Adjustable Quilted Rain Boots
These quilted rain boots are also a winner. They are comfortable, cute, and the buckle in the back is adjustable to accommodate different calf-widths. The sweater…well, I loved the color and feel, but the fit wasn’t right for me. It was pulling around my hips and too big up top. I think it would look great on a different body shape, though. We all have to work with what we’ve got!

Free Assembly Long Sleeve Zip Dress (XL)
I tried on this dress, that feels like a big sweatshirt, with an ancient pair of boots and leggings. I actually got the jeggings from Walmart about 15 years ago and still wear them! I didn’t expect to like this dress as much as I did, but it’s comfortable, cute, and a way to feel like you’re wearing a sweatshirt and leggings while you’re actually wearing a dress and looking a little more put-together.

Sadly, this burnt-sienna-colored cotton sweater is no longer available from Walmart, but it’s a favorite (because it goes so well with blue.) I tried it on with the dress just to show how it could be layered. The only downside is it doesn’t have pockets and I miss them.

I feel like everything I tried on was true to size, but since I’ve been losing weight, I am buying things a little big and then realizing I should size down. I’m not sure if it’s actually the wrong size or meant to be oversized, though!

You look, and I am sure feel, absolutely amazing.
You are so cute and quite brave too! I loved the fashion show and am now thinking of getting a new item or two to spruce up my wardrobe. Thanks!
After all of your hard work scraping glue off of the basement floor, some cute new clothes are definitely a great reward!
You look great! And it’s wonderful to see clothes on someone older than 26.
Aww. What a fun fashion show. You make a darling model!
You picked some stunning combinations of attire, Marian. You rocked it all.
Marian,
these are great posts. The way you model these garments, explaining what you are buying them for and using your own items; i.e. your jeggings and boots (love the boot color and style). Rust is one of my personal favorite colors; I wear it with brown and olive and cream. Think fall and all the colors, that’s my palette.
All of the clothes are beautiful! Really nice basics from Walmart. Thanks for sharing!
This inspires me to jazz up my fall wardrobe a bit! Love the ancient boots, btw.
