Feed Sack Pillows

First of all, the winner of the Well of Creations camera bag giveaway is Teresa!  Congrats!  I do not have an e-mail for you, so please send me an e-mail to claim your prize.
Well, I have been a busy girl, so I’ve been a little quiet on my blog the past couple of days.  You lovely ladies have not been quiet, though!  Holy Cow!  I can’t believe how popular “Miss Mustard Seed in a Box” is.  I wish I had a few hundred to give away.  It’s been a real encouragement for me to read all of your comments and compliments.  Thanks so much for making my blog what it is today.
We had some friends from our church over for lunch today, so that kept me away and yesterday one of our youth girls came over for some help with making a dress.  Now, I do not make clothes, so this was definitely the blind leading the blind.  The end result?  We pinned and cut and I complained about how confusing the pattern directions were and now she needs to go buy all new fabric, because I messed it up.  I didn’t “fold” the fabric we were supposed to fold and we ended up with nowhere near enough pieces to make a dress.  All of you women who sew clothing…I tip my hat.
You can stop laughing at me now.
So, I sewed something I was good at to make me feel better about myself.  I made two pillows out of my favorite feed sack, that was a recent Luckett’s purchase.
I love the brown stripes and the stamping on it.  It was a huge feed sack, so I had enough to make one large pillow and one small one.  They look perfect in our office, which I think I’m going to decorate in a brown, white and black color scheme.
I also made one to put in my booth at the upcoming Old Luckett’s Fair.  I loaded up on down pillow forms and I am going to make some more to sell.
This one is going to be hard to let go.
Those that don’t sell at Luckett’s will go up on Etsy, so keep an eye out for them!
Don’t forget to enter my 2000 follower giveaway if you haven’t already.  Good luck to all of you!

  1. Ha I guess there is at least one thing I can do, that you can't do (yet). Wow that is such a boost to my ego 🙂
Love the pillows! Wonderful sewing job.
I just posted about your giveaway. Maybe that will give you even more entries, although I think all my readers now about you already, but I thought it warranted a mention anyway.
    Have a wonderful week!

  2. All I can say is you reveal the awesome creativity of our Awesome God!!! Wow!!! Thank you for sharing…I love that pillow…so cool!!! You're just a cool daughter of the King of kings!!!

  3. you can sew slip covers…curtains and pillows and few other things and you messed the dress up….i am rolling so sorry but i just find that funny. love the pillows

  4. I must say the sewing story made me chuckle! It sounds like some of my mishaps when I first started sewing clothing. I also have to say it is amazing to find something creative that you don't do!!! I love the pillows, they are beautiful! One question, Lucketts, is it Lucketts, Virginia? Just curious, I have been to Lucketts, VA and there are several really neat antique stores that are amazing!! Plus, it is a beautiful area!! Again, love the pillows!

  5. Ha, I hate making clothes too, but enjoy quilting and sewing for our home. I made my nieces simple little outfits when they were little, but it was not fun. I much prefer needlework and home dec sewing.

Great pillows. I have yet to come across vintage feed sacks here, but I'm still looking.

  6. Yes, Melissa. It's Lucketts, VA. They have a spring antique market in May and the "old Lucketts Fair" in August. The August event is more for crafts, but they have an antique section and I'll be a vendor there.

  7. I think I'm crying Marian. I would have loved the Cincinnati one as my piece from you. Oh well, we still have burlap:) Glad you've had tons of chatter for your giveaway!

  8. You did a fantastic job on those pillows. I do have to admit though that I did laugh, I'm sorry. Cutting out a pattern is one thing I don't care to do. I love sewing things though.

  9. I can't wait to buy some pillows from you! I am in the market for a few grain sack pillows and I don't sew! I hope you have some soon! They're fabulous. I've been looking in my area for months and can't find any. I love all of the ones you have pictured.

  10. I had to laugh about sewing the dress. I am the same way…patterns are a mystery to me. Good luck on your next try!
    Love the pillows!!

  11. Good Morning!
I love your flour sack pillow! I was just at Luckett's yesterday. I took an entourage and we found some fabulous goodies!

Sunday late morning is a perfect time to go. It is not as crowded. We go to my daughters church in DC and they have evening church so we have the day to be out and about. We had a morning and afternoon of girl time! I got so many ideas too. I actually think the inspiration is better than buying things! I could not get to sleep until after 3:30 this morning, my head was so full of ideas!

I love the french, vintage, tattered-with-time look of the flour sacks and much of the treasures at Luckett's.

I didn't know about their FAIR? I need to find out when it is.
I hope to go and introduce myself to you!

I am writing a post for next week about my fieldtrip. I posted the ruffled chairs from the aqua room on facebook last night. It is an almost magical place!

Wonderful visit this morning~ Happy week to you!
    Blessings,
    Yvonne

  12. Hi Miss M!

I am with the other blogger…You can so talented with the home creations and you have such wonderful taste! And then, here you are pulling your hair out over the dress. It is funny to me because I am the same way. Years ago I was trying to make a nightgown to wear in the hospital after having my son…I must have called my grandmother 50 times because I couldn't understand "placket". I had sewn everything for my son's room, and I mean everything. But, when it came to that, I couldn't see it and it became a bunched up mess! Frustrating!

I just completed a painting a commissioned piece (just posted the pics yesterday on my blog). Now she wants a book shelf with a design of sea shells to match her wall paper and curtains. I am a self trained painter and do mostly florals….I never did shells. I hope that this doesn't end up being a frustrating situation like the dress and "placket"! We shall see! Have a wonderful week.

All the best from Cape Cod, Karen
