I worked incredibly hard today and I am incredibly tired tonight.  The day started at 6:30 am when my sons woke me up.  The entire family got ready and we headed out for a morning of yard sales.  I found some great things, which I’ll share in another post, and came home about noon.  After hanging out with the boys for a bit, our babysitter came over and the painting frenzy began.  I have lots to share, but it will all happen in another post.  Tonight, I’m going to share a desk I finished last week.
This is how it started…
I painted it in Annie Sloan’s Louis Blue with Old White on the body.  The top was stripped and refinished in a dark walnut stain and Fiddes Wax.

I chose to keep the original hardware, since it was in good condition and still worked with the painted piece.

Some light distressing prior to waxing, brought out the detail.

I brought it to my pavilion at Lucketts on Thursday.

Lots more to come…but now…sleep.

  1. The desk looks so beautiful! I just can't imagine getting as much done as you! I guess it's because you're so young and I'm so old! 🙂
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia 😉

  2. I'm addicted to your blog! I just had to login before going to bed tonight just to see what you've been up to since yesterday and of course you didn't disappoint me. The desk looks amazing I love the two colors and the wood desktop. Hopefully you will be able to sleep in tomorrow until 7am 🙂

  3. Beautiful! I'm loving the dark stain against the blue and white. Great job! Seriously thinking I need some of the Annie Sloan paint. I looked at Lowe's for the Minwax that you mentioned in your video about waxing and was unable to find it. I really would like to try the other kinds but cost is an issue. I just might have to break down and do it anyway. Love this piece!

  4. *swoon* this looks like the girly version of my man beast desk. I was just thinking earlier of how to paint mine. Thanks for making my mind up for me lol

  5. Wow!! This is a beautiful desk. Looks like I need to take a quick road trip to Luckettts!,

  6. This is so pretty..I love it. Am in awe with your choices of colors and your skill at giving these pieces a worn look. ..Love this blog, I am going to paint my big old piano and struggling with the choice of color…….

  7. I'd work there! And I love the vintage items you have perched on top of the desk. Lovely job as always.

  8. The desk turned out so beautiful. I have an old oak teacher's desk that I've been wanting to refinish. This was great inspiration 🙂

  9. It's beautiful; I just love the color! I have the matching buffet and hutch to that desk; I love the handles! I am always thinking I would love to paint my buffet and hutch, I am afraid I will change my mind after I do!

    Take care….Jodi

  10. Ahhh-mazing!!! I can't wait for the Luckett's fair and what you'll have! I was out at Luckett's last weekend and am KICKING myself for not buying one of your signs I fell in love with…next time I won't make the same mistake of leaving without it 🙂 Thanks for all the inspiration!!!

  11. Hi Marian, Boy that desk looks perfect. I was lucky to get a sample of the Louis Blue as a bonus from Patrica Seamon when I ordered my second quart of old white. I love that new color. I finished my kitchen and did it all in chalk paint. Please come check it out~(in your spare time! LOL).

  12. Love that color combination. Turned out gorgeous. What are you going to do when your boys are sports age? I mourn for the Saturdays of tag sale shopping. All in a season. Your season is in full splendor. Great work, as always!

  13. This desk is totally captivating….I want to do something similar with a dresser for my daughter's new daughter(due in August)…do you have a pink suggestion for the drawers?

  14. Beautiful! I am currently trying to refinish a table, but I'm having issues. I stained the top in Dark Walnut, but the stain didn't take. I sanded the top and then applied a wood conditioner (which soaked right in). Then I applied the stain, waited the recommened amount of time, and wiped it off. I can't even tell that I stained it. Any suggestions? katyg0521 at gmail dot com Thank you! I love your blog!

  15. Since I began reading your blog, I just cannot get enough of it and I have learned so much!! I am retiring shortly and I plan on making slipcovers and refinishing old pieces of furniture with the milk paint and selling it in the booth I have had for over two years. I love reading all of the neat things that you bring to your blog each and every day. I just wish I had a buddy that was as creative as you. Thank you for teaching "an old dog new tricks".
    Sincerely, Miss Deb

  16. I'd love the tutorial on how you did this piece:-) Do you strip the entire thing and then refinish the top and paint the bottom? Do you put a wax/poly over the entire piece?

    Just LOVE it!

  17. I've just recently come upon your blog, and I am so thrilled! Oh, your work is absolutely gorgeous!! This desk is fantastic, has it sold yet?? Looking forward to more of your work!

  18. I found your desk on pinterest and am currently working on a similar desk, but am painting the drawer fronts a soft pink to go in my daughters room. I’m just wondering, what is the colour of stain you used on top? It’s exactly what I have been imagining!! Thanks!!!
