another alarm clock jackpot, a pet jug & other finds…

Kriste and I went on a shopping trip/field trip today as planned.  It was so fun having someone along to bounce ideas off of, to point things out and to brainstorm a bit.  (Mom, you’re great to shop with, too.  Had to throw that out there.)

Anyway, we throughly combed every aisle at the craft store…filling the cart with things for seasonal projects, glitter projects, photo shoots, milk paint projects and the look book two.  We came up with some ideas that I’m pretty excited about.

We also went to a local antique mall to look mostly for photo shoot props and things to sell in the online shop and at the Chapel Market In October.  Do you remember the alarm clock jackpot I hit a few weeks ago?  We were in that exact booth today and I started turning around to point out the spot where I last scored a bunch of alarm clocks and before the words came out of my mouth, I saw that the shelf was full of clocks again.  Really?!  I started snatching some up and I pointed out ones to Kriste that I liked and she grabbed an armload as well. She even picked out a couple of clocks that will be “Kriste’s picks” in the online shop.

The last one is my favorite and I’ll probably be keeping it.  For now.

I didn’t hit the ironstone jackpot, but I did find a few nice pieces…

This footed bowl was the first thing in my cart.

It’s an oldie and definitely a keeper.

Notice anything funny in this picture?

Yeah, a pet jug.  The funny thing is, it’s actually a really nice ironstone pitcher with “our pet jug” randomly printed on it.  Some people have cats or dogs or guinea pigs.  Other people have ironstone, right?  Jeff thought it was more stupid than funny, but I think that about some movies he likes.

The thing is…if you turn it around, it’s a really pretty piece of ironstone.

You only see one side of a pitcher at a time, so that works for me!

Here are a few other things I picked up…

We plan on using these for mixing milk paint…

And I found some amazing hardware for dressers at the antique store and craft store…

You can see most of them are pretty typical for me…blue & white and glass…

…and Kriste picked out these…

…and this is a little sneak peek as to why…

Jeff, Kriste and I are shooting a video tomorrow and my dad is picking up some really great Craig’s List finds for me.  Lots of exciting things going on…

  1. Love those drawer knobs that Kriste picked! I am imagining them on that pale pink and a hint of gold somewhere. Looking forward to some eye candy!

  2. Im really picky with my blue and whites. I want them simple so i can mix them wi t h my Polish pottery and add interest to plain white and blue. I am in love love love with the whole bin of knobs!

    1. And! And! And! I got the black pendant chandelier! I couldn’t believe it didn’t sell out fast.

  3. Just a thought on the PET jug, people used to drink a canned milk that was called PET milk…..might have been around the depression or after. Maybe this jug was a way to tell the difference when both kinds of milk were served. It is a pretty piece of ironstone!

  4. Sounds like a fun day. You always seem to find the best stuff. I love the clocks. I have two and have been looking for a third to round out my collection. The sweet little one pictured first would do the job. If you are planning on selling it I would love to buy it from you? Love the pink and am looking forward to seeing what you use it on.

  5. I wanted to ask you about the piece of footed piece of ironstone that you said is an olde and definitely a keeper…what do you know about it? I have the exact piece. It belonged to my grandmother. Do you think it had a lid?

  6. “Pet” can also mean a most favorite or cherished thing. For example, “Collecting ironstone is one of Marian’s pet projects.” I once saw a pitcher like this on Etsy that said “Mother’s Pet Jug.”

  7. The little Pet jug was used on tables in restaurants for Pet evaporated milk rather than sitting the can on the table…like cream pitchers. I see these occasionally in both blue and brown. Very sweet when the logo is turned to the back.

  8. I wish I could have been with you on this trip! I have never met someone with the exact same taste in home dec as I have found in your blog! Such beauty! Thank you!

    1. That is my favorite of all the finds – I agree! Those knobs hit my “gotta have” spot and not much does that to me….

  9. How fun to have a new shopping buddy. I think I am going to need that flow blue bowl and the last clock, when you are ready to give it up someday, that is!

  10. oh my gosh. I found that exact piece of fabric too. I cut it in half then sewed them up to make pretty pillow cases. Love how long they are and how they hang off the side of the bed just a little.

  11. Does this mean you will be having a “pink” milk paint project ????? My daughter wants a pink headboard and this would be perfect !!

  12. Wondering if your favorite alarm clock says, New Haven on it? Connecticut used to be an important place for clockware. Funny, that clock was the one that was my favorite, just like you, and if it is New Haven, the city where I was born!
Love your finds, the knobs are fantastic

  13. Marion,
Trying to find the 2 posts you did on your trip to the Poconos.
We live in Lancaster and are thinking about a trip to the Poconos and would like to
catch the names of the place where you stayed and shopped.
    Thanks so much.

  14. Ooo, La, La! That soft, new pink is simply divine, Dahlings ~ it’s so nice to shop and work with someone who has similar taste, yet a slightly different eye than one’s own. Yay, Kriste! We MMS fangirls can’t wait to see what’s ahead … XoXo

  15. I love the iron turquoise clock. Kriste, love the knobs you selected. They have the Antro look!!

  16. Shopping for Fun and Profit. A title for a new book? You’re my kind of girl! Keep up the good work!

  17. Wonderful post~~~~Love what you girls found! The footed bowl is beautiful. I love the jar with the zinc lid~~~have never seen one like it before. Can’t wait for whatever pink loveliness is coming up. It’s all good!

  18. Though I always enjoy looking through your finds, today I was transported back in time. There’s a Christmas I’ll always remember because it encapsulates the excitement/anticipation of childhood to me. That Christmas Eve, I slept on the floor of my older sister’s room on her pink shag carpet. Mom and Dad had told us we couldn’t come wake them up until 6 or 6:30 a.m. I can’t remember what time I woke up, all I know is I had to wait, staring at the clock for what seemed like an eternity before it was time to wake up our folks. The memory of that Christmas morning and that clock and the pink shag carpet is so vivid. The clock had a distinctly square face and I think it had some sort of illuminated dial, maybe when you pushed a button on the back?–I’m almost positive it was identical to the one you brought home in your finds that looks like it says Gilbert on it.
Thank you so much sharing your treasures: It was fun remembering!

  19. Okay, I’m in love with about half of those alarm clocks…especially the turquoise one. I also think that one of the reasons there are so many problems in the world is that girls and guys have such a different sense of humor. 🙂 I also need to start going to whatever craft store that you go to, and I cannot wait to see the finished pink/gold project.

  20. I felt like I got to get out and go along and see what is out there and that someone had found all those clocks –twice–amazed me!
I’ve found your posts peaceful, cliffhanger endings…so I come back to read more!! Each day is something new!

  21. Any chance you can divulge name of/where that antique mall is? Next time we’re in Gettysburg (probably at Thanksgiving) it definitely is a place I’m going to want to drag the family to and check out!!

  22. How funny! I’ve had that same footed ironstone bowl for about 10 years. I use mine to keep bananas in. I love it. You got some beautiful things.

  23. Beautiful china! I also picked up a piece marked ‘semi porcelain’ yesterday. Is that Ironstone then? Mine has got brown splotches all over the handles so I thought perhaps it was…

  24. Oooh!!! I love and need the pintuck lace fabric! I’m dying to know more about this!!!
