It’s hard for me to go to an antique market and not buy anything. At the Lucketts Antique Market a couple of weeks ago, I hadn’t bought anything at the end of day one. I was too busy at my space to run around and shop. The Sunday of the sale was more relaxed, plus I didn’t have much left to sell, so I sauntered around and shopped.
A lot of things caught my eye, but here is what I bought…
A wooden cog…
…an alarm clock…
…a linen tablecloth with an embroidered monogram…
…a pair of European tea towels and a grain sack…
(After I took this picture, I realized the monograms spell “BIKE.” What are the odds?)
…and a few springs. I’m not sure what I’ll do with these, but I thought it would be a challenge to come up with something creative.
I also bought a couple of wire baskets and a small ironstone pitcher. It’s fun that I can splurge a little on myself every now and then.
Tomorrow I’m bringing some new things to my space in Lucketts and picking up some pieces from my Virginia “picker.” I received a lot of comments from people interested in buying these benches when I posted about them in January…
I bought them for the wedding and now they have served their purpose, they are headed to Lucketts for sale.
I’ll also hit some shops on the way down. Now that schools are out in this area, I have baby sitters lined up and lots of furniture to work on, so I should have some makeovers to share this week.
And I WILL finally get my massage!!

I have a couple of the springs (that I kindly got from Suzanne of Meridian Road). After I got them I came across a magazine that used them to hold a cone of peanuts.
I thought of using them to hold ice cream cones at the boys' parties, if I don't find something permanent to use them for.
I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
Great finds!! I LOVE the springs…I use them on my porch and turn glass insulators upside down and up candles in them:-)
Cool stuff, love the benches! Can't wait for the make overs! And you deserve a big splurge!

I love the springs, my initial thought is that they would be great for displaying Easter eggs! 🙂
Love the layered paint on your cog it has such great texture. The benches are very appealing and I know they won't last long once the sales floor. Blogger won't let me post under my name so for now I am anonymous. Stella by Starlight
after all of your work over the past few weeks, i am thrilled to see that you treated yourself to some cute things. i adore the clock. i am sure it will look completely at home wherever you place it.
by the way, i bought two very large canvas drop-cloths today. i plan to make them into slip cover style tablecloths for my upcoming shows next weekend and later. thank you for all the clever, yet clear instructions… i think it will look really swell.
best, wendy
You may have to check in with Funky Junk Donna for some ideas on what to do with those spring! I know I would! Glad you got to shop for some treasures for yourself!
Wow, you always find the best items. Those chairs you bought from yesterday's post are awesome. I can picture how you're going to transform them by following your blog. The cogs are interesting and I'm curious as to what you will do with them.
Warm Regards,

Great finds! That cog looks like something Donna at FJI might like! Love the linens, I have a soft spot for things like that.
You deserve some pampering, so I am hoping you get your massage and some rest soon!
Best,
Kimberly
oh nice benches i maybe interested in them…….
Super fun stuff! 🙂 Do you ship? LOL I want those benches!!!
The springs would be cool candle holders. The long kind.
Oh my goodness – I love visiting your blog bc it reminds me of home. I used to live in Sterling – not too far from Lucketts and my Mom, Grandma and Aunt used to drag me out there when I was a teen. I hated it then – antiquing – BORING – but oh how I wish I would have known what I know now! Lucketts is like a gold mine for wonderful and beautiful things! I hope to make it back there one day. Until then, I'll just drool over all of your lucky finds. 🙂

I have a friend who has springs, she takes silk flowers and wraps them with burlap, and then sticks them in the springs as a unique flower arrangement, I love them! Great finds!!
Great finds; you have a good eye!!
The cog reminded me of Donna, too! She must be rubbing off on you. 🙂 I think those springs would make really great cake plate stands. Just find some neat old plates and glue them {a glass epoxy works best} to one end of the spring. I'm excited to see what you come up with!

You're an inspiration! Getting one little project done in a month is about all that happens in my life right now. Good for you. Don't you wish you had a standing massage appt?
The cog…..what a gorgeous and character-full lovely old piece. On its own, it's a real standout.
Luckett's sounds addictive1

Since your last name doesn't start with "G" I think you should sell me the napkin with MG…my initials!! Just kidding (well not really)
I love all the great ideas for the springs. I instantly imagined them painted a bright turquoise or orange and piled with others into a huge hurricane vase or something. They would be so unusual.
I have a "cupcake holder", tiered" made out of springs. I actually use it for cones because the way that they wired it, cupcakes won't fit in the holes, springs are sticking out into the holes. If I were to criss/cross with twine it would work and look cute. But I will say that my cones look darling!!!
I was intrigued with your new camera. Any chance of a tutorial or more comment on why you chose the camera you did. I love the quality of your photos!
Your coiled springs would be great holders for old photographs.
I'm booking a massage for next week!! Can't wait! Those benches are awesome!
http://www.purpleismysignaturecolor@blogspot.com I hope you don't mind me writing down my little and I mean little blog, I just started it….anyway I have a photo on it of how I used old springs as candleholders and flower vases. Sooooo cute. Love your stuff, if I ever get computer savvy enough I would love to send some of my furniture photos. thank you, Sue

Oh, Miss M! That alarm clock is EXACTLY like the one my grandmother had on her nightstand for her entire life…well, at least as long as I knew her! I loved the sound of it ticking whenever we spent the night at her house. In fact, she could not sleep without the rather loud 'tick tock, tick tock' so she carried it with her to our house, too. If you ever decide to let it go, could you please, please, please let me know? I have looked for one like it since I have been an adult and have never found one….
Blessings,
Celia
Great finds! The springs look like candle holders to me.
Hey – Love the cake stand idea mentioned in the comments for the springs… mine holds/sorts mail on my desk!
fun stuff! I have a friend who started collecting springs like this and she made them into swirly wreaths. Might be a fun Christmas project to tuck in your hat for the future!
