I did it! 90 days of P90x. Whew! It was tough, but I really enjoyed it and I am very happy with the results. I’m going to say upfront that I am not affiliated with P90x or Beachbody (the company that makes these workout videos) and I bought this program on my own, because I wanted to get in the best shape of my life and lose weight. This is just something I’m doing and I wanted to share an update and p90x review on my blog.
You can read more about my get-fit journey HERE and HERE.
What is P90x?
It’s a DVD in-home workout system that focuses on strength training with some yoga and cardio thrown in. It takes 90 days to complete the workout schedule and you change things up each month.
Why did I decide to do P90x?
I love a challenge and, if you can’t tell from my DIY escapades, if I’m going to do something, I’m going to do it. I don’t want to just get a little workout in. I want to be sweating and shaking and collapsing on the floor when I’m done. I want to increase my strength and do really hard things like chin-ups, one-armed-push-ups and jump-knee-tucks. These workouts gave me what I wanted.
Would I recommend P90x?
Yes. It’s definitely not for everyone, but it’s doable. Tony, the trainer, is very encouraging and he shows ways to modify every move. It’s okay to start with 2lb, 5lb weights and to only do 5 push-ups on your knees. The motto is, “Do your best and forget the rest.” You just have to go into it knowing that you’re going to feel like a total weakling and you may just laugh as you barely even bend your arms during some of the push-ups, but that’s okay. You do have to commit and you do have to be disciplined and you do have to push yourself. You will get out of it what you put in.
I would not suggest this program for someone who has some major physical injuries or limitations. If you have some minor arthritis going on or minor pains, you’ll probably be okay and can modify when you need to. This is a great workout program, but it’s not for everyone.
Did I follow the program exactly?
No. At first, I felt like I needed to do everything exactly or I was cheating, but then I remembered that I am an intelligent human being and I can make decisions that work for me. I can still work very hard and be disciplined. I realized into week three that I hated and dreaded the yoga DVD. It’s an hour and half and it’s only about a 330 calorie burn. I enjoyed aspects of it, but overall I had a hard time facing it on the yoga days. So, a month in, I swapped out Yoga X for Core Synergistics. The DVD is still focusing on core strength, but it’s a greater calorie burn and I didn’t dread it. I also skipped out on the Ab Ripper X. Trust me, my abs were getting enough work! That just came down to the fact that I would put so much into the workout, I was just pooped and couldn’t do abs.
Did I follow the P90x meal plan?
No. I already had made big food changes and continued doing what I was doing. The meal plan just didn’t work for me, so I continued eating vegetarian, focused on whole foods and counted every calorie in My Fitness Pal. I weigh and measure everything except fruit and vegetables, so my portions stay under control. Nutrition really is key to seeing results and I kept reminding myself of that when I was sick of weighing everything that went into my mouth.
Did I do anything in addition to P90x?
Yes. I went on walks and made sure I was active most of the day. I would do calf raises as I stripped a piece of furniture or folded laundry. I would do lunges on the way to get some chocolate milk for one of my boys. I went on bike rides, played a little tennis, cleaned…whatever to keep me busy. I also wore my Up Bracelet every day, which is a pedometer, so I tried to get over 10,000 steps a day. I took my son on a bike ride one day and after going around the circle one time, I asked if he was up for another time around. “Oh yeah, mom. This is great exercise!” I realized he was regurgitating what I say when I need to get something from the basement or when I’m cringing as I lift weights. It made me so happy that they are seeing what I’m doing and it’s catching on.
I know you all want to know…what are the results?
Okay, I will admit that I do not have the guts to show my official before & after pictures. I am just not there. Maybe one day, but not today. Here’s a picture taken at the Atlanta workshop I taught in March. I think I was wearing a tummy-sucker-inner, too…
…and here is a picture I snapped two weeks ago (no tummy-sucker-inner)…
I have lost 12.5 lbs, which I know isn’t going to set any records for weight loss over 3 months, but I’m going at a pace that’s sustainable for me. Also, I have built a lot of muscle, so I know that can add a bit of weight. If you ask me about my results, I will have you feel my biceps! Just a warning.
The biggest changes were in my measurements…
- 5 1/4″ off my waist
- 2″ off my chest
- 3.5″ off my hips
- 2.5″ off each thigh
- 1/2″ off each arm.
So, now that I finished P90x, I just started another Beachbody workout, Insanity, today. Oh my goodness. It is appropriately named. I am going to continue to do some P90x strength training along with it as well. I am so close to doing an unassisted chin-up, so I want to keep working on that. I’m also going to tighten up even more on my eating. I actually think I need to eat more calories than I have been, but I want to focus on eating about 80-90% nutrient dense, whole foods. I’m probably at about 70% right now.
Thanks to everyone who’s been cheering me on! Insanity is a 60 day program, so I’ll check in again in a couple of months. I have 12 more pounds to lose to get to my first goal…

I’ve seen the infomercial for P90X… so Wow! Good for you. Awesome on the inches lost. That has to feel so good. Congratulations on the results from your hard work!
WOW! Those inches are awesome! Keep up the great work. On an aside, it took me a minute to realize that was not a giant yellow drink in your hand in your before picture 😉
Way to go!!! That is awesome, and you should be ridiculously proud of yourself. I’ve been looking into workout DVD’s. I’ll have to check it out. Thanks so much for the update. 🙂
There you go again Marian, inspiring us all!! Congratulations on completing P90X! And for trusting yourself enough to do what works for YOU!
You look great and are an inspiration!
oh Marian! Im SO SO happy for you!!!! P90X is not easy- but you did it! and 12lbs is AWESOME! Its about a lb a week, and thats the exactly where you should be for healthy weight loss 🙂 Also- muscle gain will effect what the scale says too. I hate the scale. Stick with the measurements!
We (my husband and I) are on week 6 of Insanity. Its very different than P90X, but equally as rewarding. 🙂 He is committed to everyday, but since I run and lift with a trainer, I do 4-5 days of Insanity a week usually.
Congrats to you for making such healthy changes in your life! Its amazing!
Good for you, Megan! Thanks for the encouragement. 🙂
Congratulations on your results! You look really good. I started Insanity 5 weeks ago and can’t say enough good things about it. It’s the first time I’ve ever been excited about exercise. It helped that the first month is a GREAT workout in less than 45 minutes. Now to work on the food part. Keep up the inspiring work in all you do. Rachel
Woohoo! Good for you, girl. Bring it! 🙂
Good job! I will check out your biceps in precisely one month. Count on it.
Your results are amazing and you look mahvelous, dahling 🙂 I look forward to hearing about Insanity too.
I had the pleasure of attending a Tony Horton weekend fitness camp in San Antonio back in 2005. It was a three day camp – we worked out 3 times a day with Tony and had lots of sessions talking about fitness, nutrition, and his philosophy. What I loved about Tony was how *real* he was – in person, he is exactly like he is on the videos – encouraging, funny, determined, pushy 🙂 He pushed the really fit among us to work harder and harder, and the older/out of shape ones to do what they could, and keep trying to do more the next time.
Patty
Yeah, I thought he was a bit cheesy at first, but I liked him more and more as I “got to know him” through the videos. He’s a great trainer. I like ShaunT, too on Insanity so far. They are both a nice balance of pushy and encouraging.
Congratulations! Way to go! I started T25 challenge today! You & I sound so much alike!
Awesome!
This is awesome! I just downloaded the nike fitness app (free)… love it!!
laura (12 pounds is amazing)….
Huge difference, especially for your waist measurement! Very good going…I wish I could get moving more, I am very out of shape, so this is inspiring:)
One tip my dad gave me when I was doing upper body workouts for high school sports: when doing pull ups/etc, you do about 60% of the work on the way up and about 40% on the way down. If you can’t go all the way up, get a boost and hold the exercise as best you can on the way down. It’s not perfect and it doesn’t build muscle as “fast” but it’s a good way to add a bit more range to an exercise such as pull ups!
So proud of you!! I know how exciting seeing the results are!! It shows, you look great! Just did 5 weeks of Insanity then we had to drive to Alaska. So now I am doing Insanity and running since its so crazy here in the summer. Try Insanity!! I want to try Les Mills Pump, do like a hybrid with Insanity. Jabbering on here lol! Thank you for all of your inspiration, I think your pretty terrific!!!
Congratulations! Way to set a goal and stick to it! I am impressed with your after pic. The older I get, the more I realize how difficult it is to lose weight and keep it off. I admire your determination. Way to go!!
Duh! I didn’t read the end. I was excited reading because I love this sort of story. We sound exactly the same about exercise! Anyhow, you are gonna love Insanity! Let us know how its going…keeps ME encouraged! …my husband always says “whos Miss Mustard Seed?” I bring you up a lot lol!
Kudos to you!! I know how hard those workouts are. Three months of anything is an amazing accomplishment. Inspiring in so many ways!!
Marian you rock!! Congrats for sticking with it – your inches off results are the best testament to your hard work, never mind the scale even though we are ingrained to look at those dang numbers! I’m older than you and I think that the best result would be the more strength and energy that fitness will provide for us in this business of moving around furniture and heavy lifting kind of activities since I plan to do some vintage markets starting in the fall; I sure know what kind of work that entails so I am also starting on a fitness program. THERE I SAID IT, OUT LOUD< LOL!!! Thanks as always for the generosity of sharing your knowledge and journeys. I KNOW how hard P90X can be as I watch my 21 year old son do it and he really gets an extreme work out. I am SO impressed with your progress!!!
Congrats Marian. 12.5 lbs is great. That’s 43,750 calories burnt but more importantly bec it was a mental resolution rather than a token change, you’d be (I believe in you) always healthy from hereon. People’s weight swing back and forth usually because they’d make the effort then lose track over time. You’ve been consistent throughout your blog about your dreams and ethics. If you’d do the same here, we’ll have the great benefit of you having even more energy and strength ( watch out Taz. “Imagining Marian holding an armoire in the air while painting it “
CONGRATULATIONS! Those BB workouts are no joke. It’s a huge accomplishment to stick with such a plan and you have me feeling inspired!
I have two schools of thought reading this…A)You must again know what I am thinking/considering!! B)God put you in my life(as well as others’) to inspire me in so many limitless ways, so many. Thanks for this post Marian, just what I needed and if anyone can motivate me to be fearless and to take a chance on myself, it is you. Hugs to you lady!
Hugs back to you, Erin! I’m so glad my blog has been an encouragement. 🙂
AWESOME!! Thank you for sharing with us. We think you’re great!!!
Congratulations! It takes a great deal of will and determination to pull off what you’ve done! You did it and it sounds to me as if those changes you’ve made will not only improve your life but those of your family too – job very well done!
Way to go! You look great.
Congratulations! The results you obtained are impressive and you look fantastic! I appreciate your openness about becoming a healthier and more fit you. I think sometimes that task can be very daunting and frustrating especially when work and taking care of family compete for your time. You are an inspiration to so many! Have a wonderful 4th!
Thank you for NOT being afraid to share this personal side of your life with us. You are an inspiration in ALL that you share with us. Congratulations on such hard work. I think you look fabulous from what you have shared in your after picture already. Can’t wait for the final pictures.
xoxox
I want to say great job,you go girl, wow, keep it up,but in reality I’m jealous.Yeah nasty to say but honestly, I feel even more like a loser. Depression. It’s awful.I know I should be encouraged, uplifted, get up get moving. But I just can’t seem to get out of this hole. I want to start being healthy,my oldest son OWNS a gym.A kick ass full on gym. (Relentless Strength training). But here I sit looking at you getting all fit.Don’t get me wrong Marion,I adore everything you do.Your the bomb! Well maybe today I’ll eat healthy,do a push up or take a walk. Please don’t take offense to this ,I’m just being real.
Oh, Mary, I love your honesty! 🙂 I think we all feel that way at times. I definitely feel that twinge when I see people who can eat anything they want and they are still teeny-tiny and cute. I know I will have to work at being trim the rest of my life and I’m sure it’s only going to get harder as the years progress. Big hugs and I hope that son of yours gives you some free training and encouragement. It’s hard to get motivated!
How wonderful – you look great, you feel great & you are energized for more! I love it – congratulations!
That is so great Marian!! My husband and I first did P90X 5 years ago! Since then we’ve done it hit or miss a few other times but I was never brave enough to buy (or try!!) the Insanity! 😉 Can’t wait to hear how that goes.
But I do have P90X+ and have quite a few other Beachbody workouts. I just love them. The ten minute trainers (P90X) are great too when short on time.
It is a WORKOUT (P90X) for sure….but it gives such a sense of accomplishment! And you definitely see results.
My favorite “go to” on a regular basis is Chalene’s Turbo Jam. So fun to do. (I love punching and kicking, lol )
You look great! So excited for you! And congrats on the inches loss…that’s awesome!
Nancy
I love kick boxing, so I’ll have to check that out. I think I enjoy the “choreography” aspect of it and the fact that it’s aggressive I’m not an aggressive person, but I do love kicking and punching the air! 🙂 Makes me feel tough.
Great job! My husband started a fitness challenge in January, and is doing so awesome! He used MaxWorkouts.com. He also has discovered that he needs to eat more calories. 🙂 Keep up the good work!!
Great job Marian. When I’m trying to help a new team member decide on a program 75% of the time P90X makes the list. As you stated, most people can do it because Tony shows you the modifications for every move. And it keeps your commitment fresh because it changes up the routine so often.
I would definitely look in to P90X2 when you’re done with Insanity. You can tell Tony and the gang really did their research when creating it. More focus on flexibility and balance where every exercise works your core. Plus, you’ll love the fact that Yoga is now half the amount of time and gets back to yoga basics. You may not want to hear it, but yoga is the key to my leaps in functional fitness and I would try to fit it in.
Contact me if you have any questions. I’d like to help. Do your best and forget the rest!
Jeremy
Yep, I already plan to order P90x2 when I’m done with Insanity. I really enjoyed Tony’s style of workouts. I have never in my life been able to do pull-ups and it was such an encouragement to know it’s possible if I work at it. Bring it!
Oh, and that’s good to hear about the yoga. I do enjoy aspects of it and definitely see its value, it was just too long and I wanted a better calorie burn, since I’m really trying to lose weight. I’ll definitely try the shorter version.
Way to “Bring It,” Marian!!! I, too, was not a perfect follower of the plan my first round of p90x. In fact, I was terrified of plyometrics! It took me awhile to give it a go. But that first time was clearly my tipping point; I was hooked. Don’t you just love Tony Horton??? He cracks me up. I bet you have some of his best lines memorized. You’ll love Shaun T just as much, even though he’s a different trainer than Tony. The joy is in the journey. Bananas, yo!
Yes, I thought he was a little cheesy at first, but once I “got to know him” and his sense of humor more through the DVDs, I really like him and he does crack me up. I’m enjoying Shaun T, too. I love, “ShaunT is sweatin’!” Just the way he says stuff makes me laugh.
Good for you! I can relate to your love of the challenge. I am currently training for power walking a half marathon for 2103 Walk the Walk America Moon Walk in NYC. I will be one of the many women walking in their bras for breast cancer and I’m so excited as the big day is just 18 days away! I’ve been burning a lot of calories while training; during my last 12 mile walk, I burned 1450 calories! Although losing weight was not a goal, I dropped 9 lbs since I started. without adjusting my eating habits as I’m already a whole grains healthy eater. Btw, tried Insanity but it aggravated a back condition I didn’t know I had. Ouch!! I’m sticking to walking, swimming and moderate strength training. Good luck with your fitness goal!
Great job! P90X is super hard and I am so proud of you for sticking with it on top of everything else you do. You are a great role model for your boys and for your whole blog fan team!
🙂
Congrats Marian…5 1/4 off your waist??!!…amazing!!….When I was doing “Curves” , I noticed the pounds weren’t disappearing as much as the inches…as muscle weighs more than fat!!..
You look great!
Congrats to you, what an accomplishment! I know it’s hard, changing what you eat and working out and keeping track of it all, but I’m really glad you got the results you wanted. Plus now it sounds like you’ve made some good habits for the future too.
Goooo, MMS! You inspired me a few months ago to get an Up Band, too, and I love it! Something about all of that data is really empowering. Thank you for inspiring me in this way-and so many other ways.
That takes a lot of commitment!! But that is one of your strengths! Congratulations! Keep it up!
Just bought milk paint…contemplating painting my dining room table…not sure about my commitment….:<)
Thanks for sharing!
You look wonderful – Way to go!
Go girl!! I’ve considered jumping right in and trying Insanity. I haven’t wanted to shell out the money but knowing myself I know I would and could push myself to do it if I broke down and got it. I’ll have to check in and see what you think aka if it’s worth the bucks.
P90x was definitely worth the money. It’s what I would’ve spent for a 3 month gym membership and it’s something I can use again and again. I also like that the programs are designed for a purpose, so at the end of series, you know you’ve been working towards a goal. At the gym, I felt like I was all over the place. Just going to whatever class worked in the time slot I could go and they weren’t all working together.
Insanity is really, really hard. I’m glad I did P90x first. That being said, I do think it’s doable and worth the money if you know you will DO IT and COMMIT. I modify moves when I get tired (like squats instead of a power squat or holding a plank instead of “ins & outs”) and I think anyone can do that. You just have to know going into it that you’re not going to be able to go as fast or look as pretty as the people on the tape! 🙂
That is awesome…Congrats…I want to do an unassisted chin up too! You have just motivated me bc if you can do ALL that you do and be successful I should not make excuses and do it! I have 25 lbs to lose…Thank you
Marian,
YOU will love insanity! It’s crazy how things come full circle. Let me explain. When I first read your blog it was while deployed in Afghanistan. I remember seeing you in a Home Decor magazine at the BX (yes, I am that person that reads a whole magazine and doesn’t buy it!) and thinking her house looks so serene and I could really go for no dirt and serene right now. When I got back to work I put my Sean T work out on small hold for 20 minutes and immediately went to your blog page. I was inspired to move mountains to say the least and I did by redoing a female contractors room that I worked with. However that is another story to tell. Either way between 12hrs shift, your blog and Sean T (and family support)I made it through. I remember you talking about P90X and I was like this chic is so busy….Doesn’t she know about sean T and that you can take him on the road? No weights or bars needed just your own body resistance a small space and a DVD player or computer? I didn’t mention it because I really didn’t want to deter you. I am a fan of P90X but when traveling or in a different environment other than home Insanity suits better. However I did want to give something back since I felt you gave me so much strength from your words to just basically “try”. Insanity was def a great out let and I still do it 6 days a week now. Yes, I have had amazing results. I was just about to suggest Insanity to you since you will be traveling this summer… then this morning I wake up eat my breakfast and read your blog and KABANG…your talking about being a way from home one blog and insanity the next. See full circle… I just want you to know you look great, keep going…you’ll be surprised by how much insanity does for you in the mean time please stay inspired and keep the blogs coming. You never know who your blog might reach around the world and how inspiring it truly can be!!! 😉
Warmly,
Amanda
Congrats!!
Keep up the hard work.
The hardest thing in the world for me personally is to lose weight. It is a battle and a struggle.
Your inches lost are incredible and that is where it really counts.
Thanks for the encouragement.
You rock!!!!!!
NICE WORK! I’m so happy for you! Oh, and Insanity is truly insane. There are things I like about it better than p90x, in that the first section’s workouts are max 45 minutes, but nothing seriously beats p90x. Oh, you should look into p90x2, the yoga workout is only 60 minutes!
FANTASTIC JOB!!! I obught p90x about two-three years ago and it worked wonders! It’s tough, no doubt, but the results are amazing. Again, well done!
Congrats! Finishing P90X is quite an accomplishment! I have done the program, but not exactly as it is written either. 🙂 I tried Insanity, but wanted to die. Ha! It was just so intense!
I know the balance of family and home and creative outlets and time in the Word and health…boy it can be so tough can’t it? It’s inspiring to see you working hard at it all! Thanks for sharing!
You look amazing! so inspiring! keep it up girl!
Great job! I’m so conscious of the weight I’ve gained over the last two years. I wrote about it last month and can’t really ignore it any more. I’ve been able to sustain an exercise commitment for about a week and then I slip. I become even more disappointed with myself with each slip. I’m currently 2 lbs. lower than my all-time high and feeling the way I do is becoming unacceptable to me. So thanks for the inspiration and encouragement! You look great and I bet you feel great too!
I am so proud of you!!!!! You look great!!!!
Congratulations! You look great! What an inspiration, in more ways than one!
WOW! You are highly motivated to finish up with Tony and move right into Insanity! I just had the pleasure of working out with them both in Vegas at our Beachbody annual Summit a couple of weeks ago and I’m super excited to be starting Shaun T’s new Focus T25 program next week with a group. Time is the biggest factor and this is 25 minutes 5 days a week with Shaun T – what’s not to love right?
Congratulations; you look AWEmazing!
Marian, that’s amazing and you’re looking great! Thanks for sharing your progress…very inspiring!
Congratulations, Marian (and Jeff too!). My daughter, Nancy, your SIL, wears a size 2, eats right(?), and exercises regularly at the gym. I exercise regularly, eat, well, well, and still wear 34 trousers. I know that will improve because Nance continues to slip me brownies and cookies that are absolutely great until Lizzy tells me what is in them, black beans and chick peas, respectively. Try some black bean brownies and chick pea cookies, a culinary experience that enlarges the carbon footprint and puts a hole in the ozone layer. Bring on the sausage gravy and biscuits and Blue Bunny Bordeaux Cherry Chocolate Ice Cream with maraschino cherry and Hershey’s topping with a large dollop of whipped cream.
See you tomorrow afternoon!
I’m eating with you 🙂
Wow, you go girl! You look fab! The stick-to-it factor is the biggest thing…congrats!
Congrats!!! You look great and it shows your determination and discipline. I really believe you have been hiding your true identify and you’re really SUPERWOMAN !!!!!!!!
Best to you as you continue on this journey, Marian! I know you already feel better and more energetic than when you started!! I often think that’s the best part.
You go girl! You look fantastic!!!!
Hi Marian!
Great job with the workouts – I just have to ask the silliest question – where did you get those BOOTS???!!!! Just what I’ve been looking for (well, last Fall, anyway: )
Thanks: )
Leah
Oh, I LOVE those boots! I saw them at LL Bean when we went to Maine last summer, but I never, ever spend money on clothes and shoes and stuff. My husband made a mental note and bought them for me for Christmas. I just love them. http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/78364?feat=506708-GN2&page=women-s-deerfield-rustic-boots-double-buckle&attrValue_0=Chocolate&productId=1291999
I can definitely see the difference. I saw those commercials one night on TV, and said, OMG, that’s what she’s doing. No way could I do that.
So, good for you!
Congratulations, you look great. You story is super motivating and encouraging. Now I need to get off my butt and workout.
Congrats Marian!
That’s a lb a week and I think the slower you take it off the easier it will be to keep it off. I know I could not even come close to doing a chin up and not sure I want to try. The end results you want are what matters. Way to go!
Congrats! Keep it up – you’re doing great
Congrats! It’s a big accomplishment! Working out requires dedication but it’s also a lot of fun to see positive results in the end. 🙂
Congrats on the weight loss! Keep on keeping on!
You look fantastic!! Way to go MMS!!!! You rock!!
Love,
Your “Womance”
Haha….promise I’m not a psycho! (You can even ask Donna H. In TX)
Nothing like posting something like this in a blog to keep you motivated. Maybe I should do that. Nice job. That’s a very hard work out. I know, I’ve tried both, but never kept up with either. You look “Mahhvelous Dahling!” You’re getting me motivated.
WOW…you go girl. that’s fantastic!! that’s just about 1 pound a week which is perfect accordng to my naturopathic doctor. that’s the way you loose to keep it off and loose fat and gain muscle. i too have been eating mainly a plant based diet which is more raw actually. i bet you feel great too!! you really are SUPERWOMAN!!! congrats and keep on keepin on!!! p.s. can’t wait to see the “after” pics of the bathroom! p.p.s. BTW, i’m the one who lives down the street from your mom.
That takes courage to post a before pic – even if you were rocking a tummy tucker inner 🙂 You are so right about Insanity being properly named! I’ve never done so many push ups in my life! Way to go!
great job!!!!!!! You are amazing, finding time, or should I say , MAKING TIme!!! Congratulations!!!!
What do you think of your Up band? I’ve had mine since Mother’s Day and I think it’s pretty great, but I so wish it tracked heart rate somehow! Congrats on finishing all 90 days. I’ve known several people who’ve started it, but I think you’re the first to finish. Great job!!
I really like it. I have come to rely on it to make sure I’m getting a good burn each day and quality sleep at night. Yes, I think there are definitely things they can do to make it better like adding a heart monitor, I think it’s a great tool, though.
Congrats!!!! Way to go Marian great job!!!
Keep up with your great work!
Carolina
WAY TO GO! I am impressed by your discipline, Marian!
WOW! congrats on your success!! I started out with P90X like you and onto Insanity.. I have done Insanity 4 times now and you are going to see such amazing results through it! I can’t wait to hear your journey on that program.. calories is the biggest part of it so make sure you are eating enough! My fitness pal does not work for the programs for calorie intake. Reading the beginning of the guides and seeing what the recommended intake for you and that program is the best option.. If you need anything I am here to help!
Yeah, there is a huge difference between the calories the Insanity nutrition guide says to eat and MFP says. I’m afraid of eating too many calories, but I may not be eating enough. I also tend to be a “calorie hoarder.” I like to eat light and save my calories for the end of the day, so I have more options for dinner. It would probably be better to spread them out…
Marian, you look freakin’ amazing! Good for you! All your hard work is paying off. I know two guys who are doing Insanity. They were already buff hotties to begin with, so be prepared for it to kick your butt, but your results will also be even more amazing when you are done with it! Can’t wait for more B&E pics then!
Best,
Kimberly
It is great what you are doing. But the most important part is BEING HEALTHY!
Marian, dear, you look fabulous! Congrats to you for hanging in there- that is so admirable!
Best,
Mimi
You go girl! !!!!!!
Looking good! Thanks for the inspiration!
Debbie
Marian when do you sleep?? :o)
What a wonderful thing you are doing for yourself and learning so much along the way. Congratulations!
Bibi
Way to go!!! You are so inspiring in so many way!!!
Fantastic job!
I tried to do P90X with my husband a few years ago. I actually really liked the Yoga, but hated the rest. I did about 30 days. My hubby did the whole thing. I never would have learned how good doing yoga can make you feel, without P90X. I am older than you so I needed the stretching of my old body. I woke up without my aches and pains. I think that I will do that yoga again. Thanks for that reminder.
I love your tenacity, Marian. You go girl!
Wow! You look amazing! I totally see the difference all your working out has made. Very inspirational. Go You!
Great job! I’ve started P90X so many times but have never officially finished it. So that is big in my book!
I have Insanity too and it. is. insane.
Only made it through 30 days.
I’m seeing a pattern here. :/ Something I need to work on.
Love your site, love your style, and keep it up!
omg so proud of you!! I wish to do the same, and sure once summer ends, Tony and I will be friends haha. was it hard for you to find the time? I cant wait to hear how you do with Insanity! discipline is it for sure!! you’re amazing, love your strength :)))
I did it in the morning, so other things didn’t get in the way. I missed a few days, but I just picked up where I left off and I always made sure I was still getting a good burn (by walking, etc.) I just made up my mind that this was a high priority for me and my husband was very supportive in giving me the time if I needed it later in the day.
I also let people know what I was doing, so if you’re visiting me…sorry, but I’m doing P90x. I’m going to try to get my sister-in-law (who’s very fit) to do Insanity with me when she’s visiting. Anyway, I took a no-excuses approach and it really kept me on track!
You are a great example. Your hard work and determination show through. That is something I need to work on is finishing. What a great feeling to have! Keep it up girl! Y OU CAN DO IT!
I am certainly impressed by your stamina and perseverance, but I just HAD to say that I LOVE the outfit you are wearing while teaching your workshop! SO cute! In Texas if I wore boots, socks, AND tights, I would MELT, even in winter. Good luck in your fitness endeavors!
Rock on Chickie! And rock hard!!!!
Marian–
You look sooooooooooo amazing! You should be very proud of all your hard work!! I did P90X a year and a half ago – someone said oh you could never do that… well I showed them. every day at 6am for those LONG 90 days I got up and did it. It was never fun but loved the results. Afterwards i was a big slacker and didn’t do much. I still have some of the muscle tone but wish I would have done some small exercises to maintainit more. Good luck post p90x- word of advice keep up some exercise daily to keep that fabulous bod!! You don’t have to do p90x crazy stuff but just a little bit! See you at Haven!
Woot Woot!!!! Just wait until you do INSANITY… it IS insane! One of the hardest things I did….I loved it and hated it all at once! But you feel so accomplished each time you finish your video… I did do P90X, did get to finish it because we were in the middle of a move…So KUDO’s to you, you should be proud of yourself… I found the pull up’s the HARDEST!!!! I’m proud of you, you should be to….. You Go Girl!!!!
WoW! That’s some inspiration!! I just started ANOTHER diet on Sunday, I believe this will keep me inspired!
Thanks, Faye
Also, to note if someone is looking for a good workout, but can’t do long workouts, I use Tony Horton’s 10-minute trainer videos. They are very good and packed for a 10 minute workout! And yes, I have seen results using them! Just a thought.
Congrats!! Thanks for being so honest and sharing your story. It’s awesome to hear and such a motivator!
WOW! That measurement roll out is super impressive. And I bet you feel great! I am three days into kicking my Diet Coke habit. I have been exercising every day for a week now, and I feel so much better. And I am trying to eat along with the food pyramid, to make sure I am getting all the nutrition I need everyday. It’s funny how we all forget that if you take care of your body, it takes care of you.
Way to go lady!
Marian
teri says you look amazing kept up the good work

Marion- I am so proud of you. You look awesome. I bet you feel awesome, too. After seeing your Jawbone UP band, I investigated them and bought one each for my husband and me for our 11th anniversary. (Happy Anniversary- let’s stay healthy and alive!) We have been using them to see how we eat, sleep, exercise, and move, along with some other apps. It is like getting a grade every day. Thank you for motivating the Little Seeds who read your blog.
AWESOME! I loved (and laughed) when you said, “then I remembered that I am an intelligent human being and I can make decisions that work for me.” That’s so true! I love how you mixed it up. I totally see a difference in your two pics. Congratulations!
Oh Marion,
That is absolutely wonderful! Don’t you just feel better (body, mind, and spirit)? You really are an awesome little lady and you look fabulous!
Thank you so much for sharing your strengths with us – I so need to hear this. I just turned 51 on July 1 and am in the throws of menopause. I was a bean pole prior to 2 years ago and “wham” 30 lbs., night and day sweats, crying all the time, foggy and irritable! Makes PMS look like “child’s play”!!!!:)
Anyway, again you look fab and you really are setting an example for the boys. I would love to hear what your husband is saying – you probably have him scared to death!!
Take care and have a blessed 4th!!
Debbie
My favorite part of Insanity? The fact that everyone is DYING right along with you, through each workout. Makes me feel so much better.
One thing I noticed during the last few weeks, however, was that my wrists hurt. Shaun incorporates a lot of plank and a lot of that plank work includes some kind plyometric. Hard work and for me, hard on the wrists around week 6. Nonetheless, great work. You must feel so ALIVE!
Great job Marion !!!
I just signed up for my first half-marathon. It’s been a goal for awhile so I thought If I don’t do it now I may never do it. Anyway, I’m super excited and it’s so great to share these triumphs with girls that get it. I’m busy, I have a big family, I am trying to run a DIY business. I sometimes put myself last but I am changing that this year. Doing a half-marathon or doing P90X is doing something for yourself. Good Job! Keep going!! xoxo jenny
You look great! I realized I love encouraging people like Tony – even if it isn’t in person, it’s so refreshing to hear positive things! Go for it, you’re amazing!
Thanks for the inspiration!!! I definitely needed it…AGAIN!! I need/want to lose weight because I would like to be healthier and in better shape to care for my two young daughters. My husband ordered the Hip Hop Abs workout video series and I did it once but now I will go for it b/c I HAVE TO!!! You look great and Thank you for sharing!!
Great job!! You are so inspiring! I have P90X, but have just started it…..like 2 or 3 times.
I had to laugh when you said you’d do lunges when getting your boys chocolate milk…..as *I* was thinking as in walking to the store (lunging all the way) to get milk……Im thinking you were just going to the fridge! 😉
Congrats!!
GREAT JOB!!!! Slow weight loss will STAY off!!! Very PROUD of you!! xoxox
Wow!!! You look fabulous!!!!! Go for it!!!
You are super talented, thank you for all you do! : )
