Now that the release of has been postponed (manufacturing & shipping delays are affecting so many industries including publishing), we are just over 10 weeks away from the launch date! To make that time go a little faster (for me and for those who are anxiously awaiting its arrival), I have a fun countdown schedule planned! It’s sort of be like opening advent windows as you countdown to Christmas. It’s a high-resolution download of the original piece of art hanging over my fireplace! This is an original painting and I have not released it on or with any commercial clients. I am offering two versions of the download. One is a high-resolution jpg that you can print at home (if you have a nice photo printer & paper) and one is a humungous TIF file that you can take to a professional printer to have it printed on canvas or quality paper in a size that’s perfect for your project. (The original painting is 24 x 36″) The beauty of the download is you can have it printed in any size that is right for your space.
Let’s back up a minute to the moment when I was staring down this huge blank canvas. I had never painted a canvas this large. Oddly enough, I have painted much larger pieces of furniture and even entire walls, but there is something about a canvas that feels intimidating to me. It feels like I have to create something worthy of being labeled as “fine art.” For some reason, this feels easier on a smaller scale!
But, I went to work on an underpainting and it started to come together. The landscape is based on a picture I took as we were driving around Rochester, MN. I sort of loved the underpainting, but I wasn’t ready to stop at that point for this particular painting.
I worked on it over a few days, carrying it into the living room and leaning it up on the mantel to make sure the colors were working well with the wall color and fabrics in the room.
I have loved having a piece of my own artwork in such a prominent place in our home. I was very self-conscious about hanging my own paintings initially, but I’m embracing it more and more. It really is one of the ultimate ways to customize your space.
