Miss Mustard Seed’s Wuslu Pick of the Month & Giveaway!

It’s that time again! Once a month, I get to scour wholesale catalogs and pick out something that is my very favorite. Wuslu then sends me one and makes it their featured deal of the day.

When I spotted this chippy pie safe I knew that was “the pick.”  It reminded me of one I’ve been oogling over at an antique mall, but I never bought it because it was too expensive and pretty rickety.  I love the grass-green color, the authentic-looking chippy paint and the potential…oh, the potential of this piece.  It can sit on a counter or buffet or it can be hung on the wall. 

Of course, it would look fabulous in a kitchen or dining room, but I think mine is going to end up in my half bath.  The pop of color and worn finish will look great against the bright white bead board.  Just look at this finish…

 

 

I don’t know how they achieved that flaked look, but it is my mission to figure it out, so I can duplicate it (and share it with all of you!)

  109. My fave past sale you’ve done was the rusty metal farm baskets. They remind me so much of the ones (I still have a couple of them!) that my Grandma used on her farm in Iowa when I was a little girl. They were great for veggie picking and egg collecting. She used to pull some long blades of soft grass to put in them to cushion the eggs. Lovely memories!

    Pinterest is my new addiction and Wuslu is filling up my Dream Home Stuff category fast! I “like” Wuslu a LOT!

    I bought an antique cheese chest for a dollar, it is not painted but is has the wire on the side and all, really charming. I am not sure what to do with it since the top is all warped.

Reminds me of the story my grandmother told me a long time ago where she made 2 pies and left them outside to cool (in the garage I think…maybe in their outside fridge) and they had someone break in and steal stuff in the garage and they took the pies!     HOW TO GET THE CHIPPY LOOK:

    The night before you paint, put Vaseline on the spots you don’t want the paint to stick to. The next day paint as usual. Where the Vaseline was applied the paint will not stick. LWipe off any excess Vaseline after the paint dries and lightly sand the spots. Use a paste wax, (I use Bri-Wax, but I know you are a big fan of Annie Sloan – either will work) clear or tinted, to seal the wood where the paint did not stick and give the painted surface an aged look.

    as for my favorite from their history page, i’d have to say that pie safe is the winner. i’ve seen several things come through my email and that is tops! i also really liked the metal basket with glass bottles. adorable.

I screamed when I saw the preview, got my bank card ready the night before, and hovered over my keyboard at 6am the next morning waiting for the pick to be posted and the mat to become available! SO wanted 2 of them, So happy WUSLU made it affordable, I have always drooled over it on the MMS site and couldn’t believe I could have one too. Yay! Yay! Yay!
