I hit the right Goodwill at the right moment on the right day. The Goodwill store in Westminster, MD is big and always has a lot of cool stuff, but it can be a little pricey sometimes. Today, they were overloaded with furniture and almost every employee looked like a college student who didn’t care about fetching a high price on something “old.” So, I scored a bunch of really great things for a song. I got this chair…
…a vintage wooden rocking horse (that I’m going to paint to look more sophisticated)…
…a ratty, but not stinky, ottoman…
…and an amazing antique china cabinet, which I have not snapped a photo of, yet. I also got some silver and three Pyrex bowls. It was a jackpot for someone like me.
We also hit Lowes and I found a couple of goodies there as well. I needed some more drop cloths to make slipcovers, so I grabbed the usual 8 oz Finish Factor canvas cloths. I realized when I got home that they are cream! I don’t have to bleach them! I wonder if drop cloth manufacturers have read my blog and decided to save poor, crazy, little Miss Mustard Seed from having to bleach their product.
I also found the latest issue of Country French magazine. Oh, sweet mother of all that is inspiring and drool inducing. Yum.
And there’s no rest for the weary. I have been reorganizing my office. I finally got sick of climbing a mountain of stuff and wading through fabric and shopping bags every time I needed to find something. I threw away the notion of having a pretty office and bought three commercial wire shelving units and loads of plastic storage bins. This place won’t be pretty, but darn it, it’s going to be functional and I won’t have to buy a new pack of Sharpie markers every time I need one and can’t find one. Can I get an “amen”?
All of my decorating and resource books are now visible and easy to reach.
Believe it or not, I have gotten some rest. Hubby let me sleep in this morning and we had a nice lunch together to celebrate our success at Lucketts. I also haven’t painted anything in a week!
Next week, I’m hoping to put some things up for sale that didn’t sell at Lucketts, work on my first video tutorial, and post some small and simple projects. We’ll also resume FFF, so stay tuned!

I have no doubt that you'll make the wire shelves look chic. 🙂
wonderful finds!! Where did you get the wire shelves…I need some!
Can't wait to see all the goodies transformed! I love those wire shelves. I want some for my craft room.
Can't wait to see what you do to the ottoman that you got.

I got that magazine yesterday!! I had to look at it 3 times to make sure it wasn't just reprinted content… It's a great issue!! I love the shelves… costco?
Amen! Make it work for you.cause you are doing all the work! olive♥
Love the chair! Would you believe I had the insane luck to find not one but FOUR of them by the roadside a few weeks ago? I'd have taken the table top too if it had had any legs or a pedestal to go with it.
Can't wait to see all these items once you've worked your magic on them! 🙂
I can't wait to see what you do with your new goodies!!! I just love your blog!!! Well, I guess that means I love you too then!!! haha!!
Take car and have a great weekend!

You scored some great stuff at Goodwill. Can't wait to see what you do with it all. Glad you are getting some much needed rest this weekend. Good for you that you have not painted in a week. I know you were exhausted. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Love & blessings from NC!
Great Goodwill finds! If anyone can make the metal shelves and plastic bins look chic it is you.

So good to hear that Lucketts was a great success. It looks like you are launching into more projects without missing a beat!
You have inspired me so much in the last few weeks!! Cannot wait to see what you do with your GW finds. I'm curious about feed sacks too?
Looking forward to seeing what you do with your great finds! That chair has got me thinking of a few redos. The ottoman is cool too. Great going sister!

Miss Mustard Seed, you know I love you, but that's my Goodwill!!! … Maybe one day we can have a tug-of-war over a fabulous find!
I just purchased some dropcloths and am making slipcovers for two of our chairs, I'm hoping to finish them today… maybe!
Lucky you, the last couple of times I went to GW – nadda. I can't wait to see the magic you work on the horse. Amen, to your work area-I was JUST thinking I need to make a spot (any spot!) WORK for me.
You did have some Goodwill juju, it's always hit and miss for me.
I must confess I didn't bleach my "drops" before making slipcovers for my sofa and loveseat. They were already nice and creamy and I worried it would make them too light if I bleached them. Glad to see it wasn't me but that the drops have changed!
Nice finds ! What are you going to do with the ottoman? I'm looking forward to it. I bought a similar one and cant decide how to change it.
Well Done !!!
Its been fun checking up on your journey, thanks for sharing 🙂
it's always good to have good luck at Goodwill! Sometimes their furniture can be overpriced, but sometimes you can find a great deal on chairs and small items.
Congratulations on all your success at Lucketts!
Ah! The sight and feel of a freshly organized office. *sigh* Bliss!!
Congratulations on Lucketts and your amazing deals at Goodwill.
I'm so happy for you that Luckett's went so well–and it looks like you're well on your way to the next batch of amazing transformations! Congratulations on your Goodwill haul and on making progress on your office. Sometimes function over form is the best way to go!
You never stop, do you? I love, love the GW stool and wooden box thing and the wire potential lamp shade. For the rest of you, the wire shelves are at Costco for $99, also at the Container store for much more. I read your sheet music tutorial, and think I'll make one.
One thought, since you worked SO hard for the show last weekend, invest some of your profits into a new piece of equipment. It is tax deductible and will help you be more efficient for the Christmas season. If you are making video tutorials, why don't you get some college students to help you. They can do it as an independent study. I am almost inspired enough to get painting. I am in the middle of nowhere now, and only have a Walmart and Home Depot, so I can't get some of the special glazes, etc. Ann
Great finds. I wonder if you bleach the already cream if it will turn white? I need a durable, white material for a sofa slipcover. It doesn't need to be bright white but pretty darn close. What do you think? I don't have any experience in the bleaching dept. except for already white socks and towels! Hmmmm…there's always white cotton canvas by the yard but it costs more.
Hugs,
Jami
amen to organizing shelves & plastic storage bins, they make my world a happier place 😉
sometimes you just need practical storage ;-).
I have the same industrial shelving and I use plastic shoeboxes to store my creatuve supplies as well. I was thinking of making drop cloth covers for them but haven't gotten around to it as of yet. Something tells me you're going to beautify you're functional storage real soon.
I am so glad that Luckett's was a success(as if it wouldn't be?)! Too, function over form isn't a bad thing, like others said, you'll make it look good:) Great scores too!
Can't wait to see the finished product!

For people like me – PLEASE – teach me how to "haggle"…
That is all.
Thank you.
P.S. Also, please come over and organize my office next. I'm a bit, ahem, messy…
Have you ever had an instance where a drop cloth had markings on it when opened? The last one I puchased from Lowes & opened had black streaks all across it. Thankfully it was only going to be used for painting.
