summer bed & fluffy towels

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Brooklinen.  As always, all opinions expressed are honest and my own.

We had a late spring here in Minnesota, but summer is definitely here now.  It was officially signaled by the fact that we finally kicked off our down comforter in the middle of the night.  I am always eager to bring it out each fall and am reluctant to put it away when the weather warms.

This year, though, it wasn’t a sad day when I folded up the thick feather decker for the summer, because now we have a lightweight down comfort from Brooklinen to replace it.

It is the perfect weight to offer the coziness I like, but it’s breathable and light enough that we don’t wake up sweating under it.

So I don’t add more bulk, I didn’t put it in a cover, but sandwiched it between the sheets and our quilt.

Before I go on, let me back up and introduce you to Brooklinen, in case you haven’t heard of them.  I actually was only introduced to them recently, but I’ve been so impressed with their company and co-founders.

The two things that caught my eye when I was combing their website.  One – the reviews.  Brooklinen products collectively have a 4.7 star review from almost 25,000 customers.  The lightweight comforter alone is ranked a solid five stars with almost 1,000 reviews.

And two – their commitment to luxurious quality along with their willingness to stand behind that quality with a full lifetime warranty.  If any of their products pill, snag, rip, or fray, they will repair or replace them for free.  To me, it speaks volumes when a company is willing to take a warranty that far.  A natural down comforter, especially one that is king sized, is an investment and it’s nice to know that, baring any freak accidents, it will last a lifetime.

The other thing I got from Brooklinen was a few of their Super-Plush Bath Sheets.

My, oh my…

I have always been a tactile person.  Even when I was an infant, I frustrated my mom by spitting out anything she tried to feed me until she found a spoon with the proper texture.  As a toddler, I loved my night-night (my blanket) because of how it felt when I wrapped it around my index finger and rubbed it gently under my nose.  As a girl, I used to giggle when my mom washed my sheets and I slid into the fresh smooth bedding.

As a long time lover of things that feel nice, I can attest that these towels are off the tactile chart.  They are so incredibly soft and fluffy.  I wish there was feel-o-vision through the computer screen, so you could experience how thick and plush these towels are.

When I first used one, it seemed crazy how absorbent it was.  The towel soaked up the water and then didn’t feel damp after.  I thought I might be making it up, because I really wanted to like them, but I read that exact comment in other reviews of Brooklinen Towels.

The bath sheets are also huge – 40″ x 70″, so if you like to wrap up in a towel after a bath or if you have a big-and-tall guy in your life, this towel makes a standard bath towel look like a washcloth.  Okay, not really, but they are big, thick, and heavy, and I can imagine guys like my dad and brother, who are both over 6′, really enjoying towels this oversized.

Hey…I may know what I’m getting them for Christmas.

Anyway, if you are in need of some fluffy towels, luxurious bedding, or other home textiles, you can use coupon code “mustard20” to get $20 off your Brooklinen order fo $50 or more, plus free shipping.

  1. Thanks, Marian, for the coupon and the lovely pics with explanation. I’d love to get new sheets for our king-size bed!
One thing—both my husband and I just don’t like the feel of the down comforter (weighing us down and making us hot during the night) which are so popular in so many of the hotels we stay in while traveling. Your post helped me to understand why we seem so in the minority. 🙂 Give us a regular lightweight summer blanket and it’s just right! They don’t even know what a blanket is at most hotels–and they never have a king sized one if they do have an alternative to the heavy down comforter. Funny how that has so changed in American places.

    1. It’s so funny how different the sleep preferences can be from one person to another. Feather comforters were pretty standard in Germany and we spent so many years there that I got used to them. A bed feels much comfier to me with one!

    2. At least you and your hubby have the same taste! My husband is a hot sleeper and would prefer a light blanket even in the winter. I, on the other hand, prefer the weight and thickness of lots of warm blankets. So, we have resorted to each having our own blankets and it’s been a marriage saver! It would be so nice if we had the same preferences.

  2. I just have to say we use the same wool duvet all year! We have used it in Canadian winters and Texas summers! I love wool because it breaths, that’s why it can be used year round in such extremes.
The towels look like they’d be good for cuddling.😜

    1. Also, wool is great for people who suffer from arthritis. For some reason even in my 20s I would be in pain all night and half the day when I used other materials than wool for blankets. Even polyester pajamas! Crazy how that works.

    1. Yep, sorry about that. I just added that clarification. It’s $20 off a purchase of $50 or more. And yes, that’s still a good deal! 🙂

  3. Marian, will you post about how you have decorated your bedroom, specifically how you decided to hang things over your nightstands instead of over your bed? I’ll also love to hear about the sepia colored pictures we can see in these photos. Are they family? My bedroom is my least loved room in my house, decorating wise.

    1. Yes! Please post your family pic wall in your bedroom. I have a gallery wall of old family pics and it is getting out of hand. I just love them all!

    2. It’s a room that’s still a work in progress, but I can definitely share more about it! Yes, the sepia photos are family photos that I framed and hung in a grouping. I love old family picture.

  4. You bed looks luscious! Living on the panhandle of Florida, (Ft. Walton Beach), it is hot, hot, hot. I only make our bed up with a sheet and quilt. It’s actually the Pickstictch quilt from Pottery Barn. We use the quilt in the winter which is a short season compared to yours, and we just use the sheet in the Spring, Summer and Fall and I still wake up sweating. (Some of which I’m sure is due to hormones). But I always love the puffiness of comforters.

    1. I lived in Orlando for High School and I remember nights with just a sheet and the fan on high and I was still hot. I just melt in the heat!

  5. Nothing like great towels. I’ve opted for bath sheets in recent years because they are so easy to wrap up in after a shower. I look forward to checking out this company’s items.

    1. Which is disclosed right at the top of the post…allowing you to skip it if you don’t like sponsored posts.

  6. Thanks so much for sharing the info on Brooklinen and the coupon! I ordered towels as I was needing some new ones and I can’t wait to get them. Love your blog and appreciate ALL that you share with us. Have a great weekend!😄

  7. Hello!!! In the 3rd pic form the top…did you also get the “puffy” bed topper from Brooklinen? Can you say what it is called?
    Thank you for any help.

    1. That is the lightweight comforter on the bed (as opposed to folded in the first two picks.) It’s a feather comforter.

  8. I have used Brooklinen sheets for a year now, washing every week. They have held up beautifully and I love their crisp feel after washing.

  9. Thank you for the coupon. If the product is anywhere near as good as their customer service I’ll be over the moon. Have made a small initial order.
I am tactile also and I’m super fussy about my bedding, especially the sheets. Trying to find a good crisp cotton sheet is difficult as all the retail establishments are going for softer and softer.
I hope I’ve found my people in Brookline.
