power washing the front walk

We have done so much work on the front of our house over the last couple of years.  After all of the painting, planting, and updates, there was one glaring thing that needed to be addressed.  This front walk desperately needed to be cleaned.

We bought a power washer a few years ago, so we just needed to get it out and put it to use!  (The pressure washer we purchased is no longer available, but it’s similar to THIS ONE.  We paid much less for ours, though!)  I imagined doing this long sidewalk, along with the patio and pool deck, inch by inch, so I looked into power washer attachments that cover a larger area with less effort.  I ended up purchasing THIS 15″ surface cleaner attachment by Karcher.  Jeff was highly skeptical and really didn’t even want to get it out of the box.  He kept saying things like, “We’ll just test it out with the regular nozzle and then maybe we’ll give this a try.”  I finally talked him into it, hoping it worked as well as the reviews claimed.

You can see the initial test run HERE, but here is a screenshot of the video for those who can’t or don’t want to click over.

It was even more impressive than I expected, and I had pretty high hopes!  I just wasn’t sure if our sidewalk, which was clearly dirty for a long time, might be too stained.  It really was just dirt that needed to be dislodged, and the surface cleaner attachment did it.

Our sidewalk was so dirty that it was hard to see which areas were missed, so we’ll have to do a second pass to hit a few spots, but it looks so much better already!

We also don’t have great drainage where the sidewalk meets the porch, so I had to clean the water and dirt settling in that area with a squeegee and dust pan.

Just an incredible difference, right?  It was almost shocking, and I had to get used to seeing a clean sidewalk!

The power washer ran out of gas before Marshall could finish the sidewalk, but we’ll get it done along with the patio and pool deck.

I’m so excited to see some of these projects, which have been on my list for a year or two, happening.  I always thought this house was a little gem that just needed some polishing, and now it’s becoming quite the charmer…

As I write this, my mom just stopped by bringing my husband a power wash attachment that she said works wonders! Your sidewalk looks sparkling clean and gives your home extra curb appeal. Sometimes, its the smaller projects that make the most impact. Nice job!

I have a Karcher as well. The key to success is to move slow and overlap. A good piece of equipment. Frankly, there are better out there that have wheels, but it works fine.

This job is so rewarding, did my driveway and deck. Ran out of gas 4 times, but keep going. Your sidewalk looks great now, was pretty black ! 🙂

You’re one of those people who can make a tent look charming! The front looks fabulous and that sidewalk is the Chef’s kiss 😘

It runs on gas versus electricity and only lasted that small of an area? I have always found power washing to be the most rewarding cleaning activity! So little effort for so much improvement.

It wasn’t a full tank. More accurately, we ran out of gas, and Jeff needed to go fill up our gas can.

Wow! Looks new. The cleaned sidewalk brightened your entire home. Still loving those colors. Such a cozy-looking home–the type you slowly walk past on your nightly walks imagining what the inside looks like. Please keep the inspiration coming.

      Amazing difference!
The front of your house is looking so fine. I love the bricks on your house just as they are but I think it could look fantastic with the bricks painted to match the colour of the garage too.

Oh, my goodness. What a difference. The front of your house looks so beautiful. I can’t wait to see the plants after this summer. They will probably put on a lot of growth and only add more beauty to the yard! Fantastic job.
You are always such an inspiration to me. I’m chipping away at the ‘to do’ list of projects around my “cottage”.

We have an electric power washer that works great. Plug it in and go. No need for the noise and smell of gas powered unit. It also has similar attachments.
