Milk Paint & Wax Giveaway from John Millen Hardware

If you’ve read my blog for at least a few months, you know how I love Milk Paint and soft furniture wax.  If you haven’t tried either of these products or you have and want more, you’ve come to the right place at the right time.

Milk Paint is the product I use to get the super chippy look on some of my pieces.  People go nuts over these pieces.

(Color – Slate)
It’s an interesting paint to work with and unlike any of the “usual” paints.  It comes in a brown bag in powder form.  You mix the powder with warm water to turn it into “paint.”  It’s delightfully unpredictable and has a slightly funky smell and I love the stuff.

The finish is porous and not water-safe, so I seal the finish with Fiddes & Son’s soft furniture wax.  It gives a warm, hand-rubbed luster to the piece and protects it from water and wear.  It can easily be applied with a brush and buffed with a soft cloth when it’s dry.  Dark wax can be used as an antiquing agent as well as a finish/stain over unfinished wood.

(Color: Sea Green)

Would you like some?

John Millen Hardware is offering up two quarts of  Old Fashioned Milk Paint and two tins of Fiddes and Sons Wax.  Awesome, right?  To enter, visit John Millen Hardware’s selection of Milk Paint colors and leave a comment here letting me know which two you want to try.  (My favorites are Snow White, Sea Green and Slate.)  Colors can also be easily mixed to make custom colors.
John Millen Hardware is giving you an additional way to win a $100 gift credit to their shop.  Purchase something from their online store through Sunday at midnight PST and you will be entered in the drawing to win! (If you purchase Milk Paint and/or wax this weekend and win the giveaway, a refund will be given up to the value of the giveaway.)
My giveaway will be open until Sunday, October 9, 2011, at midnight PST and a winner will be announced on Monday, October 10.  Good luck to everyone!

I have been compensated for hosting this giveaway, but I used and loved these products and bought from this online shop prior to this sponsorship relationship.  All opinions posted are my own.

  1. I would probably go with the Slate – it looks so versatile. Haven't tried either the milk paint of the soft wax but i have a couple dressers out in the garage that would LOVE some of this kind of attention!

  2. Ooooohhh….I'd love to try this! I would pick Driftwood and Sea Green if I was the lucky winner!

  3. I would like to try Slate and Snow White. I just love the look that these paints provide! I'm quite new to the DIY/upcycle/redo world and your site is a huge inspiration to me!

  4. I'd love to try Buttermilk and Driftwood! That super chippy look would be amazing on my bedside tables 🙂 LOVE your blog girl!

  5. I so would love to try Pumpkin and Buttermilk- such a gorgeous color combo or maybe Bayberry Green & Light Creme !

  6. I love the Pumpkin and the Salem Red! I would probably get the Salem Red because it would match my decor a little better, but that Pumpkin is just gorgeous! I also liked the Cream color and Slate. Really nice palette.

  7. Yessss..I would love to win! My choices would be Sea Green and and Buttermilk. I would definitely choose the Light wax too (x2-I go through it fast!)

  8. I have heard about Milk Paint but have never had the opportunity to try it out yet. I have to agree that the Slate is a fave but I also am loving Soldier Blue and Barn Red. As for the Fiddes & Sons wax I LOVE it! I started using it back when I purchased my first quarts of chalk paint. I nearly fainted at the price but it is as smooth as butter and very easy to work with. Goes a very long way! Thanx for this opportunity Marian!

  9. I would love to try slate and oyster white as I am trying to create a peaceful beachy atmosphere. I love the idea of an environmentally safe product used on my "trash to treasure" furniture finds.

  10. Federal Blue and Driftwood are my present favorites…we've also used Snow White, Sea Green, and a few others…this is an awesome product that gives such an old look to pieces. I love the way it can crackle and such on it's own…have not tried the Fiddes wax, but will do so on my next Milk Paint project!

  11. I'm curious – what does it feel like to the touch? I'm a very tactile person, and recently in Round Top, Texas felt some chalk paint/wax finished furniture and didn't care for the feel. If I won some barn red, I would give it a try, however! Sally

  12. All of these milk paint colors are great, but I really love slate, barn red (always love red) and light cream. I have never used milk paint and always wanted to try it. I hope I get the chance! Thanks…

  13. If I was selected as a winner I would choose the Tavern Green and the Buttermilk. I have several shades of ASCP blue which I love love love, but I would also to try my hand at some milk paint in something different. 146. Hello!
I am just finding you and interestingly enough I have been searching for some kind of paint to make my furniture look old, without the latex! and
I am so glad to see your blog and the milk paint. I am in the middle of priming a very outdated china cabinet…but cannot figure out what to paint and color to put on it after. NOW, I am most anxious to try this…and I am very sorry but I cannot get the colors to come up large enough to read but I am working with white and medium green in my kitchen…so something in that line.
    thanks for the chance!
    @aol, tibrze

  166. hmmmmm…hard to pick but driftwood and bayberry or pumpkin would be good choices and FYI the folks at John Millen are awesome, they replaced a can of Fiddes wax after I inadvertently ordered the wrong color, no additional shipping, even though it was my error, now that's customer service!

  171. Sitting here actually contemplating how I could finagle a way to cover my roles as wife, mom, volunteer and home care PT to road trip it from Chicago out to help you paint your space. Yes, you are that loved by your groupies MMS!
    Not gonna happen though 🙁
So, imagine my surprise and, well, DUH moment went I trucked on over to oogle the yummy milk paints and realized the famous John Millen Hardware, that I have so long read about here, is about 45 min away! Definitely doable.

  194. What a delightful giveaway! I would love to try Snow White and Slate for starters. I still have yet to try Milk Paint. My life has been crazzzy busy all through summer. I'm looking forward to bring back in Alaska and working on some pieces through the holidays. I was up in Pa earlier this summer; I'd hoped to bump into you or at least make it to Lucketts so I could actually see your work and touch it. One of these days hopefully.

Thanks for the great giveaway. Woo-hoo!

    Blessings to you and yours
