Some of my favorite projects are the ones that I do for children.
I thought I would share some of them with you!
This mural was the first one I ever worked on. It was a collaboration with my dear friend and talented artist, Laura Dreyer. I was going to use a projector for the hares, but she painted them freehand! This was in my son’s nursery, which is now my office.
This toy chest was my grandmothers, but it was painted a very unappealing yellow. I painted it out in a creamy white and my friend, Laura, painted the car. I love the simple and classic look of this toy chest, now.
(Well, I offended my mom. She saw this post and let me know SHE was the one who painted it the unappealing yellow! Sorry mom!)
This bench was a Goodwill find for $3.97. It is one of those white composite step stools from Target. The previous owner had painted their daughter’s name and flowers on it. So, I painted the entire thing a fire engine red and painted the ball & glove with a vintage looking border. I rubbed a dark walnut stain over the entire piece to tone it down.
Rebecca had bubble gum pink walls – good for her mom for letting her choose her own color! So, I painted her name in lighter colors that coordinated with her bedding.
This is a sample mural I painted in the baby & kids room of our current retail space. I think it would look lovely over a crib!
This is an airplane growth chart I designed for my sons. The plane is hand painted, but the letters and numbers are vinyl (cut out with my Cricut.)
I mostly paint things, but lettering looks so much sharper when you use vinyl. It takes less time with a better result.
This dresser was given to me by a family who was moving. It was hunter green with brass knobs. Not wanting to spend money on new hardware, I silver leafed the knobs and coated them with spray poly. I then painted it Creamy white, leaving the top as stained wood. The numbers painted on the drawer fronts were painted freehand and were inspired by the markings on antique crocks.

This is in my upstairs bathroom. I thought it was a fun and playful way to remind my boys to wash up.
I am not a fine artist, but I have done a few paintings on canvas. This is a fun bug series that was inspired by a BHG special edition magazine.
I bought the hand crafted bench at a yard sale for $5.00. The wood and finish were in great condition, so I just painted a sports theme on the seat – perfect for a little boy’s room.

All are spectacular! My two favs are "I love you to the moon"…I read this story to my son when he was little all of the time…what sweet memories. I also loved the "reaching new heights" I want to do this on my son's wall! He is 6 and growing like a weed!!!!
These are all fun! I still have the book from the first mural you show ~ even though my kids are in college now.

I am new to your blog, so back tracking is so fun and exciting. Anyway, I saw in your office the mural. I searched and found the post of your murals. I had to laugh when you stated the you were going to use a projector to do the hares. I painted a scene from that book on a wall in my basement. I had just gotten married and my husband wanted to watch Star Wars. I couldn't stand it, so I ventured out. The walls were in horrible shape so I just free handed everything. It turned out amazing. Then I had this beautiful painting on walls that I could not show off. When it came to painting the nursery for my first child, I chickened out and used the projector, because they were nice walls, it was for real & I couldn't risk it:) I was relieved to see that even you were going to use a projector.
