A Rough Morning…

I had a rough morning.  My 1 1/2 year old has been sick and either he’s crying or wants to be held.  This extra attention to the sick child has made my 3 year old demanding and fussy.  After being cooped up in the house for most of the week with this dynamic, I finally lost it.  My wonderful husband could hear that I was rapidly becoming the mommy monster and I needed a break.  He came home early and gave me 3 1/2 glorious hours to do whatever I wanted.  I decided to take a very long, very hot shower first.  Then, I headed out to hit a few thrift stores and pay a visit to Hobby Lobby.
Our Hobby Lobby is pretty new, so we don’t have much of a clearance section, yet.  Today, however, there was an entire aisle of clearance items.  I found this metal cloche with a bird on top for $5.09.  I basically threw it in the cart.  There was no question that this was coming home with me.
And just in case I was confused about this piece and thought it might be fun to give to my 3 year old for his next birthday, there’s a tag to clear that up.  Ooooh.  Now I get it…it’s not a toy.
The main reason for my 45 minute trip to Hobby Lobby was to get more fabric.  I made a decision.  I am going to make this…
…for my master bedroom.  I found this picture in the current issue of French Country and I knew it would solve several problems.  I already made a great dent in this half canopy, so I should have it done in a couple of days.  No luck at the thrift stores today.  There was a lovely drum table at Goodwill for $15, but the top was really bad and I have enough projects that need my attention.  When I got home, my birds from CSN Stores had arrived.  I just love them and now I need to find the perfect place to show them off.
Last night, I painted my vanity in the pale aqua color…and I don’t like it.  Something just doesn’t look right about it.  Oh well, it’s just paint.  It needed to be repainted, anyway, and now it’s confirmed that I like it in white.
I also repaired some scratches in a gold leafed frame for a client.  I’ve done leafing before, but this project reminded me how much I like it.

This post is a little all over the place, but that’s a pretty accurate representation of my day.  I can’t wait to look through all of your FFF posts…

  1. Holy cow, you have two small children and one is sick and you STILL got all of that accomplished?! I'm impressed and I love your "non" toy bird cloche!

Hope your little one is better soon!

    Kat 🙂

  2. I'm glad you were able to get out of the house and regain a bit of your sanity. And I hope the little one feels better soon!

I have serious cloche envy, too.

  3. My nearest HobLob is an hour and a half away (in either direction) – I, too, have serious cloche envy AND HobLob envy!

Hope the little fellow feels better soon!

  4. Sorry your little one is sick.

JEALOUS that you have a HL! That 'not a toy' is fabulous.

Gold leaf…would you consider doing a tutorial? Or have you done one, and I've missed it?
It scares me, but its something I want to try.

    Have a wonderful weekend.
I'm going comma crazy at my house, big plans for the commas. 🙂

  5. Sorry for all the ruckus going on! Happy to hear you got out and did some happy damage DIY wise though. 🙂

I like the idea of the white on the dresser too. It'll tie in really nice with your larger one. You'll be a neutral lover yet!

  6. Thank god you have a husband to understand the dreads of the mommy monster. Looks you had a very good 3 1/2 hours. Love all the little birdies and really looooove the cloche.

  7. Glad to hear your husband was sweet enough to give you some down time. Being cooped up with two children who demand your attention can certainly be trying. You found some lovely items and seem to be rolling right along with fun projects. Too bad the aqua didn't work out. Paint is easy to remedy. Have a great weekend and hope the little one is well soon. Blessings, Tammy

  8. How sweet of your husband. I love your Hobby Lobby find. I only wished we had one in our area. But unfortunately the closest one to us is about three hours away. Hope your little one is feeling better.

  9. My step-sister lives in Fayetteville, and I have been dying to visit the Hobby Lobby in Chambersburg. The only one I have ever been to has been in Cape May Courthouse. I make my husband stop whenever we go to the shore. Your adorable wire cloche was worth the trip.

  10. So glad you realized that the wire cloche was not a toy. ; ) {Although, I guess they could use it as a cage or jail for the bad guys}. I heard Hobby Lobby is making it's way on the east coast and I hope it gets to Long Island. Your canopy will look great ~ I love the Country French magazine.

  11. Sorry about your sick little one! But what a super hubby. You put your time to good use. I am crazy about that beautiful wire cloche! I could think of a thousand uses for it. And with Spring on the wing… perfect!
    Beautiful blog.

  12. Wow you sure did use your time wisely. I probably would have went to HL and stayed there for hours 🙂 or went to my bathtub for a long soak.
I have similar wire cloche, that I just posted, asking for ideas to use it?? I never thought about using it without its base?
I hope your little ones are feeling better.
    Have a blessed weekend.

  13. Sorry to hear that your little one was sick. Hope he is feeling better and that your 3 year old doesn't come down with what he had.
Great finds at HL….love the cloche!

  14. Sorry to hear it was a rough week for you and your children. Hope they are feeling better today! What a wonderful husband to give you some time for YOU!

I've never been to a HL. I'm afraid.

    Love the cloche!

Love your site. And can't wait to start painting those commas! Thank you!

  15. I totally get how you felt. I am at whits end almost every day now. Hubby being gone for over 7 months with me getting not one day off is probably going to cause me to take meds 🙂 I am glad you had fun at HL..and CSN contacted me to do a giveaway- did you have a good experience with them?

oh i have that metal cloch too- love it.

  16. Lucky you! Our Hobby Lobby hasn't marked these down yet! I'll keep watching! Bed looks great!
