A Basket, a Sconce, and a Topiary

The skies have finally cleared, the sun came out, and our temperatures soared into the 60’s. So, what’s a girl to do? Paint! Due to our much improved weather, I was able to crank out a few small things and I have some larger pieces that are almost ready to share.
I just completed this basket today. It was a pretty straight forward makeover…grungy old basket gets a coat of primer, a coat of SW Open Seas paint, and a coat of Krylon Gloss Poly. Much better. I’m also showing off some of the new quilts I just picked out to sell in our new shop. They are gorgeous!

Here’s the basket before. I purchased it at an auction for $1.00! It just needed a little love & paint. It came to the right place.

I love old baskets, especially when they show that they’ve been well used. I can imagine someone carrying freshly washed linens out to dry on a line in this basket. I painted it Open Seas blue, because I knew it would compliment a lot of my furniture and the new quilts I just got.

Now it looks fresh and clean. It’s ready to display quilts and find a permanent home when someone sees it in the shop and just can’t live without it.

I purchased this brass candle sconce at Goodwill a few weeks ago. It has sort of a Moroccan feel…not bad, but brass just isn’t my thing.
A good cleaning and a simple coat of white spray paint gave it a lighter and more romantic look. I really like how this one turned out.

And the white really brings out the details.

And do you remember this ceramic fruit topiary? I wasn’t sure if I really liked it, but I thought it was neat and couldn’t pass it up.

A coat of white spray paint and some antiquing glaze makes it a whole new piece. Wouldn’t this look great on a kitchen island in a vignette?
Just a reminder – I will be hosting my first Furniture Feature Friday link party this week! The post will go up Thursday at 10:00pm EST and run until Friday at midnight. You can post any piece of furniture you have transformed. It doesn’t matter if you just replaced the knobs or did a total overhaul! I will choose my favorite makeover and award a handpainted giveaway that I paint just for you. And, let’s be honest, who doesn’t want that? (Have I mentioned that I get my humility from my dad?) Anyway, grab a button, get those posts ready, and spread the word!

  5. You made great use of your time on a beautiful day!! All the projects look great! I look at everything differently now when I'm out thrifting…items I might have passed by before now get the "how would that look painted" evaluation. Debra (3rd comment) said it best…paint, a girl's best friend!

  6. You have done some great projects. I wish I could do some projects but all that I am able to do is make sure that my husband is packed and ready to move on Friday. Then it is two trips in two weeks and then a pack to move 800 miles. So much going on but hopefully soon, I can participate in all these fun things.

  7. I totally 2nd someone saying you sure make good use out of your time! I LOVE the new improved looks of all those things!

You most certainly carry the 'visionary' eye trait. 🙂

  8. I love the basket and how beautiful the quilts look all nestled inside. (Gives me a good idea for storing some quilts of my own in our living room for the time when the days are chilly and I just want to snuggle on the couch!) Looking forward to your Furniture Feature Friday!

  9. I have an affinity for old baskets too! That's one of my favorite hunts when I go thrifting/antiquing. I love the blue one! Wish I lived close to your shop! Maybe if I ever make it out to the eastern side of the state, I'll stop in!
