Today Kriste, Jeff and I worked on making some more milk paint how-to videos. One of them involved a plume of Tricycle milk paint and some giggles, but that’s the kind of stuff that’s entertaining and shows that mixing milk paint shouldn’t be taken too seriously. It’s supposed to be fun!
Now that we have the first video under our belt, Kriste was much more relaxed and I felt more comfortable interacting with someone else and not just yakking away.
This is our view when we’re filming…
…and the GoPro camera and shotgun mic are hanging from my pot rack. It’s a little makeshift, but it’s doing the trick!
As we were filming, Jeff slinked out because a truck arrived to deliver our look books!! Kriste and I ran out to check them out. They are beautiful.
I cannot express how proud I am of our team who worked on this… Heidi, my assistant, Abbe, Allison, Jen, Maria and Eddie. Some of our retailers also contributed mixing tips and photographs to round things out. And, I have to give a nod to our printer, Shweiki Media. I had nightmares of getting a book that felt like construction paper (seriously), but this looks gorgeous and feels quality.
It’s amazing to me that we actually did it!!
So, what should you expect from Look Book One? It’s far more than a look book…it’s a magazine/tutorial book/look book all in one. This book is full of over 130 pages of before & afters, color features, tutorials and 101 articles on using our paint and companion products. This would be an excellent resource for those first starting out with milk paint or those who want to get the creative juices flowing and learn some insider tricks of the trade.
I’ll be shipping out the look books to our retailers who have ordered them so far, so they should be available online and in stores soon! (Some of my retailers including Ironstone Nest, Reinvented Vintage, The Porch & Atelier, are offering them for presale now and I’m sure others will be listing them soon!)
It was so fun putting this look book together and I learned sooooo much (like I need to put some text on the spine and even with SEVEN proofreaders, there can still be mistakes). As I’ve shared before, we’ve already started working on Look Book Two. I’ll share more on that later.
I got another fun thing today…
Kriste, who is so sweet and thoughtful, bought me this oversized mug and plate. It’s an antique, but it’s the size of a modern Starbucks mug. I have never seen a piece like it. Kriste looked tentatively at me as I held it in my hands. She almost winced, “Is it the right kind of cow?”
“Oh, it’s the right kind of everything!” And it really is. Blue & white, the cows…
…and I love when mugs have printing on the inside rim and handle.
Yep. The right kind of everything.

Oh – big girly squeals of excitement about the look book coming out! And well done on your video’s too. They are looking great. A fab idea to follow Kriste in her MMSMP journey! Have ordered some look books for my store, so I’m sending speedy thoughts to the “ships” bound for Down Under!
I always leave your posts feeling inspired! Thank you!
*Love the cup…and cow!

Hi Marian! Can’t wait to get a look book…checked all the online stores and no one has them listed yet. Are you going to sell them in your store, too?

XO Barbara
You look fabulous on your book cover. Aren’t you pleased!
Marian, oh how I wish we could get a cuppa together! I had so many encouragements for you about the house stuff, but it looks like you are trusting your very loving and BIG God, who knows what is best when it is best.
You are bombish dot comish – thanks for sharing your real heart – transparency and vulnerability is so key to growth in Christ – I love you for it.
And now…. can’t WAIT to see this book in person. Since I am a complete font freak, where, oh WHERE did you get that font for your Milk Paint book? Oh EM GEEEEE…
Blessings!
your Luckett-sy pal,
lisa
I actually drew it by hand based on a tattoo font I saw!
And yes, please excuse the grammatical error,”transparency and vulnerability ARE, Lisa, ARE so key…”
🙂
You must be thrilled to see that book out… fabulous!
i can’t wait to see inside your new book! i have loved all your tutorials, and think that in addition it is nice to have a hard copy to read with my cup of tea whenever i need a bit of inspiration. so this looks perfect! thank you for taking the time to write it all down, karen
I’m so excited to see the look book in person, Marian! I can’t wait! Thanks so much for including me in the process! 🙂
I would love to help proofread your next look book. I’m an English teacher with a home improvement/decorating/DIY obsession, and I love your work.
So cool about your book. I cant wait to see it in person. I know what you mean about the book being a lot of work. My niece just had a book published and it felt like it took forever. But it is beautiful also. If you like to bake and have parties check it out.. Its called ” Eat More Dessert , by Jenny Keller ” Its on Amazon. And love the cup and saucer!
you are a total brand, just like Martha.yep you did it!
Congrats on the book, it does look super, I like books packed with inspiration and color!!!!
That cup and saucer is very cool indeed, the cow is awesome. I have never seen an antique with a large cup like that. Very pretty, don’t you just love it when someone close to you gives you something and it lets you know “they get who you are.”
How can I order one of your new look books?
Looking forward to your book. I hope Amazon is one of the retailer’s …..congrats!
So happy for you! Congrats!!!
Excited to put a Look Book next to my Inspired You book!! Can’t wait to start some projects~~thank you for sharing yourself & your talented creativity. Love the antique cup & saucer~~~!
The Look Book looks great! 🙂 I have just started reading Inspired You, and I am really enjoying it. The picture on p. 60 of your son coloring at the coffee table sparked me to organize my “desk” (a.k.a. nightstand next to the couch). You had a metal basket for magazines on the coffee table, and just after I made a mental note to start looking for something similar, I realized that I already owned the perfect basket! I had been storing fabric scraps in mine, but I found a new home for them, and discovered that my basket was the perfect size for my pile of papers, journals, and books, and also that my laptop fit perfectly right on top! I love it when things like that happen. 🙂 Now, every time I pick up my laptop, I get to see the pretty blue cover of Inspired You (which looks nice and also hides the mess underneath). Ha. 😉
LOVE the mug!
On another note, I know it’s important to have sponsors, but maybe there’s another way the video sponsor on your site can advertise? It does a real number on my web browser (as well as being irritating as all heck!). If you could consider something else it would make this calming and inspiring blog time stay just that! Thanks!
Your look book is sooo appealing! I’d love to see one in person. What a great idea to get the creative ideas flowing. The photo of the chippy dresser in blue is scrumptious! and the photos look amazing.!
That mug is amazing too. I love that it is oversized. I’d love to know the story on it, and why it is made so big. I’ve never seen one like that!
Cindy
Oh so excited about your new book! I loved seeing how you have the camera set up and hearing about the mic, etc. Y’all do excellent work always!
The mug and saucer are so beautiful and I am like others as I would love to know what it was made for and used for originally since it seems to be so rare.
Hi Marian! Just ordered your look book and am SOOOO excited to receive it!!! Reading your blog over this past year has been so inspiring. Little did I know that I was going to be taking on the huge project of remodeling an entire house in the span of a few months. Your unique approach to design has been such a breath of fresh air–it has really helped me have a little more confidence in taking risks and looking at design “problems” as opportunities. Thank you!!!
On a separate note, have you thought about selling a “sampler pack” of your milk paint colors? I’d love to have small samples on hand so I can try them all, especially when a creative spark takes hold and I want to see if a particular color would work for a project I have in mind. Just a suggestion!
You are amazing…just amazing! Thank you for all of your hard work…can’t wait to see the book! I just love the blue and white cup as usual.
I’m so excited to order your look book!!!!!!! I’m going to read it from front to back over and over lol. And I’m in LOVE with the cup and saucer. Thank you for being amazing!
