The Dresser, the Rack, and the Wardrobe (and more)

I have some new finds to share with all of you. Before getting sick, I stopped into one of my favorite thrift stores. I rarely walk out of there disappointed and that day was no exception.

Some of you might see the vision that I have for these, but the rest of you may need some convincing. I know they’re brass and scream 1970’s lounge wall art, but just imagine them in a fresh coat of white. I am just in love with them and you will be, too. Trust me. They were $1.25 for the set.

I also found this vintage milk bottle for $1.00. It just needs a good cleaning and it’s ready to go.

A friend of mine sent me a text message while I was in the ER telling me she was at an auction. She asked if I would like her to bid on some small benches for me. Don’t you love friends like that? So, I gave her the thumbs up. She bought these three cuties and I think I might paint them and sell them as a set like this. They look so cute together that it would be a shame to split them up.

She also snagged this great fretwork magazine rack for me. I can’t tell you how much she got these for, because she told me I didn’t owe her anything. Again, don’t you love friends like that!

And yesterday, while I was driving to Small Group with a van load of teenage girls, I saw this dresser on the side of the road. “Girls, are you ready to do some dumpster diving?” They were game, so we stopped and picked it up. The poor girl who sat next to it got very familiar with its funk and almost took a drawer to the head while going around a turn. What a trooper! The girls even helped me carry it to my basement workshop. And guess what the sign says under the word FREE? “I have a second one. Call this number.” I think I might.

This is what I am most excited about. I really needed more storage for my office. My fabric is stuffed back in a tiny 1940’s closet and I have things piled all over the place. I’ve been looking for a sturdy vintage wardrobe that had great lines and I finally found this. After many rain delays, my husband was finally able to pick it up for $50.00, It needs a little TLC, but it is very sturdy and perfect for my needs.
And isn’t the hardware awesome? I just love it. I’m going to paint it white and then figure out what I want to do from there.
Tonight I am going to our current shop to pack up items that don’t fit the look of our new space to take to an auction tomorrow. I’ll also get to clear a lot of the clutter out of my house. Yay! On Thursday, I start painting and moving into the new shop. I can’t wait to share my paint design for the space and how it all comes together. Stay tuned!
By the way, I have two awesome giveaways lined up for the next two Furniture Feature Fridays. I have found some very talented women who are willing to share a lovely item from their Etsy store for the winner. Make sure you get your posts ready! It goes up Thursday at 10:00pm EST. If you’re interested in being a sponsor, send me an e-mail!

  4. I am constantly amazed at the awesome finds you get—a lot of time for dirt cheap or free! What's your secret?!! I love the dresser, and you should totally call the number and get the other one! Also, the wardrobe is beautiful, and will be even more so when you're done with it!

  5. Cannot wait to see what you do with all your new finds! I have some of those butterflies. I think they are stuffed in a box somewhere. Unless I gave them to my daughter that loves butterflies.

  6. I can't wait to see what you do with that dresser….My thrift stores mostly suck… I do have a fab little antique shop that's real cheap, but I NEVER find stuff like that!

  7. I remember those butterflies at my Mom's house. She is flabbergasted each time I show her what others do with what she now calls her old junk!:)

I look forward to seeing how they turn out.

  8. Oh my I had those butterflies when I first got married-I'm pretty sure they were from Home Interiors. Now I wish I had saved them! can't wait to see what you do with them.

  9. I am green with envy. I just recently started in the world of thrift and recreate. I have beeen scouring craigslist and local thirft shops and don't find nearly the cool things that I see gals finding on blogs. ie: the free amazing dresser you found, and another attached. What a awesome find. What are some of your secrets? I would love to know. frog2fab.blogspot.com or you can email me at simplifyingourlives!yahoo.com
I love seeing all the fun and unique ideas of reusing otherwise lost pieces. I can't believe what I have been missing out on and look forward to this new side of life. I did find a bottom part of a hutch someone was throwing away and am in the process of trying to save her. Maybe I just need to be more patient.
THaks for sharing your talents. Courtney
