I have become a big believer in sharing my shopping wish lists publicly before going to an antique market. It’s a bit like wearing my “lucky sweatshirt” when the Commanders have a game (which I do), but it often proves to be effective.
Remember before the Lucketts Spring Market when I posted that I was looking for an antique portrait painting similar to this one…
….and then I found the exact painting I had photographed two years prior and shared in that post?
Yeah, that’s some spooky lucky sweatshirt kind of happenstance. So, I thought I would share what I’m looking for while at the Country Living Fair this weekend. In case you missed it, I’m attending as a speaker (you can find the details HERE), but I will have lots of free time to shop the event, so I want to bring a list to keep myself focused.
The main thing I’m looking for is frames for my artwork. While I do use some new frames, I prefer using vintage and antique frames. More specifically, I look for chunky wood or gilded frames. They seem to suit both my style and my artwork.
I just finished this piece today…
The other thing on my list is easels to display my framed originals at a show and display pieces for prints. I have a nice French box easel and a tabletop easel, both of which I used at the Lucketts Spring Market.
It would be nice to find a few more so I don’t have to lean pieces on table legs. Eventually, I hope to have an entire mobile booth set-up with walls for hanging art, but I’m not quite there.
For display pieces for prints, I’m looking for baskets, boxes, and small racks that look nice but still show off the prints and make them easier to see and browse. Those will also be nice for small works.
So, my entire shopping list is centered around my budding art business. Mom and I are planning on meandering up and back to Rhinebeck, NY, so we’ll likely hit a few antique stores on the drive in addition to shopping the fair.
I’m bringing along my camera, so I’ll give you the scoop on the event as well as places we hit along the way…
