I don’t mess around when it comes to moving into a new space. I want to get unpacked and settled as soon as humanly possible. I think it’s my military brat upbringing. Moving was just a part of life and something I anticipated. Maybe that’s why I like change so much?
Anyway, I’m good at moving. I didn’t have a lot of time to plan for this move, though, so most things were thrown into paper shopping bags. Nothing was boxed or neatly labeled, but it all made it there. My mom and I got quite a bit done yesterday, but today Kriste and I were able to get the studio to point where it’s functional.
Here’s how it’s looking…
Some of these pieces are to sell and others are to use for photo props.
The chairs are for workshop attendees. Jeff is building two farm tables for me that the chairs will go around.
We have photo props on a rolling shoe cart.
Our plan is to keep this stash pretty small, so we’ll use things and then sell them and there is constantly fresh stuff to work with.
At the back of the studio is my stash of furniture to work on and pieces to sell.
My plan is to keep this stash relatively small, so it doesn’t get out of control. Right now we need to get things organized a bit more and I need to get painting!
We got the storage closet mostly organized, but organizing isn’t a forte for either of us, so one of Kriste’s friends, who is an organizing guru, is going to lend me her services. It’s pretty good for now, though.
I’m dividing the space in two, so we have a “back room” for shipping, storage, etc. Just imagine pretty walls on casters hiding that wire shelving.
The shelving is storing our boxes, packing materials and some inventory for the online shop and Chapel Market.
Here’s the “back room” from the other side…
This is a sight you should get used to, since it’s where we’ll film a lot of our video tutorials. It’s also the space I plan to use to teach workshops.
I’m still cleaning out the drawers and figuring out what I want to put in the shirt counter.
And I had a little bit of time to play around with my camera and the light.
I feel so inspired and motivated in a new way. I can’t wait to get back into the studio tomorrow…

Hi, Marian! I am a longtime reader. Congratulations on your wonderful new space! I am sure you will gain lots of new inspiration there. I admire all you have accomplished!
On another note, could you please recommend a source for me to purchase a nice quality boxwood wreath? I know you use them in your decor, but I don’t see any listed in your online shop. I want to get one very soon for my living room and I’ve been searching online. Before I make my purchase, I thought I’d see if you could give any recommendations for where to order. I just need one, and I am thinking around 16″ in size. Thanks!
There’s a shop in Glyndon in Northern Baltimore County and they sell these wreaths all the time. They aren’t as inexpensive as Decor Steals (with which Marian is affiliated, right Marian?) but if you need one and don’t want to wait, it’s a good source. You can google them. They sell everything from candles, to jewelry, to bags, to wreaths, to pottery…you get the idea. All accessory type stuff. It’s worth a little road trip if you are into that kind of thing. The owner, Sandi, is very kind.

Preserved boxwood is available through Magnolia Homes, Joanna Gaines in Waco, Tx. Also Target stores of all places. If you need one right away Target usually has them in stock. You can also order them from Target.com. I’ve had wonderful service from Magnolia. I’m not sure what sizes they stock however but it’s def worth a look. Good luck with your search!
Congratulations – what a great space! I’m thinking I need a space so that I can take my house back!
The birth of your new studio is soooooo exciting….I am just imagining walking around in that space – your pictures do that, you know! You invite us in for a closer view…..and suddenly, it feels as if we are right there with you. It’s going to be so much FUN watching you put your signature all over this space. God bless you in this new chapter of your business/passion. Makes me smile!
Love watching your new space come together! Just think of all the creativity in one place! I helped my brother move his home store into a larger space this Spring & I know how exciting & thrilling it is! Best of luck!!!
This is so exciting! As a long time reader I am so thrilled to watch your company (and you!) continue to change and grow.
it’s a dream…could you please tell me how you ship furniture..everytime i find a piece it’s $300 to have shipped…do you use a service where they pick up and ship for you and doesn’t cost $300
Wow.!! And all of that was in your house??
Totally amazing and so you. Must have been in the stars not to sell the house. You must feel like you’ve gained 6 rooms, plus you’ve got AC at home and a short commute to the beautiful studio. Wish I lived closer to see it in person.
Wow, so pretty. I had no idea you had so much…stuff! No wonder you needed a whole new space. Love that you’re willing to admit that organisation isn’t your strong suit – we all have different pros and cons.
Kristine
Marian, instead of the pretty walls on casters, have you thought of more than just a wall? Specifically, more storage…lightweight walls with casters, but with built-in shelving, with drawer handles to pull them by. I have seen them (online) in mini-homes, and they don’t have to be any bulkier than a regular wall would be. You could store lighter items such as textiles, ribbon, and twine. Just a thought…
Wish I lived closer, I’d volunteer to help!
So happy for you and to see everything coming together. God has surely blessed you and it is fun to watch. Look forward to your posts everyday. You are such an inspiration to my daughter who is embarking on her own business adventure and dragging me along. So much work for an old lady like me, but such a blessing to be doing it with my daughter.
Cindy
How fun! I’m so excited for you! And I’m totally motivated to get working now! Time to get my act together and start painting … and organizing! 😉
I’m so excited for you. What’s even more exciting is that I live locally an can take one of your workshops.
Did you really have all of that stuff in your house?
Looking forward to seeing how you transform the space. It is beautiful.
On a different note. The clock I bought from you arrived Friday and I love it. It is so cute and looks great with my other clocks. Plus it works. Thank you.
Yeah, isn’t that crazy how much stuff was in the house! My husband said he appreciate my organizational skills a lot more after seeing how much stuff came out!
Holy crap! was all that stuff in your house?!
you should use old doors to dividing the space.
Love the old door idea! Also hanging cheese cloth from the windows softens the light just a bit for quick photos and makes a fabulous blurred background effect. I love the space and am so happy you are following your dreams!
I LOVE your space. With all that stuff you definitely need and DESERVE a space for your business. I adore those green chairs. Every time I see them my heart leaps. I so wish I lived closer so I could buy them. When they didn’t sell at Lucketts market I was shocked. Please don’t change the fabric I love every time I get a glimpse of them.
Wowser…great studio! What first got your attention…all the light or those great floors?:)
It’s funny…I just found you and you’ve been to my neck of the woods many times….Loudoun County!:)
If I didn’t love and admire you and your spectacular business so much I think I could be very jealous of you and this gorgeous space you have taken over by storm. Continued blessings to you and Miss Mustard Seed !
XOX Karen
I love every darn thing I see here. What a gorgeous space to work in!
So excited for you! Going to be a great space for your growing business and blessings.
In another note… is the white grain sack chair with toile sides on the ‘sale’ side of the room… ?? If so, I’m COMPLETELY interested … would be perfect in our new basement. Care to sell sooner than later and make more room in your space?? 🙂
Best wishes and big blessings for the new space!! 🙂
-Alexis
It looks awesome, Marian. My husband’s family lives in Carlisle, PA and we go for Christmas every year. I’m hoping you’ll be teaching a workshop when I’m up there this year since we’ll be in your neck of the woods. I’d absolutely love to come see the space and learn from you! I look forward to reading your blog every day.
I want to move in!
So, when can I move in?! Hahaha I have fallen in love with everything in every picture…..my heart completely jumped when I saw the green velvet chairs…….these images will be stuck (gladly) with me all day 😉
Love it!!! What a great space to become inspired! I’m looking forward to see all the beautiful things you will be creating there! Congratulations on your studio!
I think your home will feel “roomier” with the amount of items you have brought to your new space. I do believe some things are meant to be, even if we don’t see it at the time.
I would love to come and take a workshop from you, in your lovely shop.
I live in NW NJ, in case there are others of us that could join forces.
Warm wishes headed your way!!
Hi Marian,
Adore your new studio! I’m so envious! You are living my dream. So happy for you really. Someday soon this will be my story too. A little different from yours but similar.
Best of luck to you,
Denise

WOW Love your new place and all the room to work etc. How great and I’m sure you will love the space as well. Good Luck and it looks great!!
Wow, so cool! The studio already looks amazing. 🙂 Can’t wait for a post on how the closet gets organized. Also, a post on back drops (when you get to that) and styling a dresser for pictures would be awesome….if you have the time and desire. 🙂
Wow! What a beautiful facility, beautiful floors, columns and windows – is God good or what???
Congratulations! Can’t wait to see everything that is being worked on. My things sit awaiting until I can get my next milk paint and bonding – hoping to get well and get back to work – until then, I sit, watch and enjoy others work – I do have a table to list – Good Luck!
a thought: one thing that came to mind when seeing that you were dividing your space was those ikea metal wire curtain rods that you tighten, and then can hang flowing gossamer fabrics from! they can even go in front of those metal shelves.
your space is so inspiring already! i can FEEL something special and it makes me wish i lived closer to take a class.
all the best, karen
You would NEVER have known all of that was stashed somewhere in your house!! Your new wrapping counter looks amazing! Such a great color.
I was in Ballard Design’s the other day and I thought of you. Not sure what your long range plans are. you could have a store next to PB ,BD and RH and run with the big boy’s!!!!
Wow…pretty nice space. Looks huge from your pics. Love those hardwood floors. Must be an East coast thing….don’t find them as readily in Southern California. Kudos you you and your family for the great move out….of all that stuff! It’s exciting for you and for us!
Lookin’ Good! MC
It’s interesting how things didn’t work out to sell your home, but now you have this space that covers a lot of the needs you had in looking for a new home.
I’m excited for you. We’re moving into a much larger home this month and I will be looking to you for inspiration!
I’m so enjoying the move and settling-in process! Wish I could pop over to beg for the red storage bin!
Congrats on the new space! such a great find and a blessing! It truely is beautiful and looks to be an inspiring space! LOve how it is coming along!
Wow! Your house must feel so big now! This seems like the perfect next step for you and I too hope you have multiple locations one day so I can visit!
Wow! It’s all so gorgeous, all the colors, fabrics, textures. Love that wall of architectural salvage items! Can’t wait to follow the progress. Such wonderful blessings for you and your family!
Wowza! Looking good.
Just wondering if you have to protect those pretty floors from paint somehow? I know YOU are such a pro you don’t spill a drop but a klutz, like me, might take a workshop and well…
Also, have you considered doing rolling fabric screens instead of walls? They would be a lot lighter and I bet Jeff could rig tall enough ones with PVC and casters? I did some once with clothing racks with tubing at the bottom for a taut screen but didn’t need the height you have.
Enjoying watching you feather your nest. Thanks!
My heart is bursting with happiness for you! What a glorious space for you. I t makes me smile to think of you imagining your way around the space. So great.
The Other Marian
Congratulations! It’s so exciting and I’m so happy for you!
What a wonderful space – congratulations! Love your collections as well
Wow, Marian…You don’t mess around. I cant believe how much you have gotten set up and done already in the new studio. Continued Blessings!
Hope you will host a Christmas Open House/Sale this year in your new place.
Where can I buy your new book and paint? I live in Texas. Can I order it from you? Thanks so much!!
LOOK at the responses! This is exciting and your new shop will be amazing Marian~ I wonder why I am not able to “Pin” from your site as usual. When I press the “P” it takes me to your Pinterest Page, and I couldn’t find the spindles or the blue vase with boxwoods in it~ Can you help or explain the difference please? This is REALLY important as I pin so many of your creations : ) Thank you and full steam ahead! Cynthia
Maybe you keep a pillow and toothbrush there! 🙂 Just in case! I wouldn’t want to leave …
Wow Wow Wow!!! The space looks awesome, and I really wish I lived nearby!
Congratulations on your next phase!
Dear Marian,
I am so happy for you! It’s obvious you are so ready for this “movin’ on up” chapter. I’m so excited for you and what God is doing in your life! TGBTG.
hi, marian,
as i live vicariously thru you, as you set up shop in a real brick ‘n’ mortar that is not your basement (or as in my case, your garage and/or covered patio), i was so happy to find your hemp oil and milkpaints on amazon. there is a gal locally who carries your line, but for whatever reason i couldn’t bring up the milk paint shop on her website; so Monday, as i poked around amazon, looking for silver leaf, i typed in mustard seed and there you were…..i have a very old table (a craigslist find) that i’m reworking for a friend for her craft room, and i can’t wait to give the hemp oil a try on that thirsty old wood.
thanks for all you do, and best of luck in your new ‘digs’.

So happy for you! I can imagine how wonderful it is to have all of that stuff out of your home and for your home to be “your home” again. Thanks for taking us along and showing us the new studio. Love the updates! Congrats again!
wanted to say congratulations and God answers prayer !! keep looking to Him for he is able to do exceedingly above and beyond what we can ask imagine or think ! BLESSINGS <Laurali
All I can say is WOW! What fun. I can’t believe you had all this stashed in your house. It makes me just wanna come and play with you!!!!
Out of all the awesome pics you posted, I loved the table legs the best. I had to look three times to really get my smile going. Gorgeous colors against this backdrop.
So excited for you!!!!!!!!
ADORE! So envious but happy for you! I agree with Ter’e, I Love those table legs. Vintage casters are so fun, and the colors are amazing! With all of that space, you must feel so liberated now and the creativity must just be buzzing through you!
Looking good!! The perfect next step for you~~~.
Good for all of us too 🙂 .
So happy for you that you were able to acquire this space – just beautiful. You are doing exactly what I would do if I could reinvent my life. Looking forward to your future posts.
What a wonderful space for you & your creating, as well as teaching! It just seems so clear from the outside looking in, that this was “meant to be!” You appear to be the best place there is–in the center of God’s will for your life.
I just finished (with help from hubby & son) creating a wonderful craft room/studio & although exhausted, I was exhilarated as well, organizing & putting everything in place. A combination of antiques, Elfa system & P-touch labels left the OCD organizing side of me elated!
I’m awaiting a Mon delivery of MMS hemp oil & furniture wax to put finishing touches on some treasured pieces.
May you continue to be keenly aware of God’s blessings!
Hello MMS,
I love the studio- delicious!
Instead of walls I would do a heavy muslin hanging off of those shelves. So much cheaper! I am all about doing things on the skinny! 🙂
Keep us updated~ we love seeing all of your creations!
I am so happy for you! I just have a feeling that your studio years are going to be some of the best years of your life.
Just curious if you are planning to sale the blue and white curtains. I’d be interested if so.
I love the tall cabinet with the counter in front with all the drawers. The jars look great in cabinet. Reminds me of an old general store.
TIA…Nancy
Miss Mustard Seed,
You inspire me in soooo many ways… everyday!
Thanks for being you!
You give me courage to be ME!
Congratulations on your new studio!!
Kathy
