Yesterday was all about Lucketts. I went down there to get my room ready for the open house. (Minus the sofa. Poor Ruthie was up until 3:30am on Thursday working on that thing and just couldn’t make it to Lucketts in time, so she’s bringing it early tomorrow and will help me haul it up the stairs. Talk about above and beyond.) I did have some great help today, though, and we got the place looking sparkly and ready for Christmas.
OK, I have to explain this tree topper. I know it’s ridiculous on that dinky tree. I had planned on getting a lush, live tree, but it just wasn’t going to fit and the thought of dragging it up the steps and everything that was involved just didn’t seem worth it. So, I pulled this little guy out of my basement and the paper star I had intended to use on a huge tree looks rather silly. Have a good chuckle and let’s move on.
Here are my awesome helpers…Kerry and Rachel. Aren’t they dolls? Of course, they look all cute and I was in my usual hoodie and chucks. Oh well. We had a really nice time together chatting it up.
I popped in on Karen’s room and snapped some pictures for her. It looked amazing, of course.
I ended up buying that large mercury glass pedestal and cloche from her as well as a couple of small ones. It was a real splurge, but I’ll use them a lot for my Christmas photo shoots.
I also ran into two other readers, Marian and Karen (hm, those names sound familiar), both from Utah, but not together. They were both so sweet to come to Lucketts while in the area on other business. I hope they found some goodies that will fit in their suitcases. Another reader of my blog is also working behind the counter at Lucketts now. Kasey (sp?) left her “day job” and is now doing something she’s really excited about. Good for her.
Then, we got a real treat. We were able to tour the design house, which wasn’t open to the public, yet. I have no words for how stunning it looks. I’ll just show you.
I suggest you sit down. Maybe get a cup first to catch all of your drool.
It was awesome to see it before the mob descends. I can’t wait to share all about the event and I have some other pieces of news as well.

Wow! everything looks so very Beautiful! I would never want to leave! Good Luck on the open house
I am seriously speechless (which doesn’t happen often!). How absolutely stunning! I so wish we were in the area for this event! Maybe someday!! Your room looks so lovely, and I like the tree topper; whoever buys it will have a great story to tell!!
How do I get there from Illinois? I so want to shop here. Thanks for showing us.
I am wondering how far is the town where Lucketts is from Winchester VA? I live in FL but will be in Winchester at some point soon. Is it close? THANKS!
I just did a quick Google check and it looks like you are only about 40 miles from Lucketts, I found that I am 500 miles away, bummer.
Winchester isn’t far from Lucketts at all. Probably about 30-40 minutes, but a really easy ride. Winchester is 20 minutes (give or take) from Leesburg and Lucketts is 15 minutes from there.
Yeah, it;s not too bad, Laura. You’ll have to drop by next time you’re in VA.
Hhmmm, may have to visit my aunt in Winchester!
WOW, I so wish I lived closer to Lucketts, it looks amazing, best of luck on the Open House, but I know you won’t need it, your rooom looks fantastic!! Cant wait to see more pics!! Sue
Boy, if I lived closer I’d be doing the happy dance into Lucketts to do some serious shopping. Your storefront looks clean, crisp and ready for the holiday.
Thanks for sharing! With my kids’ schedules this weekend, I won’t be able to make it so this is awesome! Some day…
Holy Cow! Those silver chairs are so amazing. Why didn’t I know about Lucketts when I lived in Richmond. Guess I’ll add another stop on our spring break trip itinerary….Best of luck Miss Mustard Seed – you have so much to offer and we are thankful for your creations and creativity.
Oh, if only I had the room!
On one of the photos (this one: DSC_4057) I saw the open storage. Could you tell me, what the these ones are called? I have been searching high and low for one of those, but as a German I don’t know what to search for exactly 🙂
thanks in advance,
Yvonne
When will the design house be open and for how long? I was able to see it in the Summer, but just by chance. How do we find the schedule? Thanks!
The design house is open the first weekend of every month, so you can come to see if during the summer. They totally redesign the place (new paint, furniture, themes, colors) each month and it’s always stuning. You can get all of the details on their website. Just click The Lucketts Store button in my sponsor section.
I’m going to have to take a trip sometime from MA to see this place in person, everything looks so lovely.
Marian ~ When will you post a tutorial on how to make those lovely paper wreaths and tree toppers? I am wanting one of those tree toppers in the worst kind of way for our tree this year. I wish I lived closer to Luckett’s – my husband on the other hand is probably glad we don’t:)
Everything looks so festive! I hope the event is a success as I know it will be….I really want to shop there so bad!
Your room looks very lovely. I like it because it has an airy and light look. I do feel that some of the other rooms are quite dark and a little too opulent and over the top! But I guess I am a more simple, farmhouse look girl at heart.
Wow, wow, wow to everything. Sigh, I wish I lived closer!
Thank you SO much for including me! I had such a great time! Your room at Lucketts looks even more incredible in person. I loved everything in there! Your photos all look amazing, especially the Design House – what an amazing place! What a fabulous day!!!
🙂 Rachael
Fabulous day indeed! Seeing the Design House when we weren’t shoulder to shoulder with a million other shoppers was quite the VIP experience 🙂 We are two lucky ducks Rach!
It was a great time, girls. Thanks for coming out to hang with me for a few hours.
I went through on the 4th and missed your high backed linen chair in these pictures. I am going back tomorrow to pick up furniture purchases and will hopefully grab that, too!
WOW! Stunning! I wish I lived closer to experience it in person. You are truly lucky to be there (sure beats a 10 x 10 space with mustard colored {no disrespect} peg board walls. Congrats and good luck. I hope it’s all that you dream of. When it’s over….get some rest. Sounds like you will need it! 🙂
That place looks so pretty! I live nearby! I am definitely stoppy in! Need a bookshelf and some side tables…
Wow!!! I love all your pictures! What a fantastic store to shop at!
Okay I was with you right up until the nest of faux owls? sitting on the toilet seat. LOL!
Your space looks fantastic, can’t wait to see Ruthie’s sofa!
sigh…sigh…sigh….wow! Sigh, wish I lived closer 🙂 Love it all! You will sell it all I am sure! So excited for you! Oh those silver chairs…gutsy..and Love them!
Please, please spill the beans on how to make that gorgeous huge paper wreath! I desperately need one over my antique oak buffet. It is so fantastically lush! Loved looking at all the eye candy…totally amazing!
Everything is gorgeous – thanks for the peek. Have a wonderful and fun open house!!!!
I am in LOVE with all the rooms! I visited Lucket’s and your room a few months back and I wish I could see it now. I will be up after christmas right before the new year. Will it still be decorated? I’d love to see it
You’ll probably catch the last bit of Christmas stuff on sale, but most vendors bring in fresh things for the new year.
Oh my word it is absolutely gorgeous there!!! I want to come visit so bad!
Goo-orgeous! Absolutely stunning. This post makes me want to drop everything, bypass Thanksgiving and deck the halls immediately!
Everything looks stunning!! Wish I had more time to sit and absorb every detail in each photo, but that will have to wait until Sunday or Monday when I can breathe again after my own craft show on Sat., as well. I KNOW you will do well with yours! Can’t wait to hear all about the hustle and bustle of the day! Best Wishes!
Your room looks great! And I love the tree topper.
To those sad about living far away, many cities have similar concepts, sometimes permanent installations, sometimes monthly. Here in Kansas City, we have the West Bottoms 1st weekend event, for instance, and there are tons of vendors selling these types of pieces. A great mix of vintage and faux–it’s all lots of fun with great prices. I’m going tonight!
I’m so surprised you still have that buffet!! If I lived closer it would totally be mine!! I fell in love with it the first time you featured it on the blog. Your room is simply gorgeous!! You keep posting these pics and there is going to be a mass of crazy blog girls descending on Virginia!!
Yeah. me too, but I am thinking about taking it home. I’m going to have the perfect spot for it soon, so i haven’t been too sad about it not selling.
Wowzas…..you are seriously some talented chics! Oh how I wish I lived REMOTELY closer to yall! Thanks for the eye candy and oodles of inspiration (as always).
Cant wait for Christmas!!
XOX
Lolo
ps – I actually like the tree topper 🙂 Reminds me of a british wedding hat!! Are you sure it isnt a replica from Will and Kates wedding?! LOL
HA! You’ll start a new fashion. 🙂
Oooooo, ooooo, wow. Thank you so much for sharing the design house, I am in South Carolina and would not be able to visit it without your fantastic photography. Thank you for sharing, and i want to just move into some of those rooms and never leave. I will be looking back at these pictures all weekend.
I so wish I lived close enough to come but alas I live in Oregon and may never get there. But sending good wishes for a great day. Love love love it.
Lovely, lovely pictures. If I weren’t up to my eyebrows in work this weekend, I’d find a way to get to VA to see your shop in person. I would love to see more pictures, especially of that sofa once it’s done.
P.S. I noticed that the link to Karen’s website is incorrect (it’s http://www/graphicsfairy.blogspot.com—there's a slash where the period should be after www).
Oh, thanks! I’ll get that fixed.
ah, I should’ve listened to you and grabbed a cup for drool. Wiping my mouth now. All of the pictures are beautiful! Wish I was close enough to pop in, though it’s probably safer to keep my distance.
WOW it all looks amazing! Wish I lived closer! Good luck this weekend!
C’est NOEL!!!! C’est trop beau!
J’adore cette ambiance des fêtes! Tu donnes plein d’idées, c’est super!
Thanks for sharing!
Have a great evening!
Those chairs covered in the metallic silver are wild! And the last room is possibly the softest coziest decor I’ve ever seen. Love these!
Loved Everything! And yes, I did drool slightly.. it’s ok. It happens alot on your site. The “silver section” was my fav by far! So lovely- OH and did I see a nest of baby owls on the toliet! Really! If that is really a working restroom… its the COOLEST by far! You are so blessed to be around such creative souls!
I hope to get up to visit by spring… until then..
love love love everything BUT….the tree topper.. it takes away from the room… pls pls take it down and find something more ….well you know.. sorry in my old age, my filter has gone missing… i love everyting you do… great job… enjoy! xo Patty
LOL…I know, I know. The problem is that I can’t stand it up. It has to be on a tree top or bottle or something!
It was so pretty! I would have been there all day had I not brought my Father with me to keep me “in line”. Your space looks great…I wanted the picture of the birds nest and the buffet but didn’t get it however I did end up with a great linen runner I can’t wait to use!
I think I am going to have to come back early tomorrow…it was ONLY a 50 minute drive and totally worth it :=)
Aren’t those linen runners lovely? I am going to get more. By the way, I meant to mark down the price of the bird’s nest painting. It’s now 50% off, so if you decide you want to get it, have the girls call me and I’ll ok the discount for you.
I just stumbled upon your website. I love it and thought you might get a kick out of mine. I’m new to blogging but an OLD hand at design. Betsy Speert
Oh how I wish I could be there! ‘Tho my wallet would suffer… and my budget but it would be worth it!
And, please post your tutorial SOON for the sheet music wreath!
Ah, I know! I will try to do it this week, now that the holiday open house is done.
You can tell I’m new to this, as I signed my name, not realizing it would appear at the top of the comment! OY!
That’s it. I’m getting on a plane. STAT!! I would lose my mind in that design house and then once I came to your room….DYING!!!
Okay, Don’t laugh or feel sorry for me, but I like your tree. Your room is fabulous, the dream house breathtaking and now I want to decorate for Christmas, oh I wish I had buckets of money to buy everything in your room!! Di
Love your room! And all the other photos! Like others have said, i so wish I lived closer! 3000 miles away in CA is just too far to convince hubby we need to go Christmas shopping there!!!
WOW…It all looks beautiful…
Hi,
MERRY CHRISTMAS…..It’s all so Merry! There is a piece of art in a room, of a man lifting his hat and hats falling down….Do you know how I may get in touch with the owner? I love that and it would look great over my piano!
Ginger, thezagnois@yahoo.com

I looks great and I’m going to drive 6 days to come see it some day…Have a fantabulous time!
Why can’t store be in San Diego!! My Christmas wish for this year is to go shopping at your beautiful store. Amazing!
Visiting Lucketts has been on my bucket list but it just moved up. It’s pretty much No. 1 now.
The ticking pillows look a little slouchy…other than that it’s all perfect. Thank you, thank you for the great pics.
Yep, we definitely need the bigger pillow forms. All of your runner sold today, so I need to order some more!
I need a Luckett’s in Michigan, Marian! lol! What an amazing place! It looks like it’s a house (?) and each dealer has their own room they rent? What a cool idea! No wonder you felt so honored to be asked to be a part of it! 🙂 Your room looks absolutely amazing. I’m in awe of the entire place!
xoxo laurie
The Design House is an old house and the store used to be a general store with living quarters on the 2nd and third floors. It was then converted in a bording house, I believe. It makes a great antique store. Tons of character!
I can only but daydream…..greetings from Australia. It is such a pleasure just looking at the pics on your blog. Luckett’s looks like my dream shopping experience and your display area is just gorgeous!
Why why why do I have to live in Cailifornia????? Your work is so wonderful!! I would love to buy one of your famous ornaments and glitter letters! Will you ever sell online?? I can only hope someday 😉
Thanks for all your inspiration , my 3 girls and I check your site everyday, they think you are a huge celebrity 🙂
Have a great weekend!
A.ma.zing! All of it!!!
I think I’ve just gone into decorating over-stimulation! Ok, I’m better now. Wow! Your space looks fab, Karen’s space looks fab, the Design House – I almost didn’t make it passed the pics of the porch! Did you see those chairs??? To die for :::thud::: Karen’s is always the first place I go once inside Lucketts and I’ve purchased most of my items from her. Now I can run up the stairs to your space as well! I can’t wait to get there this weekend! This is always the best Design House – really perks me up and puts me in a festive mood! Hope you have a successful weekend – what am I saying? Is there anything left from today? LOL Hugs, Leena
Wow – it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! And I love your tree topper, Marian – doesn’t look too big to me, although I could never be accused of not being over the top myself. Everything is just beautiful – I hope this weekend is a successful one for you and that you enjoy all the fruits of your hard labor! Wish I could be there to experience it all myself!
Blessings!
WOW, you weren’t kidding! I’m going to have to buy a new keyboard it’s full of drool-I was like a St. Bernard!! What a absolutely gorgeous place-I can see why they ask YOU to be a part of the store-you are a perfect fit!! Congratulations. Your Christmas displays left me feeling calm and peaceful!
Stunning and stimulating! Beautiful!
WoW! It looks great. I want to come shopping!
Happy Holidays {is it too early to say that?}!
Total eye candy, and total dedication. Your hard work shows, and thank you for always going the next step in posting beautiful photos. Your space will be cleaned out soon, so be prepared to re-stock!!
The nest on the loo seat is priceless! The metallic chairs are stellar!
Wow! It’s just beautiful. I even googled how long a drive it would be… 8.5 hours! I used to drive that often in my 20s… I’d love to get to that area to visit some high school friends and drool all over your room! Thanks for the beautiful pictures… you’re such a great photographer! I have found I’m better at simulating real life in Photoshop, than taking real pics. (it’s harder than it looks!)
Oh, my! How I wish I could find an excuse to travel the many miles from Seattle. The polar bear room is like a childhood fantasy. And of course I found something I must have!! Does Luckett’s do shipping? 😀
P.S. your room is simply stunning, Miss MS.! How could anyone not want that nest picture for so long that you are marking it down? I love it and that colt picture in the feather room in the design house. Your arrangement of muted whites incorporating the nest picture is so soothing.
I was at Luckett’s today for the holiday open house and it was stunning! Everything was so festive and I had a hard time deciding what to get. I loved your room and I got several of your glitter ornaments and the sheet music tree along with a few other fun items. What an awesome time 🙂
Looking gorgeous, girl!
I love Lucketts! We have been stopping there for years now on the way home from visiting my Brother-in-law in Fairfax,VA. Actually got an old metal crib that I have on my front porch now as a daybed. We use it all summer and fall to read at night. Amazing job on the room. So, So, cozy and nostalgic.
Kim
Hello!
I have been a follower for a few months now and want to congratulate you on making the decision to downsize to the smaller room at Lucketts. One cannot do everything and you are so talented, you will be able to streamline and do beautifully even in a smaller place at Lucketts. Best of luck on everything and thank you for your wonderful blog, your tutorials and your inspiration.
Warm regards,
Elisabeth
Wow, everything looks so gorgeous! I really, really, really wish I could see it all in person. Sounds like downsizing is the right choice for you now, given how full your plate is. You still need time to enjoy all of the amazing things you do!
Thanks for the look at the rest of Lucketts. I must say your space is my favorite though.
Wow, so much beauty in one place! You’re lucky if you get to go to Luckett’s! (Yes, I slay myself!) Your room really is the prettiest – it has that serene beauty that really typifies your look- Love it!
Oh my goodness, Marian! Your room looks absolutely stunning. I am so inspired. And all the other spaces are gorgeous as well. I need to e-mail you later today to ask you something about your Christmas tree skirt from last year. Hope you are having a beautiful Sunday!
I soooooooooo love it! Everything is so bright and magical!
“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!” That place looks like it’s something that is right up my alley. Might have to drive there by way of White’s Ferry and see it. howIs the weekends the best time to come? Are all the rooms totally Christmas merchandise? Do you know far Luckett’s Store is from White’s Ferry Rd. in Leesburg?
Any Traditional furnishings or French Provencial furniture or shabby chic rooms?
Lucketts is very close to White’s Ferry…just a few miles north on Rt. 15. I think you would love Lucketts. There is lots of Frenchy furniture and chippy pieces and romantic chandeliers that could work in a Shabby Chic home. Some rooms are decorated to the hilt for Christmas and other aren’t. A lot of the Christmas stuff was cleared out during the open house, but there will certainly be some left. They are open daily from 10-5.
My friend and I drove from eastern MD bay area to Leesburg just for the open house! 2 1/2 hours later, many laughs, and we finally made it… an hour before closing. Ugh. However, we did get to go through the house and the store quickly. I loved your room! You were quite picked over by the time we made it there. I did get an ornament just to say I had an official piece of MMS merchandise. It was all I could do not to purchase the Swiss Miss. I would have, but I had no way to get her home. 🙁 Thanks for the inspiration you give everyday in your blog! I read your posts everyday.
You mentioned in an earlier post of a store that helps with shipping of the Annie Sloan paint. Could you repost that name or website?
Love your BLOG!!!
Hmmm…I’m not sure I remember that. There are lots of stockists who ship, so you should find the one closest to you. Just click on the chalk paint button in my sponsor section.
Oh!! Everything is so gorgeous. I wish I could have been there. Such beautiful things. I will be looking these over and over again and dreaming and planning.
Ruth
I was wondering if the birds nest print in your booth sold, and if not what is the price? Could it be shipped? Your booth always looks amazing in your photos. Maybe one weekend I talk my husband into watching my son and me and girlfriend make a long weekend trip up there.
AAAAAAHHHHH something told me this was the Lucketts that I know! living with parents in leesburg and frederick we drove through this quaint little town every other weekend and i would beeeeeeg my dad to stop at the shops that looked like houses. i would spend hours in there as a middle school kid, all the handmade quilts and perfectly decorated rooms inspired me and i still think of that place even today. now that i live on the west coast it’s crazy to see that that town is still a hidden spot to enjoy handmade wares and inspiring interior design. design on miss mustard seed!
