Today was a typical day in the life of an antiques dealer. Tag items, load the van, drive to the shop, clean, fluff and reload the room…just my normal weekly routine.  Here’s how the room looks now…

(See the newly finished top on the dresser?)

As I was leaving, I noticed a little message in the bottom corner of my magnetic chalk board.

I love a good sense of humor.  Is this a statement about my room?   Anyway, it made me smile as I was melting in the humidity and weary after hauling everything up to my third floor room.  It also reminded me that I need to make more “A’s.”
Yesterday I finished my Cottages & Bungalows photo shoot for the October issue.  Here’s a peek…

I rounded out the day by having dinner with my husband followed by public humiliation in a Zumba class.  I just kept telling myself it’s all about the workout and not about the fact that my hips won’t move at all the way the instructor’s hips do.  Oh well…we all have our gifts…

  1. You are too funny! Yes, more "A"s indeed. Zumba was quite embarrassing for me as well, the first few times, but boy oh boy, is it fun! Shake it girl.

  2. wowsas!!! everything keeps looking so yummy. i hope someday i can go to lucketts or at least call them up and order things from your gorgeous photos.
    thanks again mms. xow.

  3. I spy…the green cheese boxes you featured on a recent blog post. Your space is just dreamy and beautiful. Thanks for posting pictures of it so that when you write about it we have an image of it in our mind. Yeah…I went to Zumba ONE TIME…so embarrasing…I hope I never see anyone in that class again.

  4. Your room looks great, and I started taking zumba last week. I had my 2nd class today, and no – my hips don't move like that either. 🙂

  5. That looks absolutely fantastic, I wish I could come and have a browse!!

Good on you for going to a zumba class…..I bought zumba dvds and I am just so unco-ordinated its ridiculous lol. Still they are lots of fun and at least I'm moving, in some way lol.

  6. Looks fabulous! The dresser looks terrific. I like the stained top with the chippy bottom. Kinda like me.

Look the way I see it, you get more exercise climbing up and down and up and down those stairs at Lucketts. (Oh and I tried Zumba in the privacy of our den and THANK GOODNESS cause it wasn't pretty)

  7. Wow! If I'm ever up your way I will make it a point to stop by your store! 😉 Love it all, but I really love that vintage fan. I've been looking for one.

  8. Your "room" looks great! I LOVE that dresser! And as for the Zumba class, I haven't tried it myself, but I have a friend who just did it for the first time and said she's never felt so "white" in all her life 😉

  9. Hi Marian, your post today made me smile. Just when I needed it to, thanks. xx
I love your space at Luckett's right now, it looks fab! If only I lived over that side of the world, not Sydney, and I would be there like a shot..buying a few irresistable bits and pieces, and most definately that glass cloche..looks just the right size to cover a single cupcake 🙂

  11. Ohhh boy I would truly think I was in heaven if I ever could see your store in real life. I DROOL every single day when I check your blog—but really if I ever made the multi state trek I would have to have a million dollars on hand…. because I don't think I could leave anything behind! Oh and is it completely dorky that I would love to own a "Miss Mustard Seed" piece of furniture not only because I would adore it beyond words, but also because I am a completely and totally huge fan?? Ahhh someday!

  12. your room is just beautiful. I want to come sit in it and relax. 🙂

and good for you going to zumba!!! Im scared to go- although, they have it for the wii so im thinking about getting it.

yesterday I did one of the insanity workouts. holy cow. im sore today!

  13. marian, gorgeous, just love all the goodies! and just wondering about the lavender you sell….where do you get it? just posted a little blurb about drying your own lavender, in case any readers are interested 😉
have tried the zumba, so fun, what a workout and as a latina, i'm quite disappointed that even my hips don't move the way they're supposed to!
    bisous xoxo

  14. I love the name of your post. I haven't heard that expression in a while. One can't help themselves but smile.

    Your showroom is amazing!

    Huba! Huba! Indeed!

  15. I am so glad I don't live an hour closer or I think I would go broke buying everything in your space! Good luck with Zumba – I keep hearing about it. I really need to get my uncoordinated behind into shape.

  16. Your room looks great, very inviting and yay for Zumba [regardless of the hip movements 😉 ], best workout ever!

  17. Goodness…I just noticed that you became one of my followers…I'm honored to have you.
Your blog is beautiful and your shop is one I have on my list of places to visit next time I'm in PA…which normally is quite often.
Thanks so much for joining me.

  18. The room looks spectatular! Wonder job.
I want to tell you I love your blog and find inspiration each day. After a year of dealing with breast cancer, I am starting over. Your blog has inspired me to be creative again. Something I lost for a while. I am also working out by riding my road bike with my husband. I hear you on how hard it is to start over. It is a challenge, but huffing and puffing we will both get there.
As far as the Zumba class …It is a hard place to start- so be very proud of yourself!

  19. I love your space! It looks great! Don't be so hard on your self in Zumba- you are out there, doing it! That's huge! You always make me laugh though! You are inspiring me too.

  20. Marian,

Hubba. Hubba. Gorgeous display of treasures!

You are loading and unloading a van. Melting in the humidity and weary after hauling everything up to my third floor room.

    You don't need Zumba.

    You already do ROOMBA!

    Your Friend,
    Deborah

  21. Your room looks great! I love that big table in the center of the room. As a fellow dealer, "I hear ya sister"! We are just recovering from a great weekend at Barn House and getting ready for a Street Faire! Tons of work and tons of fun!!!

Now about that Zumba… Nice work! 🙂

  22. It looks awesome! The green dresser adds a lot to the room too! Thanks so much for posting about the paints too! And I can't wait to try them and the waxes!

    Sheila

  23. So good to have a "face" with the space!! I've been going to Luckette's for years. Where is your space from Ted's? Or Pat's (Twig House)? One of my very favorite shops!!! Ya all are so creative!!! I usually Summer in PA,Winter in TX. First year I stayed in TX for Summer. Way too hot!!!!

  24. Marian the room looks awesome! Just wondering, does the old radiator actually work? Even if it does, you could probably find an old piece of granite or soap stone, or even make a concrete counter top for it. It would give you a little more display space, plus, they just look really cool as little tables. Even if the heater is a working one, it could still be made into a table. Just a thought. I love that new green dresser, it is gorgeous!

  25. Oh my goodness! I want to LIVE in your room! It is so gorgeous – from the paint on the walls to the goodies inside – i just love everything!

  26. Marian, what a gift you have. I love the room and it is really filling up. I am eyeing that fan in there. Love those old fans…I am disabled and do not live far from Lucketts. May just have to crawl up those stairs and take a look. Thanks for giving me a "little piece of heaven" every day. Blessings to you.

  27. Beautiful, beautiful feathered napkin ring! The deep colors pop a wow! Don't you love the "pre" before the "aww" in the antiques business? The love is in the labor! Great style & staging.

  28. I love your room. I wish I lived closer so I can go drink in the goodness.

Don't give up on Zumba. I can guarantee that no one is even looking at you, they are focused only on themselves (and the instructor) I am so addicted to it-I go twice a week right now.

  29. Awh! I doubt your dance moves looked as bad as you think…anyway, after a few classes under your belt, your hips will be swing'n with the best of them! Then you'll be hearing 'huba, haba' not reading it.
you just gotta get everything all loosened up a bit 🙂

I knew that little green gem of a dresser would turn out divine. I like the lighter stain on the top.

  30. gorgeous. I am hoping to find a space to sell my stuff. weighing the pros and cons of shows vs. a permanant space….hmmm…
I am a Zumba fanatic!! I promise, you need to give it a few tries- don't give up on it. Pretty soon all the moves will start to become familiar. Just have fun and know you are burning a ton of calories. I've learned that if you treat your bum like a mixer, scraping the bottom of the bowl, you will get that hip roll down 😉

  31. One of my favorite sayings is "we all have gifts some of us just open them later than others". Hang in there.

  32. oh.my.goodness. it's lovely! i have been following your blog for quite some time, but just started officially "following" i am in love with everything you do. i wish i lived closer so i could come visit your store because i can guarantee i would become a regular customer 🙂
