I apologize for missing FFF last night!  My site was down, which you might have noticed if you were trying to link up.  So, we’ll suspend our furniture link party until after the holidays.  Just save up those furniture projects for a couple of weeks.

A few months ago, I bought a caned French daybed from a used furniture shop. I think I paid $175 for it and it was in amazing condition with a full down cushion!  The upholstery wasn’t bad at all, but it was a yellowish-gold with a metallic shimmer to it, which isn’t really my thing.  The cane was all intact and the finish was nice, so I knew I wanted to leave those alone.  I did, however, want to reupholster it.

I presented a few fabric options and was planning on going with the plain hemp fabric, but then did a “room reset” and changed my mind.  The buffalo check was now perfect to go with the new leather sofa and new plan for the family room.

family room collage

We moved the daybed to the basement to make way for the Christmas tree, so it was the perfect time to get the upholstery work done.  I wasn’t planning on working on it until after Christmas, but it got bumped to the top of the list when the sofa delivery was delayed a few weeks.  We needed a place to sit until then…especially since we’re hosting Christmas this year.

I’ve never done upholstery or slipcovers in a check pattern, so I had to learn along the way, but I’m really pleased with how the pattern lines up.  It’s not perfect, but it’s pretty darn close.

I used a smaller coordinating check fabric to make the piping.  (Actually, my mom made it during one of our “work nights.”)

I love how the buffalo check plays against the dark wood and the caning and it looks great against the new heathered jute rug.

The daybed looks so pretty when it’s all fluffed, but since the pillows and cushions are all down/feather blends, anyone who sits in it leaves a nice imprint of their rear and it immediately looks slouchy and messy.  So, this is better used as an “occasional” sofa and sometimes as pillow-war ammo and for fort-building.

A few people have asked about the source of the buffalo check and, unfortunately, I think it’s discontinued.  My aunt, who is a talented designer, gave it to me out of her stash.  I am trying to find something similar, though, and haven’t found one that’s quite the right blue.  This one from Calico Corners is very promising, but I haven’t ordered a swatch, yet.   The thing I really like about the fabric from my aunt is that it has a nice texture to it, so it’s not flat, cheap-looking fabric.  I wish I could find more of the exact thing!  I’ll let you know if I find a good substitute.

I’m also sorry to say that I didn’t make a tutorial on this one.  I had to sort of figure out the upholstery as I went along and I messed up in a few places, but it all worked out and the mistakes I made are hidden by the cushion.  And I can live with that.  I’m not a person who gets all twitchy knowing that something isn’t right under the cushion that I’m currently making an imprint in.  I have a few more upholstery and slipcover projects on my list, so I’ll make some photo and video tutorials when I work on those.

Lastly, I wanted to show my new hair color and efforts at makeup.  (This picture isn’t touched up, FYI, and doesn’t have any filters, so that is my real eye color.)

I only have my hair colored 2-3 times a year and that seems to be enough to keep it looking nice.  We don’t do an all-over color, so it looks natural as it grows out.  My stylist, Mary, does highlights and low lights to give the color some umph and dimension.  Naturally, my hair is a very ashy blonde and it tends to wash me out, but it makes a good base color for the highlights and low lights.

I wanted to go darker, but I do like the chunky highlights around my face, so Mary did the coolest trick.  She colored my hair, so that when I part it one way it’s darker and the other way, it shows more highlights.  I’ll have to show a side-by-side, so you can see what I mean.  She cut my hair, so it would part well on both sides also.  I’m wearing it parted on the “wrong side” most of the time, since it hides my cowlick and sweeps across my forehead better.

If you’re local and want to have Mary do your hair, you can find her at Serenity Salon & Spa in Gettysburg, PA.  Just tell her you read about her on Marian’s blog and she’ll give you 10% off your first visit.  (I didn’t receive anything to share this, by the way.  She is a great stylist and an entrepreneur I want to support.)

As far as makeup, I’ve been really been trying step up my game.  I had to take makeup classes as a part of my theatre degree, but knowing how to put on fake beards and make it look like I have a fresh black eye doesn’t help me out much when it comes to every day makeup!  I’m dealing with fine lines and blemishes all at one time, so it’s a real challenge!  My skin actually looks better in this picture, even though it’s not touched up, because the photo is slightly overexposed.

I’m still trying different products and I’m figuring out what I like, but I’ll let you know when I find the magic combination.  I am wearing makeup every day and that really does make a difference in how I feel about myself and it’s nice to be ready to pick up a sick kid from school or sign for a package without having to slap something on, so I don’t look like I just rolled out of bed.

I usually get some spending money for Christmas and I think most of it will go towards clothes and makeup.  If anyone has any miracle products to share, please feel free!

Oh, and an update about my fitness journey is coming soon…

      Marion,
You look fabulous, you are an inspiration!

    2. Margaret

My daughters and I really like the Urban Decay makeup products. Their eye palletes are great for every day- the best part if for me is that their makeup stays on all day! And, yay on the checked daybed cushion. It’s so lovely. Merry Christmas!

    3. Stacy

You look great! I’m the same way about wearing make-up. I love Mac products and if you want to they will give you a little make-over and show you how to apply things. If you search for Pixi woo on youtube they have a lot of great tutorials. They have some amazing ones for blue eyes! And they tell you exactly what they’re using to get the result.

    4. Tamie

I swear by a BB or CC cream. I’m not a foundation wearer, but my face could use a light coverage, and my Clinique CC cream does the trick and makes my skin feel great.

    5. Emily

At 30, I just figured out how to apply makeup properly.. lol. I love Urban Decay eye shadows, Bare Minerals powder, Merle Norman full coverage foundation and concealer, stila eye liner and Lancome mascara. Kate from the small things blog has the best make up and hair advice. If you don’t already follow her, I suggest you check out her blog. 🙂

      • Susan

Thanks for the tip about checking out the Small Things blog. Kate’s tutorials are so easy to follow. I had an epiphany…it’s not my hair that I hate…it’s that I never really learned how to style it properly. The blogging community is so supportive with sharing their talents. Not only have I learned so much from Marion, but I am learning from her followers as well!

    6. Cindy Brown

Your new darker hair color makes those beautiful blues of yours POP!!!! Looking really pretty, Marian! Merry Christmas!

    7. Yvonne Cannon

You look amazing!! I absolutely love the daybed as well!
Wishing you and your family a Very Blessed
      Christmas!!!

    8. Abby

Smashbox Photo Finish primer is the best beauty product out there. I’ve used the “light” and the “green.” It evens out your skin for your foundation or BB or CC cream. It helps the makeup to stay all day as well. You have beautiful eyes btw! Merry Christmas!

      • Miss Mustard Seed

Yes! I’m wearing their blemish control primer and have a sample of the CC Cream in light over that as a foundation. I like the way it looks, but is that the way CC cream is supposed to be used? Am I breaking some cosmetic rule?! 🙂

        • Camille @ Chez Moi

Rules, schmules! If you like the way it looks and feels, then THAT is the way it should be used! You look (and your gorgeous day bed) look great! PS My fav mascara is Cover Girl’s Flamed Up. It’s magical stuff. And to take it all off at the end of the day, I love Josie Maran’s Argan Oil Cleanser. Seems counter intuitive to use oil to cleanse, but my pores have never been happier!

          • Lori

First off, I LOVE TALKING ABOUT PRODUCTS!!!

Forget the rules about stuff like that. BB/CC Cream is wonderful. I do not spend money on “color” (eyeshadow, eyeliner, and such) because I like to experiment. I do invest in skincare and would encourage you to do the same.

I am in love with Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate as well as their Overnight Biological Peel. Don’t worry, it is not a peel as in one you get that makes your skin all red and tender. This is simply a light exfoliator in a serum. Cetafil cleanser and a good moisturizer. I have tried NARS blush and love it, but it is no better than my Cover Girl that is almost the exact same shade and much less money. MAC Studio Fix powder makeup is wonderful if you do not want to wear foundation (which I do not). YSL Touche Eclat is a wonderful concealer, but the price will scare you ($40). I am still looking for a good concealer that will not send me into bankruptcy. I am really liking LORAC mascara.

If you are looking for a good brand that you can stick to, Bobbi Brown is hard to beat. She focuses on skincare and make up that enhances what you have as opposed to making a woman look like the latest accessory to the local street corner. Her makeup brushes are also wonderful. I splurged on them and have not regretted it.

Sorry for the book on your blog. I do hope this helps. Merriest of Christmases to you and your family.

    9. cassie

aaaaah i love it in the buffalo check! gorgeous! and love the makeup- especially the lips. they are soft and let the eyes stand out.

    10. Sybil

      Love the hair color…very sophisticated!

    11. Ashley

Where did you get (or get the fabric for) the beautiful throw pillow on the couch!?

      • Ashley

Sorry I didn’t clarify…I’m referring to the beautiful pillow with the bird.

    12. Krista

I love your hair. 🙂 My favorite foundation is by Urban Decay and it is called Naked Skin. I have freckles so it doesn’t cover them up all the way but gives me an even tone on my skin without feeling like I am wearing a mask. I get it at Sephora or Ulta.

    13. Kelly Vossen

You did a great job on the couch, and I LOVE YOUR HAIR COLOR!!! Lookin’ Good Miss Marion!!

    14. Kim Esser

Hair color is pretty. You have beautiful skin. Plum eyeshadow will make your eyes pop and a rosy pink gloss will give your lips nice color. I’m a makeup artist. You also would look beautiful with some red auburn hightights added to the mix. Just a thought.

    15. Kim Esser

Love the daybed and your website

    16. Vicki K

Marian! Your hair looks so great–I knew about highlights but now I finally get lowlights. They are so flattering on you. The bottom photo is my new fav of you. Thank you for all the inspiration yet again. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

    17. Patti G

I love your blue buffalo check cushions, and they do pop against
the brown tones. Sort of like your eyes and hair. Loved the similarities of this
      post.
You are as beautiful on the outside as your heart on the inside.
We are all blessed to have you cross our journey in this life.
Merry Christmas sweet girl, blessings to you and yours.

    18. Darlene

I swear by Mary Kay Cosmetics !!! Find a rep on their website and she’ll come to you and give you a personal makeover – matching your foundation to you skin tone, and different looks you can try without purchasing it first.

The French daybed is so pretty with the checks! You are so talented! Also, I love your new hair color – it is very natural looking!

    19. Pat

YUR SO CUTE…..AND TALENTED TOO!!!! 🙂
MERRY “CHRIST”MAS TO YU AND YURS!!!

    20. brittanyMakes

Love the daybed! Railroading patterns can be SO DIFFICULT. I’ve failed more times than I want to share. Also, check out the Bobbi Brown counter next time you go to the mall. I swear by their makeup, it’s perfect to achieve that natural “i’m not wearing makeup but my skin looks absolutely perfect” look. Oh, and Katy Holmes and Kate Middleton wear it 😛

    21. Talitha

The daybed looks fantastic! I don’t know anything about sewing, so I’m very impressed with all the beautiful work you and your Mom do! It makes me want to learn to sew!

    22. Nikki Panza

Marian let me start by telling you that you look absolutely beautiful! Whatever you are doing continue!
Also, I am a makeup artist and hairstylist as well as a furniture flipper. I have tried ever product under the sun professional and the stuff you get at the grocery store. The best foundation is Mac. They have different kinds but I like the powder. It covers amazingly without feeling like you have anything on. It makes a beautiful finish. Mac stores are squally in Macy’s. I wouldn’t try ordering online since u won’t know if it matches. Go to the store and let them apply it. It is a little pricey but lasts a really long time. Let me know if you try it!

    23. Elizabeth Marshall

A great skin care routine was something I was always searching for, but didn’t know how to achieve…I spent years testing different products and wasting my money, until I worked in Dermatology for a few years. Now I understand the science behind it all and ended up with a great system that’s simple, inexpensive, and it works great for my pale, Scottish, combination skin! (and I stay out of the sun!) I use it day and night, (using the retinol at night only) and everything works together BEAUTIFULLY.
      1. Cerave foaming facial cleanser
      2. Paula’s Choice RESIST Advanced Replenishing Toner
      3. Paula’s Choice RESIST Daily Smoothing Treatment with 5% AHA
      4. Olay Regenerist Regenerating Serum
      5. Cerave Moisturizing Lotion with SPF for day time
      6. Night time only…Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Cream with Retinol
Everything can be found at your local drugstore except the Paula’s Choice products. (Her name is Paula Begoun, otherwise known as the “cosmetic cop”…she’s written many books on skincare and finally came up with her own line based on the science of skin! Google her!)
I’m finally happy with my skin and how it looks and feels now! Thought I’d share since it’s such an economical system to try AND it works!

    24. Jenny E

I’ve been trying to step up my game with makeup too. Go to Ulta and try on a bunch of their stuff. My teen daughter and I love Urban Decay Naked palettes for the eyes. Add the eyelid primer underneath and your eyes will last all day! I like the bare minerals for powder/foundation and blush instead if liquid. But that’s just me. If helps to have a teenage daughter who watches all the YouTube videos and Pinterest tutorials on makeup for me. Then she tells me what to get. 🙂
      Love the hair!

    25. Jeannine

Look at how the hair color makes your blue eyes pop! Love it.

    26. Susan B.

I love your hair!! It’s perfect!
      The make-up looks fantastic!
      The daybed is fab-o!
Merry Christmas to you & your family!

    27. Tina

Girl, you look soo skinny(in a good way) will you share your work out routine ? Looking beautiful and radiant!

    28. tammy

The hair color is perfect and makes your eyes “sing.”

    29. Tania Russell

If there’s one thing I can’t live without, it’s Cle de Peau concealer. Prepare yourself for the price–it’s like $70. But it lasts a long time because you only need a touch. and this stuff is magic—under eye circles, redness, sun-spots, blemishes–POOF! GONE! It blends beautifully and evens out the skin so that you don’t need to use as much or as heavy of a foundation.

I have lots of other faves, but that’s my #1 skin secret!

LOVE the hair. At some point, when I get some gumption, I’m going to try to go short like that too! you wear it so well!

      • Lori

I have been wanting to try their products, but the price scared me away. I thought YSL was bad. Wow!! I may have to treat myself to this one though because I have really dark circles under my eyes. Thank you for the recommendation. Merry Christmas!

      • Peggy

Do you know the return policy? I have terrible problems finding makeup as I am allergic to the majority on the market, especially the “non-allergenic” varieties. At almost 49, I have olive skin with freckles (italian mother, scot/irish/english dad) and am beginning to see uneven skin tones/sunspot.

        Thank you!

    30. julie

LOVE your new hair color!! And you have beautiful eyes!

I know this post isn’t about your new rug (!) but I was wondering if you could tell me if it’s soft or at least soft-ish? I’m looking for something neutral for my living room, but like something that also feels good underfoot. Thanks!

    31. Charity@Dandelion Farmhouse

I love the addition of brown to the room palette, and the sofa is great! You did an awesome job, surely you already knew that!

    32. Wendy

Oh the daybed is perfect! Love it. Your hair compliments your beautiful blue eyes!

Merry Christmas to you and your family. Peace and good health for 2014!

    33. Debbie Byrd

LOVE this post, as I was reading through some of the comments, I saw one that said perfectly what I’d like to say, and it was by someone named Patti G. I ‘ditto’ her 110%!!!! Merry, Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones…and thank you for ALL you give us. Love, Debbie

    34. Sue

I love your new daybed! I think you did such a nice job on it. I admire how fast you whip things up.

Your hair color is nice. As far as makeup. I use a product called Emani. You can order from their website, but I love that it’s organic and mineral based. It is the best I’ve used so far. It feels like I’m not wearing any, which is the way I like it 😀

    35. Sue @ bebeandj

A friend of mine (in Bethlehem PA – so not too far from you) started her own makeup line. Her product is amazing, all natural and good for your skin. Her name is Carmen and the line is called Beauty Alibi. She has a shop or you can order online http://beautyalibi.com

Let me know if you try it and like it!

I also love your daybed btw – I have a similar one with a matching chair and I had the reupholstery redone in a off white cordorouy-like material. My caning is not in as good a shape as yours (a few small holes) but it is really comfortable and pretty.

      Happy Holidays!

      Sue

    36. Mary Stewart

Okay Girly Girl, how much weight have you lost! Your face looks really thin, but in a good way! Love the daybed too! Happy Holiday to you and your family/crew 🙂

    37. Sue @ bebeandj

A friend of mine started her own makeup line. Her products are amazing, all natural and good for your skin. The coverup is the best I have ever used and I have tried a bunch. She has a shop in Bethlehem, PA or you can visit her website http://beautyalibi.com

Let me know if you decide to try her products and how you like them if you do!

      Happy Holidays!

      Sue

    38. Kerry Smith

Love the Daybed!! It looks fantastic. You did an amazing job on matching up those checks. They could drive a person to drink, trying to get them right. I love the piping in the different sized check. Great idea. Love love love. So glad I found you. You are so inspirational to me.And you look fantastic too! Merry Christmas Marion.
      Thanks Kerry

    39. K Thaman

I love love love your daybed and the material seems like it was meant to be for it!! Can’t wait to see a tutorial so I can learn how to do that too. Like the hair color too, she does a fabulous job! I guess I will put my two cents in on the makeup, I use bare minerals, it seems to be just enough to make my face look natural and its light and comfortable. That powder and a little blush is just right for me everyday.
      Merry Christmas!!

    40. Jessica @ Dear Emmeline

looking good lady! plus that sofa’s pretty pretty too! Great job!

    41. Danielle

Beautiful, Marian! You and your day bed. Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas! x

    42. Laurie McLaughlin

The buffalo check looks great on the daybed.
There is a look of determination in your face that wasn’t apparent before!

    43. Jelena

Marian, that sofa really turned out great! I also love the white trim on the front. It sort of “softens” the check pattern.

As for your new hair color, It looks really good. I think I even like it better than your lighter blonde. The new color has some honey warmth in it, which makes it look very natural.

    44. Pamela @ Flower Patch Farmhouse

I love buffalo check, I redid an ancient lazy boy rocking recliner in a green buffalo check, my mom gave it to me , it was my favorite chair as a teen (I am 50 now so you do the math on this chairs age). It was a bear to reupholster as getting those lines to match up was more than I had bargained for but it looks great. You did a fab job on your daybed.
As for make up, I am in to all natural and good for my skin products. I fell in love with Bare Escentuals Mineral make up over 10 years ago and I still love it. It has been a godsend for my problem skin. I am also fair and blue eyed and this make up has a natural SPF to protect our sensitive skin without chemicals. If natural and healthy is your game then this is the product for you.

    45. Alice

Marian, you look sooo pretty….Love the hair color and your skin is also very pretty… The buffalo check is very nice…I’m a buffalo check person, anyway…I’m always drawn to anything that is buffalo check… Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year…

    46. Ashley

Marian I am astounded by your talent and how much you are able to get done. You are truly an inspiration! On the beauty note, I too fight against fine lines and blemishes. I have started using concealer for under eye circles and uneven patches and glo-minerals pressed base powder. I spritz that lightly with a MAC fix spray which is expensive but lasts forever. That keeps the power from looking powdery and makes it look like my skin. Add a bit of color on cheeks, light swipe of eyeliner and a dash of mascara and in 5 minutes I am ready. Like you, I have short hair and light eyes and I like to let them do the talking instead of the makeup. Slightly more liner and a deeper shade of lipstick turns the same process into a dressier or evening look. Also that powder is easy to reapply and I poured some of that spray into tiny bottle to take with me – it is also a great way to freshen up on the go!

    47. Peggy Thal

You look wonderful. Love that you wear makeup everyday and want to feel better. I wear makeup everyday since I was 15. I feel I am always ready to go anywhere at all times. I still remember once not getting pretty and I had an emergency. Felt awful- even put lipstick on in the car. Enjoy your blog. Merry Christmas!

    48. Lisa

Marian, I have the same weird lip chemistry you do…reds always turn pink on me, and a few years back, I finally realized I’m not meant to wear red (or any dark) lipstick at all. I stick to light/neutral colors and put the emphasis on my eyes.

The color you’re wearing on your lips in this post is FABULOUS…when you go darker with your lips, it’s just too much, and can tend to look harsh, the way it does on me. I think you should keep your lips very light/neutral and highlight your eyes with some shadow, mascara and even eyeliner sometimes. You are starting to really find your own look and blossom! I’m sure it feels wonderful!

    49. cheapdiva

Find 1 great lipstick and wear it no matter what! My favorite is stashed in my office, my car, my purse and home. As an aging white woman (our lips thin as we age), it brightens my face and makes me look “made up” even when I am not – which is often.

Go try various lipsticks and wear them before you buy them – ask for samples at the make-up counter. Mine is an Aveda product because it does NOT dry out my lips. It has enough color to notice but not so much that you wonder if I forgot to put the rest of my make up on!!

    50. Miriam

Marian, Get yourself a sample of Rose Mask by Fresh Cosmetics. They will give you one in Sephora. Try it and see if that helps. I exfoliate & mostly use Lancome skincare, Dior BB cream & mostly Mac, BB, UD, Nars, Dior & Bare Minerals for make up. For a full coverage foundation, the new Bare Essentials pressed powder foundation w/ the brush is fabulous.

    51. Pamela

Marian, you truly sparkle! What a wonderful guiding light you are to so many of us!
I’m one of those “Who made that gorgeous buffalo check?” people. Your daybed looks lovely. Even if there are a few “learning” spots hidden under cushions. A perfect metaphor for all of us, don’t you think?
I’m still searching for my perfect blue buffalo, hoping to find the holy grail in NYC next month. If I do I’ll be sure to buy extra to share with you!

    52. Courtney

I, too am in my 30’s and dealing with wrinkles and blemishes. I’ve had skin trouble all my life. It’s funny how when you go through a trail in life it can sometimes make you an expert on it. I found that to be the case with my skin and I can tell you from experience, the single best thing you can do is exfoliate twice a week. No more. No less. That’s the perfect amount. Use a good quality exfoliant. I like Arbonne. It’s made a huge difference for me!!! That’s all I got 🙂 Good luck! And good for you for making yourself beautiful everyday!

    53. Stephanie

I adore the buffalo check. It coordinates perfectly.
If you are looking for makeup/hair/style information this is my favorite place to get it- I absolutely love Cara’s blog- http://www.maskcara.com/. Her tutorials on highlighting and contouring have completely changed how I think about makeup and how I apply it. She even has her own line she created just for this which I’m looking forward to trying! Hope this helps 🙂

    54. Courtney

OOPS! I meant trial not trail, hahaha!

    55. Stephanie

I LOVE the Maskcara blog- tons of great makeup/hair/style advice. Definitely check out highlighting and contouring tutorials for makeup. It has completely changed how I approach and apply makeup and makes skin look radiant 🙂

      • Maureen

I love Maskcara, too… her before and afters are so inspiring!

    56. Vanna

You look beautiful! And I love the hair! Vanna

    57. Nancy

The daybed turned out awesome!! And love the hair color!! Really brings out your eyes.

    58. Linda Shoemaker

Bare esentuals which is done with a brush and is mineral make up is the BEST.
Pricey but I have rosacea and after 20 yrs with clinique what the dermatologist recommedned. Most people cannot even tell I have it.

    59. Mary Jacques

You are very pretty! I love your hair and eyebrows and eye make-up. Your skin looks like it’s in really great shape too. I also, at this stage in my life have the fine lines/blemish issue. If I wear a moisturizing make-up for my fine lines, it causes blemishes and if I use an oil-free foundation, it looks like I’m wearing a clay mask! On top of it all, my skin is sensitive to fragrance. I’m sure everyone has heard of mineral make-up. I don’t know if you’ve tried it yet, but, I love it! I’m not a make-up rep or anything, so I’m not going to mention any specific brands, Actually, every brand of mineral make-up I’ve used works great. The only trick is to find the right color. It hides my rosacea, and blemishes. And it’s actually good for your skin. It looks more natural than liquid foundation and deflects the appearance of large pores, I hope this helps! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Mary @ Boogieboard Cottage

The French daybed look amazing! I’m a total sucker for buffalo check and the light blue and white looks great on your daybed. Love your new hairdo too!

    61. DebZorn

I think you get cuter by the minute! Your hair and makeup look great. Your daybed turned out great. You are a stylish, ambicious, go-getter, and an inspiration to me. Thank you for sharing.

    62. Cindy

Your blue eyes are so beautiful…I can’t believe you need any makeup at all! You look lovely in your pictures…thanks for offering to share the make-up you find.

    63. Linda Smith

Love the daybed and the color is perfect with your eye color! Your hair and make-up look great, but the nose ring detracts from your new polished look.

    64. Jackie

How brave you are to share your personal journey with all of us! I think we are all evolving in the hair, makeup and clothes department but not in the public eye! You look beautiful but my guess it’s just as much what’s on the inside as the changes you are making on the outside. If you are looking for a good foundation, I recommend Clinque Even Better makeup. They will give you as many samples as you need to find the perfect shade.

    65. Kelley Novak

Marion…I have a sample of fabric that looks very similar to your buffalo check. The scale of the check might be a bit smaller, but it’s worth checking out. I would describe the color as a cornflower, but I also remember that it came in other blue tones. The name of the fabric is “Lyme” and the color combo is “sky/antique white”. My sample was from decorativefabricsdirect.com. I shop at Calico Corners often and don’t think they have this unique shade of blue. I am obsessed with buffalo check so I totally love how your daybed turned out.

    66. Carol

Marian, your look has really changed since I first started following you. You look younger and funkier now. I like it, but the nose ring distracts from your very pretty face. Please consider switching to a tiny diamond stud. Still hip, but less grunge.

      • Maggie

I have to agree about the nose ring. Almost looks like boogers coming out of your nose. You are too cute to take away from your beautiful face.

    67. Ali

Blemishes and wrinkles! I hate this. Origins has made a huge difference in my face with an exfoliating pad (just generic disposable ones I got at whole foods). I started with a little trial pack so it wasn’t $100 to just try their products.
      ali

    68. Linda Carroll

I so enjoy reading your blog… your hair and makeup are beautiful…wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas!

    69. Ana

You look fabulous Marian! And I love the daybed!!!

    70. Lori

Marion, what a beautiful makeover on your daybed. You make upholstery look so easy! I also LOVE the new hair color! WOW– what a beauty you are. I am totally in love with the Bare Essentials brand make-up. It is the first time in my life that make-up does not feel heavy on my face. Its easy to apply and I have learned so much from the “experts” (or sales girls) at the stores. I have taken many a friend to the shop and they have all switched makeup after trying it out. A definite must try! Merry Christmas

    71. Rosie

Love the daybed. Hair looks great and your eyes are amazing. As far as skin care and makeup….first thing to do is do is go to a really good dermatologist, they can advise you on a good skin care regime that will help with both blemishes and the lines. This route really helped me.

    72. Patrice

I love everything that you do and I look forward to reading your daily blog. I’m 53 and have suffered with acne/blimishes my entire adult life. I went to the dermatologist this spring who recommended a Clarisonic. I hestitated because of the cost, but she assured me it would clear my skin. From someone that has tried everything, the Clarisonic works miracles. My skin is clear for the first time in my life. It got worse before better, but it is great and I have recommended it to friends that say the same. Keep up the good work, I love your blog!

    73. Mary

May I recommend garnier’s BB Cream. It’s great if you don’t want a face full of foundation on those days where you wanna feel good with little effort. I haven’t used my foundation in forever since I started using it.

    74. Lin

The daybed looks so pretty! I am sure the checks were hard to work with, but you did an excellent job!
I fell in love with Bare Minerals. It feels so good on your skin. I had to go back to liquid foundation a couple of years ago because I am 60 now and the powder does not work well with older skin due to lines and wrinkles. But I loved it when I was younger. You look so cute and I love your hair color and style. You really did so well working hard to lose the weight and your look fab!

    75. Sarah Lahrman

Marian you look amazing and the daybed turned out divine! Love the hair color ~ your eyes POP! !!

    76. marjorie herbert

i know there are so many products out there that claim to make you pretty.. but i will share my tried and true method. laugh not for it will make you smile when you see the results. water. yup basically it. once a week or about every ten days i do a facial scrub with baking soda. a one to one ratio of water and soda to make a past. moisten face and scrub scrub scrub (gently of course it is an abraisive.) and other than that scrub i just soak my face with water. usually done when a take a long bath. i use a wet cloth over my face. a few minutes of water spraying on my face during showers. and then witch hazel tightens and makes it feel new and tightens everything up. i use the little witch hazel pads wheneveri wetten my face or before putting on makeup. anyway hope my long winded comment didn’t ruing anything ha!

    77. Joan

Love your blog, the daybed, your paint products, your hair! Love everything you do! Wish I lived closer, think we could be good friends!

    78. Bev

I was going to recommend the bare minerals line both for ease of use and great results. I see some others are also fans of their products. A little goes a long way, so the cost is not as much as you would think. As for the lines/blemish thing…I’m with you sister! I’ve always thought it ironic that I could have wrinkles and zits on the same face at the same time! Such is life!

      • mj

        Bev
my face cleared up when I gave up sugar. Well, reduce it to the least amount possible and still eat……… I can spot every indulgence on my face…… but I don’t have a weight problem, so there are two advantages to skipping sweet stuff…..win-win….and the third, I can get away with going out w/ a naked face and not worrying about it. Age lines and wrinkles, now they are another story, but better those than the alternative, IMO, at my age. Merry Xmas.

    79. susan allen

Marion you look fabulous and it looks like judging from how long I have been a follower that you have lost at least 50 lbs and your getting to look TOOO THIN but I admire your determination in loosing the weight and getting in shape wish I could your are tooo cute for words and next time you are gonna post stuff in your shop please give a ready set go I went there to buy and everything was gone in like 3 or 4 hours thats amazing how quick it all went I wanted soo badly one of the nubby grain sacks or sheets thanks for being who you are and again for the 100th time YOU ARE THE BOMB!!!! I gotta come up with something else to say this is getting old LOL LOL

      • Miss Mustard Seed

Thanks, Susan! I actually have only lost 20 lbs and am still 25 lbs heavier than I was when I got married, but I am more solid, to be fair. I still have a bit more work to do, though.

Yes, I will be adding more to the shop and will try to give a bit more notice!

    80. Sharon

Marian, the daybed looks beautiful..I have a Ralph Lauren sofa that looks very similar to your day bed bur has a back ..I love it and had it covered in linen. I am searching for leather wing back chairs similar in color to your leather sofa..could you please share where you found the soda..I really want a light leather sort of worn out looking leather…would appreciate any help you could give me…
      Also, love your hair!
      Sharon

    81. Deann

“Gorgeous” is the best facial moisturizer ever ! it’s a bit pricey, but if you use a toner with it, it will last at least 4 months- it’s from LUSH. If there is a LUSH near you, *run* to the store! I love everything in there! it not only smells amazing, but is made with natural products and lots of it is vegan.
The day bed looks beautiful. I think I need to plan a few days off from work to reupholster some of my things!

    82. Michelle

I love Mary Kay eye makeup remover! I have used it for years and tried lots of others, nothing works as well, no I don’t sell Mary Kay just passing along a great product! I only use that and their foundation and a multitude of different brands for everything else. You do look great btw. Love your decorating style also. Have a Merry Christmas!

    83. Susan Warner

You look adorable. Love all the decorations.

    84. Cheryl

Love the hair color! Makes you look like a kid!
The day bed is lovely too.
I recommend as a cover cream if you need it, bye bye under eyes, by It cosmetics. It goes on w a little brush and covers better than anything I have Ever used. Also love Mineral Veil by Bare Minerals as a finishing powder. Makes your skin look soft focus and comes in SPF 25. Both on Qvc.com.
Missed the listings for the ironstone… Darn.

    85. MaryS

Exfoliate!! Moisturize!! I tired Bare Essentials and thought it was too heavy. For me the feeling of nothing is the way I want my make up to feel. For a skin care line I love AHAVA.
For a tinted moisturizer that feels like it’s not there I use Jane Iredale. Comes in a tube. A tiny bit goes a long way and it is about $26. If you have an ULTA store by you they sell AHAVA. Very superior product line.

The blue check is fabulous!! I don’t like blue but you make me re-think that. With the rug, and the wood on the sofa, it makes it all look / feel so warm. Great job again, as usual.

    86. Rhondi

Hi Marion The daybed turned out great. I have been wanting to find some blue buffalo check just that color to,cover two chairs in my living room. Where did you find it?
      Merry Christmas

    87. Loni

You look adorable! Oh and so does your daybed!

    88. Debbie

Have you taken a look at Pottery Barn’s Spring Preview pillows?
Some wonderful blues, I think you would like.

      Debbie

    89. Veronica

The daybed looks great. Clarke and Clarke has a beautiful linen buffalo check in blue that I love. You may have to back it for light upholstery. I don’t have the pattern name or color available now but can find it for you if you need it.

I love your pixie haircut and the color is great. Your skin looks great as well. I am not feeling the nose ring although it does look good on you.

    90. Kalina D'Orazio

I love everything you do to your house! I’m always moving things around and changing things up in my house too…but I’m not brave enough to try upholstering anything yet!
I use Arbonne products for skincare and makeup…and they are amazing! Swiss botanical products that actually do what they promise and make your skin look younger! Their CC cream is great combined with their mineral powder foundation!

    91. Lee Caroline - A World of Inspiration

The sofa looks great, I do love the buffalo checks and think a perfect choice. Your hair looks great, they are lovely photos. I get my new camera in a few days time and sooooo excited. I have settled on the Nikon D7100 with lense kit and an extra lense for food/craft shots…gosh it is going to cost me a lot of money. No idea how much they are in the USA but in NZ they are pretty expensive but I think worth the money to be able to take a lot of my own images for my blog. I guess I will have to attend some sort of camera course to be able to use it.

Thank you for all the work you put into your blog. I only discovered it a few months ago but now an avid follower.

Have a wonderful Christmas & New Year

      Lee 🙂

    92. Patti

SOY, that’s what I don’t eat and my skin is wonderful! All these years suffering with issues and it got worse as I got older. At 40 I went to an allergist and found out that I’m allergic to soy. If you look at most cosmetics soy is in almost all of them. I now use Dr. Bronners baby soap and then moisturize with shea butter and 100% grape seed oil. Both are organic and purchased at the health food store. I mix equal parts of both and apply to my skin paying close attention to the eye area. I’ve 50 now and in 10 years I have 1 or 2 of the fine lines but no deep ones. I’ve been told by the Doc that I now have the skin of a 32 year old. I only wear mascara and a little blush. My best compliments have been from women who ask what I use on my face and when I tell them my age and what I use the jaw usually drops. Most are 20 years younger than me. Drink plenty of good water, don’t smoke and watch the sun.

I also think your hair looks wonderful!! The color brightens you up,absolutely love it !!!

    93. Lori Terceira

I love makeup. I swear by moisturizer, eyeliner and lipstick when I’m in a rush.

    94. Lisa Lund

Love the Daybed!!! Great fabric choice too. Good for you figuring it out as you go along, and help from your Mom…something to cherish. As far as make-up, you look great, and stick with mineral based products that are not tested on animals.

    95. Gwen, The Makerista

Really beautiful, Marian! The daybed is pretty too. 🙂

I love your hair color! The darker really compliments your skin and brings out your features, including those gorgeous blue eyes. I hope you all have a blessed Christmas!

    96. Jeanine

I love your hair and your fearlessness in changing it up. The color really brings out your eyes. I do agree with other commenters that a small diamond stud would make you even more attractive. Also, while I’m giving my 2 cents, I think you’d look great with some mauve lipstick to bring out your eyes even more. I like NYC’s 2 in 1 duet lip color in the penthouse plums. For only $2.99, it’s worth a try! I get mine at Target.
Have you tried the oil cleansing method for cleaning your face? I’ve been using it for a few months now, and it has really helped my skin. I read about it at andreadekker.com. She has a really good tutorial and other info about it. I love that this method is good for your face, and it cleans all your makeup off easily including mascara.

    97. Betsy Pasko-Flaherty

You’re simply adorable! I love your hair. It looks great with your pretty blue eyes. However, I had no idea you had your nose pierced. How cute is that on you! Adorable! You are the most inspiring and creative young woman. I adore you! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and creative techniques. We all love you! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Looking forward to your new years creativity!

    98. Shari

Hey Marian, I always love your style! You are an inspirational young woman! I don’t happen to have a nose ring but believe its part of your style. Just like the artsy clothes and cute pixie hair. It makes Marian Marian. You rock!!!

    99. Kathy

      Marion,

      You are strikingly beautiful!

I might just get inspired enough to start exercising, who knows!

      Merry Christmas,
      Kathy

    100. Deborah

Check out paulaschoice.com. She has great skin care products and foundations. She also has what is called Beautipedia that rates products from many makeup and skin care brands. It is my go to for beauty products. You can also find out what are the best products for your skin type. My skin hasn’t given me any trouble for years.(other than normal signs of aging!)

    101. Margie

You are gorgeous! Hair, makeup, and all! Don’t let anyone change your mind about the nose ring. I like it. It’s cute. It’s a part of you individuality! I’m 60, have been using Obagi RXc system for years, a line recommended to me by my nail lady who’s been doing my nails for 23 years and has amazing skin. With too many years in the CA sun, I had a lot a lot of sun damage; Most people can’t guess my age, now. Take care of your skin now, and use a sun block!
Your sofa is fabulous! I have a suggestion you might think about if the cushions are too floppy after a while. Usually, I think down cushions are actually backed with foam, wrapped with batting, and then the down is packed in on and around.-or you might make a big flat down pillow to place on top of the foam and batting. It would mean opening up your beautiful work, but it might be worth it in the long run. I’ll bet there’s a tutorial on it somewhere!
I love your blog, check it on a daily basis- you are an inspiration to women of all ages!
      Merry Christmas!

    102. Jennifer

Wow, beautiful! You and your daybed!

    103. louise

Gosh, you have been given sooo many suggestions that I almost feel redundant in giving you any more. How could you possibly try all of them? However, I am still going to tell you the products I love, because I am like that.

We have the same eye color. I LOVE the Naked 2 palette by Urban Decay. I usually don’t “waste” money on palettes as I rarely like enough of the shades, but all the colors in this one work. They are also very pigmented, the color goes on so smoothly and it lasts. I think I can honestly say I have not used another eyeshadow all year, and I wear makeup mosts days. (t is over $50 but it is worth it. And I am fruga/cheap. I’d buy it again in a heartbeat.

As for mascara, Revlon 3D. I find it comparable to the much hyped and much more costly “They’re Real” I may even like it better.

When it comes to foundation I have tried many over the past few years. I have sensitive and pale skin that is prone to dryness. I always come back to Almay Line Smoothing. I have tried all the powder mineral foundations, very expensive cream and liquid foundations (I always ask for samples in stores) but for me nothing looks as good and feels as light as the Almay. I have found that personally, on me. I don’t like mineral makeup, liquid just looks so much more dewy or luminous. I have to say it is ONLY the Line Smoothing that I like and it is gettering harder to find (I need to buy 500 of them) but it has not been discontinued. Trust me, I checked with Almay!

Blush. You can’t beat good old Covergirl Cheekers .. . or ELF available at Target has great blushes that are so cheap. Not inexpensive, downright CHEAP. Bright colors that could scare you away in the pan, but you only need a couple of light sweeps.

Invest in good makeup brushes and use the right brush for the right task. They make a big, no HUGE difference. Painiting your face is like painting furniture. The right tools are more than half the battle. Japonesque available at Ulta or Sonia Kashuk available at Target are more affordable ones that compare favourably to the much more costly but great brushes like MAC.

As for skincare, well, I’d have to know more about your skin, but it looks lovely, I can say that. Is it a little sensitve, does it get pink easily? A great exfoliant is two table spoons of Greek Yoghurt 2% fat (you need a bit of that good fat) and a large pinch of turmeric (which is anti-inflammatory and brightening) “smoosh” (that’s a techical term) that on your face for ten mins. Don’t let it get on a towel or anything fabric that you like. You will never get the bright yellow out. Do this once a week.

Pimples, spot treat with Queen Helene Mint Julep mask, leave the little dab overnight.

Cleanse with Cetaphil or Neutrogena Extra Gentle, even if you break out unless your skin is SUPER oily it is usually best to cleanse with something very gentle. Treat pimples with serums or creams, not a cleanser.

I have kept cost in mind with these recommendations (for the most part) but I love all of them. I have access to higher end and more $ products at work and I think those I have suggested compare very well,or may even be better. Especially the Greek Yoghurt/turmeric mask, as good as any high end exfoliant I have found.

      Are you snoring yet?

    104. mary w.

Looks like I am in a long line of people to recommend the Maskcara blog!

    105. Patti

I really enjoy your blog! I am in love with the fabrics you used. Who makes the brown and blue bird fabric? It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for.

    106. Anita

      Wonderful!! It’s amazing.

    107. Sue

      Marian,

You are just glowing! My current fave foundation is Covergirl Outlast 3 in 1. It covers beautifully and feels like nothing on…also Flower Beauty BB Cream is fab but available only at WalMart. Have tried high end low end and everything in between. I would recommend you head for makeupalley.com and be sure you have your favorite beverage and a comfy chair because you will be there awhile 🙂

Looking forward to the new year and seeing what you come up with!

      Sue

    108. Marian@Gathering Branches

      Marian,
You look so fantastic! I am so proud of you. Who else would be capable of becoming a hard body over one of the busiest years of their life? I just put on 20 lbs because of stress eating, and here you are showing us all how much better you feel if you chose to be careful with what you eat and making sure to exercise. I am always afraid I’ll put in the time and effort and restraint and then be disappointed with the results. Thanks so much for showing your journey, because it’s proving to my stubborn mind that the effort really does pay off. The pictures are right there in front of me that it works. I feel a key in my heart turning and unlocking my own fitness journey. Thanks for being so open about what it takes to make your dreams come true both in your home and with your body. It gives the rest of us more courage.
      The Other Marian

    109. Julie

      Hi Marion,

I absolutely love the natural brand, Mychelle. I started out using their skin care products (creams etc) because I have super sensitive skin and now I use their make up as well. They have a lovely “cream foundation” in stick form that is the BEST ever. It is so easy to use! I can use it all over or just under my eyes. It feels so light and nice on but really does give a decent amount of coverage. I also use their blush stick (super fabulous too). I order directly from their site because they run sales a lot. For mascara I adore the natural brand, Ecco Bella. They received the best natural rating on the skin deep site. It is natural but it totally works (it looks as nice as my old favorite Great Lash)!!! The best price I have found on this is to order from vitacost. I frequently fall asleep in this make-up and never have any breakouts/problems because I don’t wash it off. You have to love that!

    110. Lara

I have battled with skin issues forever, but my skin has never been better since I started using this: http://www.clearandsmoothskin.com/shop/ I found these amazing skin care products when I was searching for holistic alternatives to the chemical garbage I had been using. I get compliments on my skin now! I also highly recommend Bare Minerals makeup. Go to a retailer who sells it (Macy’s, Ulta, etc.) and they’ll show you how to use it. Good luck!

Ps-Love your blog! Love your style!

    111. Lynn@Southern Direction

      Marion,
I have to say I agree a lot with Louise and I think I might try her Greek Yogurt Exfoliatant; with that being said, I guess I will add to the tremendous pile of advice you’ve already received. I will tell you I’m pretty sure I have a few years on you; I’m 42 and I work in a textile mill not in the public eye but I am compelled to share a few thoughts with you.

The worst thing is I’m afraid that all this advice on appearance is going to rock your confidence in the creative and truly beautiful person you are. It was very brave to ask everybody what they thought. I basically run my “what do ya thinks” by my sister and my two daughters. I’m not strong enough to listen to everyone’s opinion on my looks because everyone has got an opinion and they will probably be very different from the way you want to see yourself.

Congratulation on losing so much weight; what an accomplishment! I didn’t realize you would have had a need to lose that much. Unless you are blessed with perfect genetics, that is a factor that plagues all women. Through the years, my weight will be a little more or it will be little less, never extreme either way but I will caution you as you do get older becoming very thin will definitely show age worse and the wrinkles will show in your face more so don’t let it become compulsive. I don’t believe in scales. Keep a full length mirror and realistic eye and you’ll know when you look right and when you need to work on things.

We share the same hair, skin and eye color. I bet you were a blonde blue-eyed child and teen. My hair has darkened with age and my skin is much lighter as I’m not in the sun the same as a result I tend to look just washed out and even worse in pictures. I use to think I didn’t want to color my hair. I preferred to be natural as I think it’s a better look but I have taken to highlights and such.

I personally stay away from powdered foundation. If I wear powder I can put ten years on my face because it is going to find a crease to lay in especially around my eyes. Even in my twenties there were slight wrinkles around my eyes and powder will get in there. Many times, I use a sports foundation such as Almay or just a perfector. I am thinking to try some of the BB creams. For me they need to be thin but need to last the day.

I typically do not use blushes unless I am wanting more for a special occasion or maybe church. What works for me is a bronzer. I’ll use it just like a blush but I’ll go slightly heavier on my cheekbones and hit a light bit across my nose and forehead just to give a little sun-kissed look.

I like brown toned eye shadow. You might have to play with it to get the tone that actuates your eye. Too dark can look weird. Sometimes I want a little more their also and I’ll put a dash of blue but I make sure I use a light hand with that certain greens can work too but I don’t want it to compete with my eyes just make them pop. I always wear eyeliner! Most the time “black/brown” works best for me. I don’t put much on the bottom of my eyelid; that too can find a way getting places I don’t intend but I have lately taken to using a white eyeliner on the bottom lid. I work nightshift and it can take that pink tired look away. Maybeline still makes a great mascara.

I think lips are important. I like them to look as naturally full and pouty as they can. Red can look weird on me and I don’t like to look “pink.” Mauve’s can be good. On regular days my favorite go to right now is Burt Bees replenishing Lip Balm with Pomegranate. It has just enough color to look fabulous and very natural. My daughter is hooked on it. too. I keep it in my pocket always. It just looks like you’re moisturizing your lips and not trying to be a glamour girl. It does not bleed. If I need more umph I will use a mauve or natural color lipliner under the lip balm.

      Moisturize more and scrub less..
Are you about sick to death of all the girl talk..lol…

Just a little more of my opinion and a the question I have asked all my girls and boys when the subject of facial piercing, industrials, and tattoos have come up. I don’t like ’em but why do you want it? They always tell me they want to express themselves. I then ask, “What are you try to say?” I haven’t gotten an answer yet….I don’t know..

I think you’re great..Most of all be happy and be yourself!

    112. Laura Van Scott

Mary Kay mineral/powder foundation is wonderful! I dislike cream foundation because my face gets so dry that it always looks like it’s caked on. (fake) The powder foundation is around $20 but it lasts forever! You look great Marian! I admire you for sticking with your exercise and eating habits. Have a Merry Christmas! Jesus loves you!

    113. maggie

Oh how I love the daybed! I was a fan of the buffalo plaid from the start and now I’m an even bigger fan. Great job!

I have the same coloring you do and the highlights/lowlights are a really good choice. You look great, too! I won’t even begin to try to advise on makeup since it’s such a personal choice but I will say that the mineral powder types really clogged my pores. Not good for me! I also cannot wear makeup brands that use animal-related ingredients which unfortunately a lot of them do. Good luck on your makeup search!

    114. Karan

I use Paula’s Select (has to be ordered from WA) for all my cleansing and moisturizing. I LOVE her Hair and Body Shampoo, I don’t have to travel with 2 different kinds of cleaners.. For my makeup that is Mary Kay, foundation and powder, but I think that is going to change soon. I tried to get it all down to a simple, easy way of life for me and still look nice in the process.

As a Mary Kay Consultant, I have to offer my recommendations. This company is not what it used to be. They are on the cutting edge in research and development. Some key points about the company-made in the USA, no landfill, Mary Kay Foundation which funds research for cancers affecting women and domestic violence shelters and programs. Debt. free.

Mineral Powder is great, but I would recommend the TimeWise Liquid Foundation in the Luminous formula if your skin tends to be dry or Matte if its combo/oily. The skin care is best and we launched our Repair line last August. Mineral colors are triple pigment. A lot of new items like a skin cleansing brush-it rocks. Lash/Brow serum that is phenomenal (less expensive than Latisse and don’t need a prescription). Best of all, every product is 100% satisfaction guarantee. Go to MaryKay.com, put in you zip code to find a consultant near you. You will be helping a small business owner as well.

Have a Merry Christmas and a joyous New Year. Christ the Saviour is born.

I agree with your make-up comments and am going to get in touch with someone I know who is a Mary Kay rep to support a local small business.

Joy to the World! Merry Christmas (for Christ is born).

Before too much makeup shopping, the librarian in me must recommend that you check out Paula Begoun’s books “Don’t go to the cosmetics counter without me” (the 9th edition came out in 2012, so pretty current)

I read it years ago and it really helped a lot with what to use for your skin type, what to splurge on and what to get at good ol’ Walgreen’s. Saved money and helped my skin at the same time!

OH, I think the French daybead turned out so cute 🙂 🙂

You look wonderful, too….you have good color but it’s not overdone 🙂 🙂 I find that when I take the time to put on some make-up and dress up a little bit, even if it’s just casual, I feel better about myself and I work better….

When I take the time to dress up extra at work, I perform better there, too 🙂 🙂

Have a great weekend 🙂 Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather 🙂

Marian, the sofa looks awesome. I look forward to the coming tutorials.
Your skin looks beautiful and your hair color is great. I wish I had Mary in east Texas.
These are my everyday favorite everyday skin care and cosmetics.
I love my clarisonic, my elemis marine cream night and day. Smashbox is my favorite for eyes and cheeks.
I just found out about Birchbox. Have you heard of it? For $10 a month you can get a goodie box full of the latest products. I have signed up but haven’t received my first box yet. I thought it was a great way to try stuff I might not otherwise purchase.
      Happy hunting

      Marian,
I see there are lots of comments on the subjects of your sofa reveal ( love, love love ) and advice on make up.
I will tell you as a very experienced ( aka OLD ,) buyer of lots of skin care products..that Philosophy makes some of the very best . Their Purity cleanser is awesome and a little goes a long way…Sometimes I can find their items at TJ Maxx…Their 3 in 1 shower gel has won awards for years…

Nothing is as beautiful as a happy girl,, It’s one of the things that draws people to your blog..just my opinion..

You look fab. The cut and color are so cute, and fresh. Your eyes are gorgeous! Keep up the good work, and have fun!

Marian, I love your blog and how you aren’t afraid to keep it real. Your pics are stunning and so inspiring for a 44 yr old Mom of three like me.

Love your heather jute rug.may I ask your source?
      Merry Christmas

Marian- I would recommend Maskcara http://maskcaracosmetics.3dcartstores.com. She makes easy to use foundation and the HAC PAC is reasonably priced as well. SHe has online tutorials on how to use the makeup. It is fabulous and makes my skin look flawless but not overly made up, which is NOT easy to do, let me tell ya’!
I think you are bee-u-tiful anyhow you look so this is just a suggestion =)

Have the Merriest of Jesus’ birthdays!

I normally an not a make-up person. We have three girls and one in particular LOVES make-up and is so talented. A friend of mine was selling mascara that was supposed to be AMAZING!!! Ok….I ordered from her and the mascara came in. OH MY GOSH!!! It is incredible. So much so that we bought our talented make up daughter a starter pack to sell it 😉 I had gotten to where all mascara made my eyes water. This mascara is a two part that I love!!! Give it a try! I listed her link. Give her some love…she is a teacher and is so excited about sharing all of their make-up. It is called Younique.

I am of course absolutely massively passionately in love the with gingham daybed. It couldn’t possibly be an cuter… It looks perfect in your house… wow!
And as far as makeup, there are about 1 billion trillion choices out there… so good luck with that! I have some tried and true stuff, but not sure if it’s any better than what others are recommending. Out of all i’ve tried, I still think maybelline mascara is the best though… Your hair cut is just too adorable. I like it this color and when it’s blonde. Either way, your sparkling blue eyes just pop…

Love everything….the sofa…the decor…your hair. I also really like the printed fabric on the throw pillow, great colors! Could you possibly send me in the right direction…i would love to purchase a yard or two? Hope you had a Merry Christmas…and have a happy/safe New Year.

    127. Lisa

Marion, I recommend the L’OreaL Visible Lift (cream) blush in Pink Lift/Rose (703). It’s the most natural looking blush I have ever used.

    128. Debe

The daybed is wonderful but you are looking stunning!! Your weight loss is really evident. Keep up the good, hard work. Taking a close up like that is very brave but you are gorgeous and those eyes!
I wish I could find some great French pieces around me here near Houston but I must not be looking in the right places. Good job ALL around ! !
