I was supposed to go to Six Flags today with a bunch of teenagers, but the heat index today was over 103 degrees, which was way to hot to spend outside all day with my two toddlers, so we stayed home. Around lunch time, when my husband was between roller coaster rides, he called me.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m moving some furniture around.”
“Are you serious?”
“Umm…yes.”
“Really?”
“Yes. I’ve been thinking about…” and I started spewing out a string of my thoughts on the awkward layout of our bedroom and how people wouldn’t stub their toes on my vanity stool if I moved it to where his dresser was and now I love it and I’m hanging pictures. Believe it or not, this is not an uncommon scenario in our home. Poor, poor hubby.
So, now I am determined to make some more progress on my master bedroom. It’s a makeover that has been going on for months.
I love my vanity in this new spot. The best thing is that the mirror reflects my half canopy, which addresses one of the main design rules about mirrors – “Make sure a mirror reflects something beautiful.” I couldn’t stop there, so I also played with some accessories.
I cut up some light green eucalyptus branches to fill my antique zinc cups from Anthropologie and layered some family pieces that tied into the color scheme of the room.
The mirror and small picture belonged to my grandmother, the gold box belonged to my mom, and the wood box was given to me as a gift when I visited Russia as a teenager.
It was fun to “play” in my house today and I have a new energy to get some neglected projects finished.
Lastly, I need to take care of a bit of business. I was overwhelmed by the response I received to my offer for a free design consultation. So much so, I decided to choose my favorites and then put it up to a vote and let my readers chose the “guinea pig”. I sent out e-mails to my favorites requesting pictures of the space, so it would be easier for my readers to make a decision. I received pictures from most, but I am still waiting on a few. If I don’t receive your pictures, you won’t be in the running for the consultation. Oh…don’t miss out! If your name is listed below, send me two or three pictures of the space you would like some help with.

Beautiful! Will look forward to seeing the whole room in all its glory! 🙂
We recently moved. Would love to have you stop over for a peak at what I've finished so far!
Blessings,

I love that vanity!
Love the vanity & also love your little vignettes. A few years ago my husband left to go hillwalking one morning. A couple of hours later he phoned & asked "Where are you?" "I'm in the bedroom with the rose border" said I. "We don't have a bedroom with a rose border" Yes you've guessed lol
Love the eucalyptus {spelled right?}! I usually only see fake at Michaels, so I love that this looks fresh and the shade of green. I love your vanity and being able to see the reflection of your canopy. You really did such a nice job on this room and I love when you show it off!
Oh how beautiful this room is!!! I just love it!! The vanity I love and the reflection of your canopy is just stunning!
But the accessories just set it off for me! LOVE them!
I hate it that I missed out on the free consult!! Can't wait to see what magic you create for they lucky one!

Just stopping by to say Hi, and to see what you have been up to and you sure have been a busy girl! I love your fabric for your curtains, really pretty!. I love to play around the house too, every change I get…
Have a sweet day,
Elizabeth
Hi! I'm newly back online and had to stop in first thing… Wow, your whole house is looking so beautiful and "grown-up!" Could you please come down n do mine? Lately I've been tweaking outside areas n kids rooms… I think it's time I refresh my own bedroom. If only The Farmer were as supportive as your hubby when I change things 'round, – again! Thanks for the lovely inspiration. But if you show any more of your awesome thrifty finds you might find yourself, umm robbed or somethin'… Just sayin'! 😉
hugs,
Leslie
Hi Marian! I sent you an email with the photos and answers to your questions. Let me know if it didn't come through. -Maria
My sweetie and I have the same phone calls….
he jokes with his co-workers that he never knows where he will find his bed when he gets home from a trip….smiles.
ooh too funny! my husband always jokes (um, he's only half joking!) that he only lives here and he knows where nothing is and never knows if he'll find things in remotely the same location as when he left in the morning!
