a pillow you can customize

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Marlow, a brand-new company from the founders of Brooklinen.  I’ve partnered with Brooklinen for over five years, so I was happy to partner with them on their newest brand created to help me sleep more comfortably.  As always, all opinions and words expressed are honest and my own.

When moving into a new home, there are a lot of good moments.  Some good moments that come to mind are eating the first meal in the house (ours was pizza, picnic-style), getting the kitchen set up, and the first time the family snuggles on the sofa for a movie night.  But, I think the best moment in a new house is when you finally sleep in your own bed, especially if it’s been almost five months!

I seriously could’ve cried tears of joy when our bed was set up and made with freshly-washed linen sheets from Brooklinen.  I can’t help but smile each night when I get in bed after a long day of unpacking, cleaning, organizing, and painting.  Having a comfortable bed, down to the mattress, sheets, blankets, and pillows are vital for getting quality rest so I can produce quality work.

One of the casualties of bouncing between rentals, family homes, and hotels over the summer was Jeff’s pillow.  He was so bummed when he realized he had left it at a hotel.  He hasn’t been able to find a pillow he likes as much as the one he lost, so the box from Marlow containing two pillows arrived at the perfect time.  Marlow’s pillow is a memory foam pillow which is like the one Jeff left at the hotel.  There were some significant differences, though.

1.) The Marlow Pillow is adjustable.  I’ve seen adjustable pillows that involve pulling out shredded fluff and, as nice as that idea is, it’s a mess and not something that’s practical to do if you want to adjust your pillow to how your body is feeling on a particular day.  The Marlow pillow has zippers that can be zipped and unzipped to create three different firmness options.  Jeff likes a firm pillow, so he had both zippers zipped.  I like a soft pillow, so I have both zippers unzipped.

2.)  The pillows have vented gussets for optimum airflow, which allow good airflow through the pillow.  This not only keeps the pillow feeling fresh, but it has a cooling feel.  No more turning your pillow over or adjusting to find a cool spot!

3.) The pillow is antimicrobial and repels dust mites and bacteria.  It’s also vegan and allergy friendly.

It’s a pretty big deal that both Jeff and I found the same pillow comfortable given that we have very different pillow preferences, but the zippers aren’t just a gimmick and they really made the pillow sleep differently.

The other thing I liked about this pillow is that it has a great feel.  Some pillows made of a shredded memory foam feel like shredded foam.  The Marlow pillow feels solid and supportive, yet sinkable soft.

So, of course, this is a great pillow for everyday use, especially if you’re a picky-pillow user, but I can see this being amazing for a guest room.  Guests can easily adjust the pillow to make it suit their comfort needs.

You can also purchase a Marlow Cooling Pillow Protector cover.  It’s a washable, cooling cover that protects the pillow better than a pillow case alone.

As is true with Brooklinen, everything is top-notch quality.  I’m not pulling at the zipper, hoping it doesn’t snag or split.  It’s all well made and comes with a two-year warranty.

  1. I like a down pillow so I can smush it up under my face, but it’s also flat where I lay my head. Will this pillow do something like this?

    1. When you wrote adjustable and vegan those two words sealed it for me. I’m a picky pillow user, and I also take mine when I travel but I’ve been feeling like it’s time for a new one lately. Whenever I can I chose products that aren’t tested on animals or use them in the ingredients…I will literally sleep better knowing no one was intentionally harmed for my choices. I’ve always enjoyed your reviews and liked many of your selections but this is one I’ll be trying too. Thanks!

  2. My sister’s strategy for remembering to take her pillow with her when she leaves a hotel is to use a colorful pillowcase when traveling

    1. great idea. my bedding at home is all white which is the same as nearly every hotel and i have left several very expensive pillows behind

  3. Those pillows sound lucious. But I must tell you that I bought the Brooklinen linen sheets when you featured them and love love love them. So I bought extra pillowcases and the pillow protectors and luxuriate every night.

  4. I left my pillow behind at a hotel once. I called them as soon as I noticed and they kindly mailed it to me. Now that is good room service.

  5. Do the zippers affect how this pillow feels? It seems you would be sleeping with zipper tabs poking you…. I’m kind of a pillow snob, these sound great, apart from the zipper pulls issue (or non issue). I currently use a sleep number side sleeper pillow which I love but am always up for trying something new.

  6. I’m so enjoying your daily blogs on a wide variety of subjects. I don’t know how you are doing it! Thank you for taking the time out of your very hectic life to share your experiences.

  7. I feel for Jeff. I’ve left my fav pillow at a hotel more than once. It’s heart-breaking.

  8. I have tried to purchase these pillows but can’t seem to bypass ‘accept cookies.’ I submitted the info for ‘do not sell my information’ and still cannot submit my purchase. The statement to ‘accept cookies’ still remains and I can’t advance to check out . I do not hundreds of extra emails to come through just for the sake of two pillows. Not worth it. Not your job to fix this I know, but maybe you can just pass on the info. Very frustrating.

  9. Just received my pillows they seam like nice quality but very flat even with both zippers open. It will be interesting to see what my husband thinks.
