As I’ve mentioned a couple of times, there are a lot of new things I’m working on behind the scenes. One of those things is new colors for the milk paint line! Well, Lucketts is the perfect time to test out those colors “in the real world” on a piece of furniture, so I’ve been doing a lot of “testing”! Here is the first new color I’m introducing…
Dried Lavender
The names of my paint colors are all inspired by things I love or use in my home, so Dried Lavender fit perfectly. I’ve sold it out of my space at Lucketts for years…
…and it’s in some of my more famous pictures…
When milk paint customers and retailers started asking me for a purple, I knew immediately this is the direction I would go. I mean, I’m not really a purple person, so a grayish, smoky purple is about as far as I can go!
Here’s the dresser before…
…and after…
…of course, I left the top wood, as is my custom.
I will be sharing a tutorial on how I achieved the two-tone look on the drawers.
The dresser will be for sale at Lucketts for $285.
I finished about six pieces of furniture yesterday and my mom and I got started on a bunch of “antique signs”, so I’ll have a lot to share. I may be getting to the point where I just need to run around my basement and snap photos, so you can see what I’m bringing, but I do hope to get some staged beauty shots in, too.
We load the truck on Wednesday evening, so it is fast approaching!
One last thing… My Joss & Main curated event is live and will run through May 16, 2013. Some picks are already sold out, so don’t miss it!

looks beautiful I cannot wait to try something like that on a dresser I have waiting for a makeover in my garage!
Love the new color! Can’t wait to see all your items this weekend!
I am not a purple girl either… this color is just beautiful!! Beautiful!! I hope you have a wonderful time at market and I can’t wait to see your signs that you made!!
YAY, new colors!! I’m so excited!
I am not a fan of purple either but I absolutely LOVE this color!!! Great job!!! 🙂
Absolutely beautiful! And those knobs! My favorite so far! I recently saw some beautiful linen fabric in a grayish purple color and stopped in my tracks. This color would go with it perfectly.
A girl’s week end at Lucketts coming up. Never been just wanted to go forever.See you there.
Believe it or not, I’m not a purple girl either, but I’m definitely a soft, smoky, grayish lavender girl! I love this beautiful color, the name, and the details on your dresser. Great knobs too. I can’t wait to see it in person.
The color is gorgeous! Also, SO excited to be making it to Lucketts for the market this year! See you Sunday. 🙂
I am so excited about the new colors! GORGEOUS! I screamed yesterday morning when I opened my 3 packages of MMSMP & a jig saw for Mother’s Day.
Hopefully, I’ll have something for Friday’s linky party =D.
I think $285 is a steal for one of your dressers. Your talent, hard work, eye for design, and NAME go into/along with these items. I think without gouging, even another $50-$75 would be worth what someone going to your “shop” would be willing to pay. I am imagining a stampede! Have a WONDERFUL time!!! I wish I still lived in VA. I would be coming to visit!
Here I thought that I was the only non-purple fan! I see that there are more of us then I ever expected. I do love the smoky grayish purple of your new color…it’s beautiful.
LOVE this color!!!! I do like purple but never would be able to put it on a piece of furniture! But this……..I can do! Beautiful! You’re so very talented Marian!
Love it! I can’t wait to try it out! 🙂 See ya in a few days!
I’m not a purple gal too, but this shade is BEAUTIFUL…job well done!!! This is a beautiful piece and a outstanding price. So wish that I could shop the show:(
Blessings,
Linda
Oh that is a beautiful color, soft lavender is one of my favorite colors. The first time I got to decorate my bedroom as a young teen , I picked lavender for the walls. My furniture was French Provincial. It makes me laugh when I think back and realize that my taste hasn’t changed much since then. I have to find something to paint this color, its just gorgeous.
Beautiful color! I too am not a purple fan, but I love Lavender, the flower. I also get so inspired and so excited reading your book and blog. I think the people out here, though, use their furniture to a shambles because I only find what was good furniture totally torn apart or thr really ugly stuff from the 60s and 70s.
Beautiful! Lovely color, pretty piece, and I love those knobs! As someone who lived in Northern Virginia until recently, I agree with Kristin. I think you are undervaluing your work. I would pay $350 for that dresser without hesitation. And I would feel like I got a very good deal!
Thanks! I know I could sell my pieces for more, but I always want to keep my prices reasonable, even bargains. I know what it’s like to count pennies…
And that is probably one of the reasons you have been so blessed! Your heart is in the right place, and you are a whirlwind with a paint brush!
Love this color, I’m not a purple person but I like the color, I have the exact dresser, love the new color, did you use a stencil or is it freehand, its lovely.
Where did you get the glass square knobs “Anthropology”? love them.
Martha
From Hobby Lobby at 50% off!
Your work is beautiful, of course, and as always! But I love those knobs. And thank you for sharing the price you are asking at Lucketts. It’s nice to get a guage for what others are asking for their pieces. You continue to inspire me!
I am not a huge purple fan either, but I do like this – very nice piece!
This color/dresser looks beautiful! And I absolutely LOVED everything in your Joss and Main collection – such great items for all decor!
Love the new color, Marian! I love how you find inspiration for your colors in all the wonderful things you love around your home. Each color has significant meaning to you, and that will translate to the individuals who use that paint color in their own homes! Also, great picks for the Joss & Main event. I grabbed a Cabana Stripe Pillow in Linen and a copy of Inspired You! Looking forward to receiving them in the upcoming weeks. Keep up the amazing work! You are a daily source of inspiration for me and soooo many others!
I love the new color you used and also the knobs. I’m not a big purple fan but do love the lighter color lavender and have used it in some of my new paintings. It’s not a color I’ve used very much in the past but I really like it. Funny how one’s sense of color can change over time.
Love it! I’m so excited to try some MMS Milk Paint – we have a supplier in Clovis now! It’s on my list of splurges for next payday…now to choose a color 🙂
It’s a beautiful piece! What a great new color!
xo,
Shannon
It’s soooooo pretty! I’m in love with this new color, Marian!
Love the new color and the dresser makeover – fabulous! Question – where did you find those wonderful knobs? I might need some of those.
Very subtle, very pretty! Look forward to seeing the preview! I’ll be “Moving in” on Thursday with my trailer and teen helpers, although they are much more interested in seeing what everyone else is bringing! (And visiting Rocky Point Creamery!) Take care! — Pauline
If you do post pictures can we reserve items for the Luckett’s Fair? I can’t WAIT to come (for the first time) but am worried your booth is going to be a mod scene and I won’t get to buy anything. 🙂 Maybe I’m just worrying for no reason.
Yes, I have pre-sold things to people who are coming to the fair in the past and will do it again this year. I know that horrible feeling of the thing you really want being sold before you can get there!
In today’s post you said you have a drop leaf table. Would you mind telling me if it is square and if it’s small? I’m looking for a small one to use as more of a table against a wall and then bring it out when we need more seating for big dinners. Thanks! So excited to see you Saturday.
The dresser is so cute! love the little hand painted accents! good luck at luckett’s!
Beautiful new color! Love the dresser and how you highlighted the trim.
What a beautiful new color and I love the dresser. Can’t wait to see you work in person on Sunday. 🙂
not a purple fan either but this I like. soooo where did you get those fab knobs ?
Those are from Hobby Lobby.
Absolutely fabulous color! You are sooo great at ‘seeing” the true colors of things and choosing the shade of that color that will look the best. Like “Lucketts Green” for example, it is a wonderful green. All of your colors are good. You really get the subtleties that can make huge differences…
Cindy
Thanks! That’s a huge compliment. 🙂
Lovely colour! I like it best when colours have a hint of grey in it.
Gorg!!!! Love your knobs too! (That sounded wrong, but you know what I mean!)
LOL…too funny.
I grow and dry lavender, so of course I love the new color. While living at one time in Fl. I painted my L.R. in a pale lavender, the D.R. in a pale sage green, that year it looked like a tea room………… Thank you so much for sharing………Lavender for rememberance!
Lovely color, I’m getting anxious for Saturday also, I hope the weather is pefect. Can’t wait to see the “dried lavender” in person.
My favorite, Lavender, it is just like the real thing color wise. Beautiful dresser and the detailing looks great!
Cynthia
You’re right … grey purple is just soft and beautiful.
I love to see your prep for the big day! Even the pricing was great information!
Thanks for all you share,
Deb
pretty! I hope I get to see this one in person to really get a good look at the color!
Love it! When will this color be available to buy? I just picked up a dresser I’d like to use this on. Good luck at Lucketts! I grew up in that area. I can remember when there was a blinking stop light at that intersection…actually before that a stop sign, and before that, nothing! Fairfax and Loudoun Counties have exploded since those days (the 80’s). And I don’t think I’m much older than you BTW! My two pee wees and I will drive up to see our friends and family in your neck of the woods in June-July. We moved to FL 3 years ago. Gotta say, I do love it here, though I miss Purcellville (our last home in VA)! My family lives in Thurmont, MD (where we’ll stay mostly) so I’ll definitely stop in at Lucketts to see your stuff! I sooo wish you had been there when I lived there! I’ve bought quite a few goodies for our home along at Lucketts and along Rte.15. We’ll be in Gettysburg a bit too – gotta have some Mexican at Montezuma’s!
She’s so pretty. I love the color – gorgeous! Good luck at Luckett’s! Can’t wait to see more of what you’ve been up to.
The painted detail is very evocative of lavender swaying in the wind. So pretty!
Re: your counting pennies comment, you are dear one!!!!!!!!!!!
Whaaaaaa! I wish I lived near Lucketts. Your pieces are so special; love the dried lavendar color. Here’s a suggestion (if you don’t already do this) ….sign your pieces. I’d love to have a Miss Mustard Seed dresser and someday, you are going to be super famous (you are already famous). Best of luck at the fair.
Love the way the dresser is painted. Also like the name of the color and the color itself. Add one more paint color to my list…
Wish I didn’t live in Missouri…. I would love to buy the dresser….you are so good at making colors. I, too, am not really in to purple but your dresser is gorgeous!!!! No doubt, your items will be a huge hit at the fair!
I think I have a new favorite 😉 Can’t wait to get my hands on it. I’m totally with you about the grayed down version of purple. Have a great time at Lucketts.
I’m not sure if it’s my monitor or my eyes, but this doesn’t look lavender. It’s a lovely color, what ever it is and I think it will sell well. I’e just got to get the nerve to try some of the hand work you do…one of these days/years! You’ll knock them out of the park at Luckett’s, so pack lots!
It has a lavender tint – I don’t think it is as evident in the photos but in person you can see it. However no one is going to come in to the room and say “Wow you have a purple dresser in your room”. It has a lot of smokey gray in it. It is very soft and pretty. Of course I’m bias!
MMS’s Mom
I love the new color, too! Gorgeous! Wish I could come to the Lucketts fair…maybe next year! 🙂
The purple/gray color is beautiful. Wish I lived closer – the dresser would be perfect in my little girl’s bedroom! $285 – what a steal
I plan to paint my kitchen cabinets using your Kitchen Scale & Linen. Do you know if Benjamin Moore or Sherwin-Williams has matching colors for my walls? I don’t have milk paint samples to compare.
This dresser looks absolutely beautiful!! Love the smoky purple color.
This a color to die for! Just my bad luck I can´t get hold of it here in Sweden, let alone France!
Love the new paint color! Best wishes for your stall at the Lucketts show: wish I could go, but I am finding solace in the Springfield Flea Market and Antiques Extravaganza in Springfield, Ohio this weekend. Over 2000 vendors, woo hoo! I wish I knew if any of them will be selling your paint there this weekend-I’d make sure to stop by for a purchase.
Oh I love it! It’s the perfect shade…can’t wait to try it
Nancy
I think this is my favorite MMS paint color yet!
When will the new colors be available? 🙂
Marian,
If you like smoky purples, check out “London Coach” (either Home Depot or Lowe’s). Painted my bathroom and bedroom this color and fell in love with it.
Alicia
In love with the dried lavender! Cannot wait to paint with it!
