More Bedding, After Christmas Sales and Goodwill Goodies

I have a lot of stuff to pack into this post, so hang on tight and stick with me.  First of all, I wanted to share the quilt I purchased with one of my Wal-Mart gift cards to use in my Master Bedroom Makeover.  I just bought the brown version of this light-weight quilt to go under the white duvet cover I purchased from Kohls yesterday.
I bought a test pot of the Sea Salt to try a few swatches of color.  I am still debating.  Thanks for all of the suggestions and advice.  It helped alot and didn’t help at all at the same time, if that’s possible!  I’m still going back and forth, weighing my options.
I hit some really great sales on the day after Christmas.  I dragged my mother-in-law out at 7:00 am to fight the crowds for the best stuff.  We were about the only people at Wal-Mart at that hour, so I felt a little funny about my paranoia.  Anyway, I bought lots of ornaments for 50% off.  Most of them ended up being $.50-$1.00 each or less for the large packs.
I also bought two little trees for $2.50 each, a pair of 4′ topiaries for $20, and this pretty brushed nickel wreath holder with a bird perched on top for $10.
My greatest bargain was a sleve of shatter proof silver ornaments from Target that I found at Goodwill.  They were marked $.99, due to a missing ornament, and were 75% off on top of that. I ended up getting them for $.24!
More Goodwill goodies included this heavy silver plated tray for $2.97…
…a bamboo tissue box cover for $1.97, a chalk board for $2.97…
…and this two-tiered aluminum stand for $6.97.  I love this thing, but the bow on top has GOT TO GO.  I need to figure out how to find a good replacement piece.  I’d like to find a simple ring, but we’ll see.

Keep the suggestions on my bedroom paint color coming.  I really enjoy hearing the opinions of others and I’m hoping they will help me make a decision.

  1. Ha! The suggestions helped, but they didn't! Geeze, lady, what do you want!? ; )

I love all your finds ~ that chalkboard looks pretty good already. I didn't hit one sale, intentionally, after Christmas. Yet, anyway. I did buy a couple of things online that were Christmas clearance and when I went to Rite Aid today for something totally not Christmas I walked out with a Snowman and two peppermint stick looking candles that came with glass dishes.

I'm hoping to hit Tuesday Morning, Pier 1 and Michaels this week after work and see what I can find.

  2. I'm with Beth. I'm totally staying outa the stores until I purge some stuff I do not want. But then again, the good could replace the bad.. hmm…. I'm still with Beth. It's not working. 🙂

As for the shade, I've always found that if I chose a colour, going deeper than intended gave me the results I was after but was afraid to do at first. That may be worth a thought if you go Sea Salt. If you're gonna do it, do it to the max. 🙂

  3. My next post is going to be after Xmas bargains, too. I didn't get as much–I NEED to hit Goodwill. I'm painting my daughter's room GREY starting tomorrow! I'm not sure I'll like it. (I bought a test gallon!)

  4. I really like your bargain finds.
I kinda like the bow on top of the three tiered plate. The chalkboard is cool.
I found a few things at Goodwill today, nothing big. The place was packed!! Looked like Christmas all over again.
    Ain't it fun!!!

  5. No thrift store shopping for me yet after the holidays…between the snow and getting the relatives to the airport I've had very little time for shopping. That's probably a good thing right now, gotta pay those Christmas bills!
I'm getting ready to start a guest room redo (now that company is gone). I'm going to get paint tomorrow and hopefully finish up the project before I go back to work next week. (Notice I said hopefully!)
Good luck with your master bedroom redo. I look forward to seeing the progress.

  6. great finds.
For the two-tiered aluminum stand… what about one of those finials you can sometimes on top of lamp shades? There is quite a variety and you might find one that fits.

  7. You found some fantastic buys! I decided I can't buy any more holiday decorations until I figure out some storage space in this house or garage! We ran out of that long ago, and are tripping over things in the garage as we get to our cars.

  8. I always love to see what "trash" you have discovered! Such a talent for seeing past the obvious.
As for your bedroom, I realize my vote is late but… I used a color similar to your Sea Salt on the walls of my bedroom several years ago. I have a rather high tray ceiling and painted it two tones of tan. The woodwood is off-white; casegoods are dark and the linens are various shades of blue and tan. It is my favorite room to be in. Cozy but not confining. I was unsure at the time but did it anyway (it's only paint, right?) But I love it and would not consider changing it ever.

    Good Luck!

  9. I think you have to go with the taupe family for the paint…. the deeper tones will pop all your ironstone pieces and will make you feel warm and cozy!!
