Thanks and Finds

I loved reading the comments about my antlers.  You guys should never feel bad about not liking something and saying so.  I love the freedom and honesty you all shared, so thanks.  Some made me laugh, some made me think, some were encouraging…  It was quite a mixed bag.

So, here’s the funny thing about the antlers.  I don’t hunt and never have in my life.  I don’t have any desire to.  I hate deer meat and really don’t even like steak very much.  There was a time when I was a vegetarian and, on top of all of that, I made my grandfather take a deer head down from his den wall, because it gave me nightmares when I was a girl.  With all of that in mind, isn’t it funny that I have no problem hanging them on my wall?  It’s purely a home decor thing for me.

So, I’m still mulling it over. I’m leaving them there for now and we’ll see where my creative juices take me.
Yesterday, I was able to hit some yard sales and by about 10:00, I had only spent fifty cents on a DVD (We Are Marshall.)  It was looking like the day was going to be a bust.  Then I found a neighborhood yard sale.  Woo hoo!  After the first few houses I hit, there really wasn’t any good stuff.  Maybe it was just too late in the morning for awesome finds.
I did get three vintage baseballs for free.  The “seller” asked me if I played baseball…I snorted and told him I was going to use them to decorate my sons’ vintage sports themed room.  Seriously.  Do I look like I play baseball?
After a few more yard sales with overpriced 1980’s decor, balled up clothing, and footbaths (Why is there one at every yard sale?), I stumbled upon the sale that was meant for me.
I bought this antique wood and plaster frame for $3.00…
…a white handmade pitcher for $1.00 (I know it sort of looks like ironstone, but it’s not.)…
…and square ironstone bowl for $2.00…
…a green enamel wash bowl for $2.00…
…and my very favorite find…
…a 1949 alarm clock (that still works) for $8.00.  It has the greatest “tick.”
…and something that is a little less photogenic, but still a great find…a Dremel tool with loads of attachments for $30.00  It’s practically brand new.
I hope my fellow “hunters and gatherers” found some great things this weekend as well.

  1. Not much luck here this weekend. You found some great things. I love the frame and the ironstone bowl. I love that it's square! The clock is very cool too but it couldn't go in my bedroom, the tick would drive me nuts at night. I'm the kind of person that can hear water dripping and not be able to sleep until someone fixed it! Looks great with those fans.

  2. That is a good haul! Have you used a Dremel before? I was underwhelmed, but maybe expecting too much of it (luckily it was free).

  3. Wow! Wonderful finds! I love everything!

I also love your antlers! I have a small collection and I think they add so much to wall groupings! So very Charles Faudree…don't you think?!

    Happy Sunday!

  4. You got a dremel! I need one of those I want to cut a whole through some ceramic and was told I need one of those to do so. Wish I could find one for $30!

  5. Those baseballs are totally fun and will look great in a themed room. Kind of like those silver French game balls that look so pretty in a bowl.
As for my weekend finds, I went to a doll show and found load of lace and ribbon, doll parts, and ephemera (including the ever coveted Halloween goodies). Now I've just got to figure out how to display them!

  6. I love the frame you found. I'm on vacation but I still visited a thrift shop and picked up a great table with a lot of character. I found a couple of end tables I dearly wanted, but darn, we still have to get the luggage in the SUV too! LOL! I can't wait to pick up some great things next weekend, hopefully.

  7. I love all of your white goodies and clocks, but I have to say that "We Are Marshall" for .50 is a deal…love that movie!

  8. Love all your finds! I was at First Monday in Canton Texas………found some stuff BUT I was so HOT I did not even buy! The car temp read 114. Of course it was sitting the sun but the windows were down some. Glad your weekend was not a bust.

  9. Ooh, good stuff! I love the blue enamel pan, I can't believe I passed up a pink one!!! I've been crying ever since.LOL!

I collect vintage clocks and yours is wonderful. Nice and crusty looking.

  10. What great finds!! Love the clock!
I found two grandchildren wandering around. Ha! I decided to let them come in a play. We have been crafting all day!!

  11. I seriously need to start yard sale-ing more (spelling? haha)! We have sooo many yard sales around here, and I hardly ever get out to them. I'm going to start taking advantage of them more this summer! You certainly scored some great finds!

  12. Love the frame and my dad had a alarm clock like that when it went off it was so loud it could wake up the whole neighborhood. I wonder how he slept the loud tick tock? Does yours have the glow in the dark numbers?

  13. So very jealous of your dremel find! Among it's many uses, I recently found out from the vet that it's great for nail grinding on dogs! I've got to get on the yard sale bandwagon, but I love my Saturday morning sleep-in sessions a little too much.

  14. We love that movie, We Are Marshall!

    I love finding antique frames.

So glad you finally found the sales that held the treasures.

  15. Hmm, I am not a big fan of antlers on the wall either. But two years ago while vacationing in the States/Canada I saw some awesome antler wreaths. They were made from antlers that were shed naturally so no dear had to be killed in the making of them.
But anyway, you do what feels right to you, it is your home after all.
Gorgeous finds. Good for you that you kept at it, and didn't go home to early.

  16. Did you know that Deer and other antlered creatures shed these naturally? At least that's what I've been told.
You can buy them on eBay. Apparently people come across them on the wild strewn about.

  17. Just found your blog after looking up painters drop cloths, I am a dumpster diver, Queen of garage sales, after arriving in this country from New Zealand 19 years ago with my family and 8 suitcases I have a home filled with fabulous stuff all second hand, absolutely love it….
