I had a lot of conference calls, administrative duties, e-mailing, etc. to take care of this week, which is necessary, but it sometimes bogs me down. So, today I took some time to work in my basement on furniture. I’ll show the pieces I was working on in a few days, but I spent the bulk of my time on the phonograph I picked up in a furniture lot I bought for Lucketts. The phonograph was sort of an add on, but it was the piece I wanted most.
I’ve wanted one for years, but couldn’t take the $400 price tag on something that was just for my amusement. This one had a lot of water damage. The wood was dry and the finish was flaking, but it was still in working condition and I knew I could give the TLC it needed. The bottom 12-18″ of the veneer on all sides was splintered and bubbled. So, I’ve been working on it bit by bit…stripping, sanding, gluing, clamping, scoring & removing the veneer that needs to be replaced. Today, I got it to the point I could put Hemp Oil on the refinished wood. It’s coming to life and starting to look like it did almost 100 years ago. I can’t wait to get it finished, but I’m still working on the doors, interior and we need to replace some of the veneer. Bit by bit…
Anyway, onto the furniture party and my favorites from last week.
Olivia of The Wannabe Cowgirl is so clever. She turned a dated book cart from a library into shoe/boot storage to keep by the front door. The piece is perfection, now. (You should also check out Olivia’s story. She’s a pursuer of dreams.)
Christina from Remodelando la Casa reupholstered a regular ole desk chair with some burlap sacks giving it a whole new life. This is such a great idea for those boring chairs you can find everywhere!
Heather from The Heathered Nest gave an overly formal caned settee a fresh, classic look with blue & white toiled and a fresh coat of paint. It looks beautiful in her room (and you know I love the drapes and cow painting!)
Here are the rules for our furniture get-together…
1.) Your post has to be about furniture. Please, please, please…just furniture. If you find your link has been deleted, it’s not because I’m mean, it’s because your post was not about furniture. You can share makeovers, awesome finds, favorite pieces, furniture arrangements, or even pieces on your wish list! Built-in furniture like kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities qualify as furniture.
2.) Post a permalink (the link to the post), not the link to your blog.
3.) This party will close Friday at midnight PST and I will choose my favorite(s) and feature their piece(s) on next week’s FFF. Enjoy the party!

Marion, over the moon excited you featured our little settee…especially since the whole room was inspired by YOU!! Thanks so very much. You’re the best!
Thank you so much for the feature! I’ve been a long time admirer of your site, and all of the beautiful projects you create and showcase! We lost a few animals on the farm this week, so this post was a wonderful bright spot in a tough couple of days:) Thanks again!!!!!
Thanks so much for the party! Hope you have a fabulous weekend!
Love Friday Feature! #20 antique sideboard is “featured” week after week after week. Just saying….
No. 5 is not about a reupholstered chair, it’s about outdoor photography!
Just dawned on me after looking at your webpage again…did the name “Miss Mustard Seed” com from the biblical reference to faith? I’m curious now!!! Blogging and entrepreneurship certainly takes a lot of faith and trusting God to do big things from just a small “seed”!
Hi there, I’m new here! Thanks for hosting this lovely party! Blessings, Cecilia
