The mom behind Miss Mustard Seed

A lot of people have supported and encouraged me in my business, but I never would’ve taken the plunge without my mom.

My husband always helps me with woodworking projects, moving furniture, running errands, proof reading articles, brainstorming, watching the kids, and setting goals.  My Dad encourages me, was one of my investors and sat with me in the rain at last years May fair.  My aunt has given me free furniture.  My brother hosts my website and helped me develop my name.

But it was my mom who said, “Do it.”

She took me shopping for the equipment I needed to get started.  She took me from shop to shop to find a place to sell my work.  She bought me Quickbooks and training with an accountant. She reads every single blog post and calls every day to see if I have any new opportunities or sponsors.  She reads most of your comments and some of your blogs.  She even checks out my Alexa ranking daily.

I get my drive and work ethic from her…as well as my slightly compulsive nature.

I love you, Mom.  Thanks so much for everything you have done for me.

She’s coming up next week to help me for the Lucketts fair and I have an apron all ready for her…
(It says “Miss Mustard Seed’s Mom” in case you have trouble reading it.  It was custom made by Leslie.)
So, to all mothers out there…I hope your kids are very sweet to you today.  For those who have lost children or mothers, I hope you will have comfort and joy in the memory of your loved ones.
Happy Mother’s Day!

  18. Marian! I loved this post…You are so lucky to have such a great Mama! 🙂 She is what my Gramma is to me…:) Your mother, your cheer leader, your teacher, your counselor and your secret keeper…oh and side kick! 😉

To Marian's Mama…You have done a wonderful job! Marian seems to have it all around…talent, goals, beauty, happiness, family, faith… but most of all she is role model for so many aspiring business women, mothers and homemakers…She encourages them to take the leap of faith…and to go further than they thought they could…That in itself is such a gift to so many!

Thank you MMSM, for cultivating such creativity in your daughter and supporting her while she inspires us!

  21. Your Mom sounds like an angel. And, that picture of you two is so cute! Thanks for remembering those of us who have lost our Moms. I think of her everyday and all her terrific talents. She was doing faux painting and slipcovering WAY before it was cool! I try to tap into her spirit when I take on projects. My memories of her do help to make the loss a little easier. Maureen in NJ

  24. So sweet! Your mom sounds amazing!
She left me a comment on my blog once. She signed it Miss Mustard Seed's Mom! I thought it was so cute! 🙂
Hope you had a great Mother's Day!

  25. Thank you, Marian, for thinking of those who have lost their Mother. It is such a bitter sweet day. Thankful for the love only a Mother can give and yet not able to give her a hug and saying thank you. Please give your Mom a hug from all of us who can't. Keep up your wonderful work and blog.

  26. Marian,
Glad I could make your special mom a special apron. Sorry I didn't notice until today (may daughter informed me)…I'm at Disney World with the other daughter and son-in-law.

  27. Isn't it GREAT to have a supportive mom. My mom has been the biggest fan in my life, and can give honest criticism, too, when I brace myself and ask for it…but ALWAYS with kindness. I honestly don't know where I'd be without her. Of course, I haven't had my big break like you have, but, I don't know that I'm ready for that yet. Yeah, see. She overdosed me on confidence as well. 🙂 Honestly, though, if it never does come, I'm happy with my life as it is. 🙂

  28. No heavy prep work I am already in love with chalk paint! I would love, love, love to try out Old White and Louis Blue.
    Thanks,
    Shaena

  29. I love the chalk paint. All of your pieces look beautiful. I would like to try the graphite and old white.

    Thank you!

  30. Lovely post! I feel the same about my Mom. I bet this made your Mom a little weepy. I'm sorry I just read this post now and didn't see her at the market.

  31. You are so blessed to have someone who is so supportive in a kick ass get going way. That person is your Mother is a double blessing. Thanks for this business series – it is enolightening
