About a week before Lucketts this year, I picked up a beautiful primitive hutch off Craig’s List.  The lovely lady I bought it from was moving and needed to sell it.  It seemed meant to be.  I got a good price for it and she gets to pay virtual visits to the hutch whenever she wants!  (She is a MMS blog reader, coincidentally)  The hutch was beautiful, but the blue was a touch too bright for me, so I carefully painted it.  (You can read about the process HERE.)

I haven’t done a full photo shoot with it, yet, but I snapped some pictures of it and couldn’t help but share them…

I’m very pleased with how I was able to paint it without losing the character in the finish.  It really is a special piece and I’m totally in love with it.

…and can’t you tell I’m enjoying my new hydrangea bush?

One last thing…  I shared about Barn & Willow, the maker of the beautiful Belgian linen curtains in my family room, a week or so ago.  Well, they are now offering an exclusive coupon code for MMS readers.  Just enter MMSJULY4TH to get a 15% discount now through July 31, 2014.  Curtains like these are a big investment, so this is a way to get them for a little less.

Love it, but let us see a picture of the whole cupboard! 🙂

Marian! It is soooo beautiful. I’m a big follower and re-read many of your posts but probably only sent a comment once or twice but this time I couldn’t help myself…..it is just georgeous! Love it. You have inspired me to make many changes in my home and to start a collection of ironstone. I just wish I could find the spark to continue with my blog, instead I spend all my spare time reading them! Ha! Enjoy your day.

I love the cabinet and that you left the inside unpainted. Beautiful, as always!

I can’t wait to hear how you toned it down and kept all that patina! It’s beautiful!!

    5. Jill

Love the hutch! And I too can’t wait to hear bow you kept the patina! I have some awesome shutters hanging in my dining room that I consider painting every so often! But don’t know how to do it w/o painting the patina that make them so charming!

Love reading your blog everyday. Just saying – since your new camera, all your pictures that have any background light are all washed out. The pictures of your Hutch presentation are awesome until the photos of the draperies today. I cannot even see them nor anything on your sofa. Is this a problem for anyone else or just me and my computer??

The final picture is somewhat washed out. I can see the design on the items on the couch but it is very faint.

I think it may be a difference of monitors… It is a little on the overexposed side, because I like pictures to look bright, but I can see the detail on my monitor. I switched computers around the time I switched cameras, so I think the two combined makes my pictures look different. I’ll have to check them out on my old monitor, but they look great on my Mac laptop, iPad and iPhone…

I, too, cannot see the drapery picture. It is so bright white that I can’t distinguish much but the bluish wall, ironstone plates and settee. I know when I post pictures or anything else with color, I have to check the view on other computers to see how it is really coming through, despite what I see. Not ideal, yet typical for the present tech world. Believe me, learning to photograph with creativity, good composition and balance of light is an ongoing struggle for this girl! You are an inspiration to us all, Marian! We continue to learn from you always!

Love the hutch! Love reading your blogs. I don’t know how I never noticed the lovely blue paint color above your wainscoting. I’m driving myself crazy picking a blue for my bedroom. I have a patchwork paint quilt all over my walls with “BLUES”! Please tell me the brand and name of that color.

      Thank you….Bonnie

Just to add to what the others said….I have the same problem when viewing your pictures ever since your new camera. I can’t see any detail, everything is just a white out. The curtains are non distinguishable from the walls. I noticed this especially with your kitchen shots because your kitchen has a lot of white. This is true on my brand new desktop as well as my older mac laptop. That said, the colors look fantastic and really pop. I love your posts!

Oh the hutch is special for sure! The color is so beautiful and the hardware…..gorgeous! To add about the second pic….If I have my mouse on the pic it does white out, but when I move it I can see just fine.

Love this! Very pretty and the hydrangea is lovely. 🙂

Dumb question… where’d your blog go with your new site design? I couldn’t find today’s post without going to FB to get the link. Help? Thanks so much!

      • Deborah

Marion’s blog disappeared for me too, along with the emails. I’ve signed up again and this seems to be working.

The photos are in ‘white out’ for me too, and have been for a while. The ones with pops of colour like the dresser are fine, the family room ones look like they are inhabited by a family of Caspers!

Doh! I just went back you your home page… I see the posts. They are just in a different format. Sorry about that!!!

What do you mean by that? You’re not receiving the feed or when you click on the URL, you aren’t seeing it?

        • Beth

Hi Marian, thanks for replying. Your old site/blog showed a list of your latest blog posts. It doesn’t anymore. I had to go to your FB page to see if there was a new blog post. I love the new design, but it was frustrating because I couldn’t find your latest post. Where’d your blog go?

    11. Suzen

Washed out for me too! Can we see a pic of the whole hutch? Your blogs are so inspiring…….thank you….Jeff’s are fabulous too!

    12. MaryLisa Noyes

I love your hutch from the minute you let us peek at it in your last post. I’m on the hunt for one this weekend at the Funky Junk Sister’s Vintage Show here in Wa. state. Can’t wait to see the paint process. You really captured a great color….

    13. Debra

I can see why the love affair. It’s beautiful.

Have to say I liked the way your other site was set up….Maybe I’m too old but it’s very faded looking and hard to read. Print is way too small for my eyes! Colors looked truer on the other site too. These pictures look like you are using a filter and brightness not coming through for me. Am I alone in thinking this? I know you work extremely hard at your pictures, material, and presentations and might feel like you need to change things up every once in a while but why fix what’s not broken?
” I’m just saying’ “… I applaud all your hard work but really liked the other site better.

      • marian

Thanks for the feedback! We did change the layout of the blog, but there aren’t any filters or anything and the text is the same size and color as it was before. I’m not really sure what’s up…

    15. Danielle

      Beautiful! x

    16. Janine

I can’t see the curtains very well either and my computer is only 1 year old. Please tone down the “brightness”.

    17. Hope Allen

When my hubby and I first moved in with each other before we married, 16 years ago, our first furniture purchase was a pine television armoire. It’s tall with great lines but It’s plain and beatin up from our three daughters. I can’t get myself to paint it. I don’t know why. It’s the first thing people see when they enter our living room too. Why can’t I just pull the trigger and paint it? Any advise would be wonderful.
