Lucketts & the “big thing”

Before I get to the “big thing” I’m working on, I wanted to let you know about a special event happening at Lucketts this weekend.  Not only is the Design House going to be open, but a very special guest will be there…Dinah Corley, the author of Gourmet Gifts, for a book signing.  The book looks like a feast for the eyes and I’ve heard that Dinah is a delight.  Here are a couple of photos from her website…

Beautiful, right?  There will also be doughnuts to snack on while you’re shopping, a wreath-making demo on Saturday and smores and Christmas lights Friday from 5-8pm.  Oh, I wish I could go!  It’s going to be a special weekend, so try to make it if you can.

Speaking of Lucketts, I’m going there tomorrow to downsize my space.  I’m moving to a small alcove in Karen’s room on the first floor.   It’s a little sad to move out of my third floor room with beautiful light and freshly painted walls, but it’s a relief too.  The space was a big one and I was struggling to keep it full.  For the next three months, though, my space at Lucketts will mostly be maintained by my roomie and great friend, Karen.  This scaling back is due to my big news.  The “big thing” I’ve been talking about here and there.

Almost a year ago, I started writing a book and shared about it in a post.  I planned to pick away at it and sell it as an e-book or through a self-publishing website.  My business started to really pick up, so I put it on the back burner.  Then, on a totally ordinary day, I received a call from a publishing company.  After months of waiting and tweaking the concept, I received and signed the offer last week.  I’m teetering between elation and terror at the moment, but I’m getting a big calendar to keep myself on track, Mini’s back to help and I know it’s in me to do this.  Just keep me in your prayers, because I definitely need it!  I’ll let you in on more details as they develop.

  2. Congratulations!!!! That is such great news for you and for us too… to have all your great ideas and instructions about transforming our homes in one place. Will the title still be “Moving Mountains in Your Home”.? As far as your Luckett space, it reminds me of another Bible verse…”To everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven”.

*previous post comment {lazy} Love the spot for the new tv. That is going to make such a difference in that room and so much more functional. Yahoo for black friday online sales!

  10. Half a year ago when an editor knocked on my own door, you supported me but I know how hard it was when you also felt ready.

But I knew your turn was right around the corner. No doubt in my mind. My only question is, what took them so long. 🙂

Congrats! You CAN do this! My coffee table is waiting for your book.

Hmmm.. we’ve had this conversation before haven’t we? 🙂

  14. This is BIG and exciting news Marian! I can certainly undertsand the terror but just remember that God will light each step for you along the way – I bet it will be a fantastic experience!

  15. How wonderful!!! This is great news, and it seems to have happened at a time when you are ready for the challenge.

One unexpected benefit of downsizing from your third floor space to this smaller one on the first floor is that you will no longer have to haul your large pieces up those scary stairs. I will definitely miss being greeted by your sunny space and lovely merchandise as I crest the stairs while I’m shopping, tho.

  16. WOOT, WOOT!

  20. I knew a long time ago that this would happen! You have great talent that we have all watched blossom! Congratulations and may the Lord Bless you on your new path!

  21. If anyone can, Marian can!
Two years ago when I started on the blog wagon there were two bloggers I felt had endless possibilities; so now hearing this wonderful book news I’m wondering could there be a movie in the wind?
“D&MTV”? ” Marian & Donna remodel the White House” ?
I couldn’t be happier for you and sending blessings of joy.

  22. Oh I just knew big things are in your future! You have what it takes girl. Can’t wait to read it!!!!

  23. THAT is amazing news!! I kinda had an inkling that’s what all this was leading up to, but I’ve been sooo wrong about that stuff before. LOL!! I can’t wait to see the finished product, just like so many others! Huge Cognrats and a big ol’ hug for “doing it!”

  24. Congratulations on your new endeavor!!!

I’ve co-authored two books myself (scrapbook idea books) …has anyone talked to you about the concept of thumbnails? Originally I thought it was the HUGEST tedious waste of time but about 1/2 way into the project I understood why they were so important. The concept is that you map out the ENTIRE book in miniature “thumbnail” form. You don’t have to know everything about what you want to include you just have a map and basic ideas about what will go where and on what page. It’s EXTREMELY helpful as you go through the project. Let me know if you’d like more info and we can chat.

  25. Congratulations on your book deal! I’m an overseas admirer (from tiny Belgium that finally seems to have a government after +500 days without…) and am really amazed by everything you have achieved. You are such an example to me, a continuous motivation that, yes, I can too! Thank you for this.

  26. Congrats Marian….you have been so supportive for newbie bloggers like Sharon and I. I pray nothing but the best for you on your new adventure! Julie

  27. Congratulations on your book deal! I can’t wait to be able to visit the bookstore to buy books by the authors of my two favorite blogs (Miss Mustard Seed and Young House Love). Looking forward to hearing details about content and the release date!

  28. Yeh! for you. You deserve the opportunity. Your are so consistent and so professional. Your blog is a joy to read and I look forward to reading it everyday. I appreciate that you seem so honest and open and talk about life as you experience it. You smatter in just enough about your husband and children, but not too much to invade their personal life. I look forward to the finished book and will buy it when available. Because of you we have a wonderful homey Christmas tree decorated with homemade book page ornaments that is just gorgeous. You inspire me! I wish you well in all your endeavors. Breath deeply, pray often and enjoy this joyous Christmas season.

  29. Good things happen to good people in due time. Your Due Time is here. Congratulations. You’re going to hit a homerun with your book. I just know it.

  30. Congratulations :-). I am so happy for you and excited to see the finished result. You have been working hard and good things are coming your way.

  31. Congratulations, Marian! I’m so happy for you. I’m guessing your book will be a huge success, and I love the way the title harks to your signature scripture.

One thing I’d like to tell you. I’m so glad you have a publisher, and I know you’ll have a great editor. But in the meantime, if you ever have an editing question, please feel free to shoot me an email. I was trained an English grammar teacher, and my background includes teaching, writing, and editing. I’d be very happy to answer any questions you may have about grammar, word usage, etc. You have an excellent writing style, and I don’t imagine you’d have very many questions–but I’d be delighted to help if ever I can. I’m so proud of you!

  32. Woo hoo! Rock it out. I’m sure it’ll flow out of you very easily. I’m very excited for you, and for the book!

  33. Congratulations. Your book will end up being a go to gift for a lot of people I know. Very excited for you

  34. Congratulations, Marian! I’m so thrilled for you but not at ALL surprised to see your hard work pay off! May God continue to bless the labors of your hands!
    Shilo

  35. so ditto on all above. my 2 cents ;). your book will be as beautiful as your blog! you deserve this not only because you recreate such awsome projects, you are talented, but its obvious you are a beautiful on the inside as wel!l of all of the blogeristas out there you are one of the most giving. so rockon sista 😉

  36. I found your blog only a couple of months ago, and now I check it several times a day to see if I’ve missed anything. You’ve obviously been a blessing to so many people. This book deal is just an example of how you reap what you sow. Congratulations to you! You’re such an inspiration 🙂

  37. Woo hoo! Congrats! There’s nothing like that first sale experience … and writing to deadline. I don’t know if non-fiction is anything like fiction but be ready for days when you can’t write coherent English 🙂 But that’s okay, you can always edit it and fix it the next day 🙂

  38. That is wonderful news!
Congratulations — although as you toil over your keyboard, you may wonder if “sympathy” might not be more appropriate. It will be a lot of work, and you are wise to scale back elsewhere.

Tell the Fat Witch that sits on every writer’s shoulder and tells her “it’s no good!” to SHUT UP, and just WRITE.
You’ll get it done, and in time, too.

What lovely, happy news. You have worked hard, and worked smart, and deserve great success.
(I thought maybe you were working on another little human!)
    All best wishes,
    Cass

  39. Congratulations on your book acceptance! I know that terrified feeling. When the American Quilter’s Society contacted me to let me know that they would publish my book “Pine Tree Quilts”, I found myself driving down the street thinking, “Oh my, now I have to actually write the whole thing!” Up to that point it was outlined and a couple of chapters and introduction were written, but it was a great experience and I learned a LOT! You will do great! You already have an audience!

  40. Congratulations on your book deal! You are such a hard worker; I know God will honor that. I hope you can come to Wisconsin for a book signing and then I could meet you in real life! I’d take you to an awesome auction!

  41. Can’t wait to buy your book when complete. So fun! Seriously, just keep telling yourself… so fun!

  42. Dear MMS,
What can I say that hasn’t already been said except, amen.
You are such a caring, sharing lady that I know you will be a success in your latest endevour.
A heart-felt thank you for giving so much of yourself.
    Blessings,
    Robin

  43. Congratulations on the book offer. How exciting but also very scary at the same time. I look forward to it. Your ideas and home are amazing. I love the before and afters. It inspires me to try the same in my home, which I did not think was possible.

    Ruth

  44. You have very successful at everything you have tried to do, so no doubt your book will be successful too! I can’t wait to hear more about it. Congratulations and I wish you the best of luck – you know we all have your back!

  45. Congrats, MMS! You are such an inspiriation to me. I have recently plunged in to re-purposing furniture and accessories and will continue to be a follower. All the best and can’t wait til the book arrives!

  46. Congratulations Marian!!

You surely deserve it as you have been such a wonderful teacher to your readers through this blog. I look forward to getting on the pre-sale list when it is ready!

    Jenny

  47. That is so exciting and YOU will be able to do it. God thought so and that is why you have this opportunity. I see a tv show for you in the future teaching us all your new ideas and of course what would a MMS show be without a special segment with Mini MS! Congratulations and cannot wait to buy it!

    Kathy

  48. Marian,
Congratulations! You deserve all good things and we’ll now have a book that will undoubtedly be filled with great ideas and inspiration for your loyal fans.
    Best of luck to you.
    Karen

  49. Ooh, how exciting. I cannot wait to get my grubby little hands on this book. Also, my MasterCard would like to thank you for re-kindling my lust for Ironstone….it exploded into flames over the weekend. It is so wonderful to see someone start with a small spark and burst into new and fantastic adventures. Many congratulations to you I know you will be a success.

    God Bless and Merry Christmas

  50. What wonderful news! I’ll be the first in line at the bookstore the day it comes out!

Will be praying for you, specifically for clarity of mind and for time on your hands to tackle this project. Go get ’em, girl – you can do it!

  51. What an accomplishment!! You are such a hardworking and creative woman! I’m sure all of your followers will be wanting to purchase your book!!

  52. First, Congratulations…always believe in yourself.
Second, payers are headed your way.

Best of luck on your new adventure.

  53. WOW! I’m so ecstatic for you!!!! Always remember what my hubby says to me when I get too many things going on in my life….”you can only eat an elephant , ONE BITE AT A TIME!”
So remember, baby steps and you’ll accomplish your goals!
    Hugs!!

  54. I cannot wait to get my hands on your book! You have a wonderful perspective that is fresh and relaxed and natural with just enough elegance. It’s a gift!!!! I think that we are blessed to have you as an example of what we can achieve when we follow our instincts and dreams. Just saying! Keep plugging away at it and I’ll be waiting in line when it’s done.

  55. Great News!! I read in a lot of the above comments that you have lots of volunteers. Keep me in mind if you want some bright colors of linen napkins run up. I hope you don’t have to do all the photography yourself. If you need someone to road test the directions, I am available. Despite all my degrees, etc, my creative brain doesn’t always work, so I find all the glitches in directions. Don’t let anyone tell you are lucky, you worked hard for this and created your own “luck.” Thrilled for you, Ann (nut bird)

  56. Wow oh wow – terrific news. I will buy the first copy!! It will be a best seller I am sure! Can’t wait. If you need any help with editing – let me know. If you need extra pics from a talented decorative painter in NY – let me know. Be glad to give!

    Linda

  57. Congratulations!!! Wonderfully exciting!!! There is that mustard seed action, proving itself one more time!

  58. Congratulations! I can tell you, the book-writing isn’t the hard part, it’s the editing & getting it just right that is. Good luck and be patient with yourself. You are pretty awesome.
