I painted my master bathroom a few weeks ago and have since been tweaking and adding to it. Seriously…is a room ever really, really done? Anyway, I added a small wooden bench for my toddlers to use for tooth-brushing and hand-washing and light switch-reaching. And I stole this basket from another room in the house to store our toilet paper in.
Why not make the utilitarian attractive? The other perk is I can always see when we’re down to the last roll.
I also found the perfect mirror to replace the not-hideous-but-not-my-taste oak framed mirror. I refinished this mirror frame to go in our bedroom, but it hit me that it would be perfect for the bathroom. My husband is going to hang it for me tomorrow and I’ll give you all the details about it.
And so the painting in the master bedroom begins…
Wednesday nights are one of my favorites because I have the house to myself for about 3 hours. Now, this may sound terrible to some of you, but if you’re a stay-at-home mom of toddlers, you understand the joys of time at home by yourself. So, I got my snack, my Diet Dr. Pepper, my favorite talk show playing, and got to painting.
Well, I had to remove all of the swtich plates first. People, if you’re painting, please do this. Don’t paint over your light switch plates. Or the light switches, for crying out loud. Just don’t do it. (Can you tell I’ve lived in a house where people did that?) What’s funny about this picture is you can tell how many colors this room has been. There’s the greenish gold color on the right and the blood red dripping down the center…
This morning, I finally came to terms with the fact that this would need two coats. Instead of wasting a gallon of expensive paint, I had a primer tinted to match the color for less than half the cost of buying a second gallon.
Tinted primer coat…done. One coat to go…
You know, it has become my opinion that everyone should move their furniture around at least once a year. It’s amazing to see the filth that is lurking in the unseen areas in even the cleanest of homes. I think that’s a Tostito chip back there…
I still have two more walls to finish painting tomorrow. I completed the walls with the dressers and the bed against them, so we could put most of the room back together again. Here’s a sneak peak…
It sort of looks like “neutral land” right now and I can’t wait to inject some color. There are just not enough hours in the day. More to come…

PS – If you missed my big announcement yesterday, make sure you check it out below! Also, come back for Furniture Feature Friday this week. If you linked up last week, I have not forgotten about you. I am going to feature some of my favorites in this week’s post. See you then!

Oh my…..I can't wait for the big reveal. The sneak peak is looking good.
I like the mirror! I am going to be on the lookout for a liitle stool like that. It is so much cuter than a plastic one we were gifted.
Can't wait to see your finished room!
I LOVE that color you chose. Very calming and serene. I can totally relate to "time alone" being married to a police officer – every other week he works the 4 to 11 shift. I get to enjoy watching HGTV in bed. Can't wait for the results. All the best, Lori
I love moving objects around in our home..it gives them new life!
I'm a new "follower" of your blog & I'm excited to see your upcoming reveals!
Have a great day!
So, are you like me in that, while painting one room, the rest of the house gets destroyed? Or am I just really messy when creativity strikes?!
Can't wait to see the big reveal!
I can't wait to see what it looks like. Is that a wreath with the sheet music? I try to move the furniture a couple times a year. I just did the master bedroom and I do believe I swept up enough dog hair for a litter of pups! My husband thinks that Great Danes don't shed!
I like the color you chose as well! Definitely seems to brighten up the room.
Thanks for sharing your snacks with us :P.
Like Megan up there ^^^ I love moving things around too. It's nice to hear someone else say it's a good idea to do so since I'm often teased for rearranging my space so often as a college student. Lovely post, and I can't wait to see the final result as well.
Best <3!
Love the new wall color. It is just gorgeous. The mirror frame looks fabulous too. Can't wait to see it all done. Hugs, Marty
Little stools are the best! My two toddlers love to haul theirs all over the house – they help cook, they wash their hands & brush their teeth. They each have one to get into their beds & then of course in the bathrooms 🙂
Can't wait to see the bedroom reveal – looks gorgeous so far!!
Wow, it looks different already, just with the blue gone! Can't wait to see those fabrics in the room.
I love having the house to myself and I love a freshly painted and cleaned room. Everything is looking fabulous!

I can't wait to see the finished product. I love the TP basket! I always like knowing how many roles are left. I freak if I get down to 2 rolls.
I will never understand why people paint over light switches our house has tons of those (I live in a rental) and it makes NO sense to me.
I like your color choice, but I'm partial to neutrals. So easy to inject some color.
I am so looking forward to the Workshop series!!
Your new color looks to be the same that I painted my materbath a few weekends ago! Very nice change!

I have been endlessly thinking about going neutral… at least in my bedroom. I have a super light blue in the house and I think that actually works as a neutral as I can work in any color as an accent. But my room is green right now and it's just major ick.
Oh, and YES on removing the switch plates! It takes 10 seconds and makes the room look 100% better. Also, don't paint cats on your switch plates. That's not cool either 🙂
Can't wait to see the finished room. I know it's gonna be great!
I've been off line a little lately, so I'm getting caught up finally! I can't wait for your new series. Your blog is a true creative inspiration! Thank you for sharing all your wonderful ideas 🙂
Caroline
I like it already!
It is going to be wonderful! I am getting my painting hands ready to tackle several rooms and am getting inspired. Thanks!!
The butter color is very calming and pretty…good choice!
It's good for every mom to have a little time to herself…but instead of healthy crackers…mine would be something much more fattening.:)
everything looks great!!!well…EXCEPT that nasty Cavalier can holder 😉 GO HOKIES!!! (but just for the record I went to undergrad at WMC, just right down the road from y'all in Westminster, MD:) )
Sneak peak looks great! I SOO know what you mean about having a few uninterrupted hours!! Gotta have the Diet Dr. Pepper too! 🙂
I Love how beautiful (and how inspiring) your home is. What I like the best is that your home is so beautiful and you showed us a picture of a tostito you found when you moved your furniture. It makes me feel better about all my dog hair that I battle every darn day.
Thank you.
Oh I know what you mean about always tweaking! I got my guest room bedroom painted last week and thought I would have it picture perfect by the end of the weekend but I am still tweaking! I'm having a difficult time at the moment with the bedding choice but I think I finally narrowed it down to the winner.
I'm looking forward to seeing how your master bedroom turns out.
Jane
I'm trying to get inspired to start painting our bedroom. January and February seem to be lazy months for me. Must be all the cold and gloom.
Can't wait to see the final reveal. I spent the last two days painting our guest room. We just moved into our home 2 months ago and we had a painter come in and paint most of it but not the guest room. I just went with a tan color because I already had the paint. I have a pretty tuffed headboard that is cream and it wouldn't have been my first choice to have tan but for now it will be fine. I still have to add my photos and such but I will blog about the finished product soon.
