A Scale, Spoons, & Halloween’s Over

After much work, two truckloads of trash, and a van load of stuff for the thrift store, the basement workshop is clean. We still have some organizing to do and a few projects to finish, but it will be so nice to have a clean and organized place to work.  I would’ve taken before pictures, but it was terrible.  Embarrassing, really.

So, instead of showing pictures of my basement, I’ll share a few other things.  First of all, I bought this really cool postal scale a few weeks ago off of one of my fellow Wild Rose vendors.  I have a soft spot for scales and I really loved the petite size of this one.

We had a little photo shoot together. Couldn’t help myself.

Next, I have to share another act of kindness from one of my readers.  I am constantly overwhelmed at how generous people have been with me (and other bloggers for that matter.)  You may remember the boxes of sheet music people sent me when I put out a call for help.  I still have three boxes of it!  Well, Anne (aka Nutbird) read about my frustration at the Raleigh Flea Market with the “spoon lady” and she sent me a flat rate box stuffed with beautiful silver plate flatware.  It blew the doors off anything the spoon lady had and tried to overcharge me for.  Anne sent it all to me for free.

The detail on some of the handles is amazing.  I haven’t counted the pieces, but she probably sent me almost a hundred.

I especially love the ones with monograms on them!

Another example of the kindness of bloggers is that one of my readers saw my post about my failure to provide Elise with a proper virtual makeover.  Well, it just so happens that’s her speciality and she’s offered a virtual makeover to Elise for free.  Isn’t that awesome?  I was speechless.  I’ll post all about her and her makeover ideas when she’s ready. I have the greatest readers.  Really.
And lastly, Halloween is finally over in the Mustard Seed household.  I finished my last HGTV.com Halloween project yesterday.  Whew.  Now, it’s on to Christmas projects.  I think I’ll be finished with them by the time Valentine’s day comes around.

My poor kids are going to be so confused, but it’s worth it.  I’m having a grand time.

  1. I love your scale and the Halloween project is really great, but I'm blown away by the kindness and generosity displayed by fellow bloggers towards you and Elise.Seeing these acts of kindness really helps to maintain your belief in humanity. You see so much ugliness in the world…this is just great!!!

  2. Yes, bloggers are the best. I adore Anne (Nutbird) and it doesn't surprise me that she would send along those spoons to you. They are beautiful! And, yay! I was hoping someone would offer to help Elise. It took a lot of honesty & courage to come forward and admit your "failure." (I do not, however, consider it a failure.) I'm catching up on blogs tonight as I've had nary a moment to hop and just wanted to congratulate you on achieving your goals & dreams, sweet Marian. Love your scale (and photos). I need to get me some Florabella textures soon. Did you use one on the BW/Sepia-ish photo?

  4. WOWuh!!! That Anne is a GENEROUS Nutbird! I am trying really hard not to be envious. 🙂 That collection of flatware is AMAZING.
side note.. I absolutely LOVE your dark floors. If we ever refinish our's I really think I'd like to go dark. They have such a rich, aged look. Makes for great pictures!

  5. We cleaned our basement today too! We donated 250 toys that our children were not using and it is a great feeling to let them go. I also found more Christmas ornaments to add to my already large collection. Funny things those basements are.

  6. Wow!! That silver plate flatware is amazing! 100 pieces!!?? How generous! What a fabulous gift!!
    And I love your bats!!

  7. Lovely spoons, lovely gesture! It confrims again and again my belief in the kindness of people.
I honestly have come across so much love and support in my life when I had a hard time or needed help, that and you have found this out as well .Cherish others and be there for them, and you get so much back !!
    Have a lovely Sunday.

  8. I love the scale! I buy them whenever I see them. I too am cleaning out the basement as alas winter is upon us and no more spray painting outside!@! I also make some primitive crafts and lighted trees during the holidays and I am now finished with that so I am clearing out things I don't use to donate to other crafter/junker friends! I hope to attend one of your junk swaps if you have another.

  9. Blogland is the BEST!! There is so much encouragement, support, and thoughtfulness out there, it constantly blows me away, Marian! I adore your little scale, and am swooning over your silverware. There's nothing like the patina of old flatware…. 🙂
