the bamboo mat

Since first showing the bamboo mat in my dining room, I have received tons of e-mails and questions about it, so I thought it was due time to write a “tell all” post.

I initially bought two mats wholesale from a friend to use in my tents at antique shows.  When they arrived, I couldn’t resist rolling one out in my dining room, which was rug-less.  I was pretty convinced it wouldn’t look right, but I can’t have something new come into my house without playing with it.  Well, my gut on that one was totally wrong.  It looked great

It brought something different to the room.  A little quirky and unexpected.
It’s been a great back drop for photo shoots…

…and fun to test in other rooms…

…and made its way into the wedding I decorated…

…my booth at the Lucketts Antique Market in May…
…and now in my room on the third floor at The Old Lucketts Store.

Can you tell I love this mat?
Want one?  I’ve seen different versions of this rug for sale at The Old Lucketts Store or you can order it online from French Freak.  At $149, this 6 x 10 mat is a great deal on a high impact piece.

  1. I love these mats I bought one a couple of years ago at a boutique the best thing about them is that they don't show the dog hair that my bullie leaves behind.

  2. Thanks for sharing with us about your mat. It's been printed and stuck up on my pinboard of inspiration since I first spotted it on your site months ago.

  3. totally thought you painted it yourself. now mere mortals who don't have killer painting skills can have one too! thanks for sharing. it sure is a great backdrop.

  4. I LOVE that rug! There is a fun little store here in Houston that carries those and I've always admired them. It really looks great in all your setting. I may just have to pop into my local store and see if they have any left!

  5. I"ve been wondering about that mat since the day I first saw it on your site. I, too, thought you'd painted it. Love it… can't wait to get it. $149 well spent.

  6. That's an amazingly versatile piece! It looks great no matter where you place it. Of course you have a great eye for decor so that really helps as well. I love it!

  7. I have loved those rugs for awhile… maybe I can put one on my birthday list… 🙂 It looks great in your house!

  8. Oh my goodness!! I love it! I'm not usually a "rug" person but this one quickly changed my mind!! Is it pretty easy to clean? It looks like it would be. It's beautiful, perfect, gorgeous!!

  9. Love it. It is the perfect rug for my new office/ guest room, I will be working on next. I have been searching high and low and this one hits the mark. Thanks so much for sharing it, and the link to buy.

  10. I noticed that on your site the other day. I remembered it from when Peacock park was featured in Where Women Create, the mat was spread out in that gorgeous conservatory (and I wanted them both) But I didn't think it would work on carpet. i didn't consider using it on a wooden floor but I am now! Yours looks fabulous!

  11. Hi! I've loved mine since the day I got it! Thank you so much for the tip. I was sure my email to you about it was one of many, so I really appreciate that you took time out to tell me, and especially that you felt ok to share it with me! My husband and I both adore it, and we can't thank you enough.

    Hugs,
    Sheila

  13. one of my favorite stores here sells these, and i'm always tempted. now that i have a place for one, i wonder if they're durable/easy to clean? i assume so, since yours looks so nice & has been so many places! our dining room takes a beating, so i need something functional.

  14. Just found you via Mrs. Limestone. Though it's very different from my own, I love your style and even more than that, I love how you write. It's so nice to read a beautiful blog written well and by someone who isn't snooty!

But one complaint: now I HAVE TO HAVE a dough bowl! I used to be a professional baker and would love to have one for my dining room table to remind me of a special time in my life.

  15. this is funny because today special at wuslu.com is this rug for $134 plus 5.00 shipping. It looks good in your house but I couldn't get away with it in my house. Lisa

  16. The rug has been a standout feature in your photos and I've admired it for a while. Like a lot of readers, I just assumed it was yours and was waiting for a "Now paint your own' tutorial! Wither way, it's the perfect choice for your decor.

Would look nice in mine too.

  17. I love the Painted Metal Accent Table because it is so versatile. It can be used in just about every room in your house and even outdoors. It would be perfect for serving ice-tea and finger foods on a hot day, or simply with a bowl of sea glass or succlents on it. The rug is gorgeous and would look fabulous in my home, wink, wink!

  18. Visited WUSLU and its past sales. My favorite item is the "You're My Sunshine" subway sign. This is the song I sang often to my daughter as she was growing up (now 30!) We still include those sweet and memorable words in our correspondence as we now live many miles apart.
I have a strong LOVE for typography and especially the vintage touch of this unique mat! I can invision it in my art studio as I post this comment.

  19. My favorite Wuslu piece is the Decker Console Table because I have the PERFECT place for it in my eat-in kitchen area to place our downstairs TV upon. The wood and metal compliment my decor totally!

  20. Love the Vintage Wood Basket with Leather Handle Strap! So many possible uses for this in my home, and I adore anything vintage! The bamboo mat is awesome, who wouldn't love it? -Cheree

  21. I love, love, love this mat & have wondered where you got it. It is hard to choose a favorite of past products, but the Darcy Pedestal Bedside table would be one of my favs.
I really need this mat, so hoping I win it! Your blog is my favorite.

  22. I've been drooling over that mat ever since I saw it on your blog. Last week on vacation in GA, a gift shop had the smaller 2×3 mat, but I really want the larger one. Need to place that order today!

  23. I am late in finding your blog and website but I just love it! I also LOVE your bamboo rug and of course, think I am too late to get one of those. I can’t seem to find it the places you suggested, but again, I know I am a late arrival. Any idea of who may still sell one? I really need to have one in my own dining room!

  24. Nannygoat sells these 6 x 10 bamboo mats for $145. Local pick up in Ardmore or Glenmoore, PA (Philadelphia), or request quote to ship via Greyhound Package XPress. Visit their Facebook page for pics of all the patterns and sizes available.
