My new bed was delivered yesterday!! For those of you who have ordered lots of pieces of furniture and had them delivered, this might not be very exciting to you, but it was thrilling for me. I usually dig my pieces out of the back corner of some barn and have to put a great deal of work into it before it’s ready to use, so this is a different experience for me.
The delivery guys even came early, so I didn’t have to run to the door at every thump during the “2 hour window.” After they set it up, I rounded the corner into my room and saw my new bed, my dream bed.
It looks even better in person than it did in the catalog. To make the day even sweeter, my new bedding was delivered yesterday, too. I’ll tell you about that down the road.
(It’s the Vienne Bed from Restoration Hardware.)
I was so excited to go to sleep last night that I fell asleep with my contacts in. I not only woke up with sticky contacts, but with a touch of pink eye courtesy of one of my sons, I’m sure. Despite that, the bed was so comfy. It felt like I was staying at a luxurious hotel. Except I get to stay there every night. And I can’t pick up the phone to order breakfast.
I have the grain sack draped over the bolster pillow to give a preview of what I’ll be making soon.
I also just ordered some more grain sacks to upholster this side chair (and make a slipcover for the ottoman)…
The walls are going a crisp white with lots of trim and detail, so I’m going to paint the armoire bluish/gray. I painted it last year when I was really crunched for time and I did a sloppy job of it. It’s time to fix that.
A lot of the projects I’m taking on over the next few weeks are for freelance articles. It’s pretty nice when my home wish list turns into my business to-do list. Once I get through these projects (and there are a lot), I will start getting pieces ready for the Lucketts Antique Market. I’ve already started collecting some things, but I’ll have to give it some focused attention. Since it will be my one big retail event of the year, I want it to be really special.
Before I look ahead to everything on my list, I’m going to enjoy a good night sleep in my new bed.

congrats on the new bed!
we actually DID order a brand new bed once – and it was delivered. . . and we hated it. that was YEARS ago – and we haven’t tried it again, yet!
hoping to see you again at Luckett’s this Spring but thinking it might not work out. . . we shall see.

Deliveries are so exciting! The bed looks beautiful in the room! Yay for finding the perfect bed!
Oh what a dreamy bed! Absolutely fabulous!
Sweet dreams!!! Your new bed is very pretty.
Blessings,
Linda
It’s gorgeous! I just love your decorating style. Every time I visit your blog I leave inspired!
It’s gorgeous, and I can’t wait to see the whole room come together with your unique style!! As natural as it is for you to make over furniture in ways that make me swoon, it’s nice to read that you were able to do just that over your new bed!! Happy for you!
Your bed looks fabulous! Looking forward to your upcoming projects.
It is SO YOU!
Sleep well mms and enjoy all of your dreams!
I adore all of it! The bed, the grain sack , and I’m coveting the armoire! Sounds like a lot of work, but fun too. I love decorating projects. Now, if I could just find the same passion for doing laundry….
It’s beautiful! I love everything about it – congrats!
te bed is gorgeous! can’t wait to see the finished bolster and chair. I know they’re going to be awesome!
I was closing up the laptop, heading to bed, when I spied the title of this post on my reader! I just had to see it!
It’s beautiful!! And looks perfect! I bet you are thrilled!
I don’t get much ordered in since I find most of my things thrifting, but when I do it is exciting! So I totally get that!
I LOVE your armoire, btw. Gorgeous! And will be just as stunning painted blue/gray.
Nancy
Awww all the hard work you do you deserve that bed and it’s beautiful!
How exciting! It really is a gorgeous bed. Can’t wait to see more.
Jeanette @ Creating A Life
Your new bed is gorgeous. I love the wood and detailing. It feels rustic and sophisticated. Those lamps are awesome too. OK love it all!
I LOVE your new bed! I was just in Restoration Hardware this past weekend.. Just walking through and dreaming.. So I can imagine your excitement! And your armoire is just beautiful.. I see no sloppy job 😉 But I’m excited to see your room finished with the blue/grey armoire! Thanks for all your neat posts! Jen
I’ve walked through RH and dreamed for years. Until this bed, I’ve had nothing but a catalog from their store, so it really is awesome. 🙂
Oooh, what a fun delivery! It’s so perfect for your style. Sweet dreams.
Good for you Marian! The bed looks terrific and with all that you do, you deserve to be pampered! Thanks for sharing! I’ll be looking forward to what you do with the chair and the armoire and how it ties in with the rest of the room.
Greetings from the south of old Germany, Siggie
I don’t know about everyone else, but I am so glad you are back to focusing on blogging and working on your home. don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed seeing your booth and seeing your paint line being birthed, but the home and life posts are my favorites!! Your home is so darling and it gives me so many ideas and hope that I can do it too! Just love your blog and your style so much. May God Bless!
Thank you so much for saying that! It’s been so strange to spend so much time and money on my house and I wasn’t sure if people would be sick of it. I’m really, really enjoying it and honestly needed a break from the constant painting, tagging, hauling, etc.
Your bedroom is going to be gorgeous Marian! Don’t get too distracted looking at your new bed lol…
Wow Marian, that is a beautiful bed, I can’t wait to see the room all pulled together. Have a good one,
Audrey @ neverendingdecorating.blogspot.com
Love your new bed and bedding! I can understand why it was on your wish list. It is lovely! Look forward to seeing you room transformation.
Have a Wonderful Day and a Restful Night,
Suzanne
The bed looks lovely as is…so I’m sure that once the room is complete there will be a synergy of beauty and inspiration…as so much of your work!
I also wanted to mention that lately I’ve been getting a message that says the ‘script’ from your page is very busy and it might not load…and, each time I scroll downward, I get a lot of black screen before it fills in…someone told me it’s when a page has a lot of movement (like the ads that ‘flicker’)…I’m not sure if they are correct or if it’s my computer…have you heard this from anyone else?
Love the new bed and know what you mean about dragging something home rather than brand new. This is a beautiful piece and I can’t wait to see the finished room.
Well I need to get off the computer and start working on the two twin beds I dragged home for a guest room…they certainly need some help before a guest will be able to use them.
Oh, your new bed is absolutely gorgeous! What a dream!
The new bed is lovely! I especially like the bedside lamps. Can’t wait to see the armoire with it’s new paint!
How funny that you were so excited you slept with your contacts on!!! It beautiful, sweet dreams, always!!
I love that bed! Where do you get your grain sacks from? I love the one you have draped, it matches the headboard perfectly.
I bought some from a fellow vendor at Lucketts, but on go-to source when I can’t find them there is a dealer on Etsy called “grainsack.” She has very nice grain sacks for about $45/each. Given that I only need two to upholstery a chair, it’s worth it to me.
I ordered a very similar bed (diffierent shape on the headboard) this past Fall from Restoration and know the exact feeling you speak of. I still gaze dreamily at it. The quality is so fine, and words and pictures do not do it justice. I am still trying to decide what color I want to paint, so I will be watching for how yours turns out!
I don’t think I am going to paint it. Not anytime soon at least. I’m loving the finish and the fabric, but I like that I can change my mind down the road.
Love the bed and really like the lamps. Did you refinish them.
No, those were given to me by some of my friends, Alice & Jay, who make lamps out of architectural salvage. I love the gray finish, but I think I’m going to have to paint them to work with the new wall treatment I’m doing behind the bed.
The bed is wonderful and I love the lamps too. Do Alice & Jay have a website?

Love it ! Everything you do is beautiful! SWEET DREAMS!
Oh, I really love your new bed! It’s beautiful! I can just imaganie how comfy you must feel in all that pretty bedding, too. The chair is going to be great. I can already see it in my mind!
It’s just beautiful!! And I’m wondering about the mattress, is it new and which mattress is it that gives you such wonderfully dreamy sleep??
Yep, the mattress is new as well. After 10 years of sleeping on a cheap, slouchy inner-spring mattress, we splurged on a TempurPedic. They had the highest rated reviews and they are guaranteed for 30 years. It took some getting used to, but I absolutely love it and I don’t wake up with an achy back anymore.
Which TempurPedic model did you buy? I’ve been thinking about them…but heard they could be hot.
I got a TempurPedic two years ago. I love that bed. It’s the first bed I’ve ever loved. I like a soft mattress, and this isn’t the softest we could get but it’s heavenly. We spent about $4000 which is a hideous amount to spend on a bed as far as I’m concerned, but at this point it’s been worth every cent. I do not have one regret. We got a queen and it wasn’t the most expensive, probably middle of the road.
Did you get that pillow on the chair from HomeGoods? I saw one just like it at my HomeGoods store here in Texas! LOVE the new bed! It’s gorgeous!!! And FYI – Thank you so much for re-inspiring me! I’m finally putting my blog back together and getting my ETSY store off of “vacation” status! Your blog, your book, your “real” attitude have been a breath of fresh air!I I had become overwhelmed this past year and felt I’d “lost” my creativity and inspiration. After reading your book – I’m inspired all over again!
Marian, I absolutely love how you mix crisp whites, off whites and beiges. Love the new bed but what I am really coveting is your “popcorn” rug! 🙂 Enjoy your new “hotel suite”!
Oh, what a gorgeous bed! And so glad that it’s comfy too. May you have only sweet dreams and restful sleep in it.
Chiming in on what another commenter said….while I love reading about all of the wonderful things going on in your life, it’s the home decor/diy posts that I like the most. So no, definitely not sick of them at all. Keep ’em coming!
Not sure if you are using the AM grainsack for a pillow or to reupholster the chair or ottoman, but was wondering if you would be willing to sell it? A & M are my initials, and I would love to have such a pillow on my bed. You can contact me at nycpetite at aol dot com if interested. Thanks!
Hi Marian, lovely bed! I was wondering where did you get the blue fabric on your footstool? I just love it! Thanks
Wayyyyy cool bed, happy you! So enjoy your blog! & have become a huge fan…proof…? In last 2 weeks I have ripped up carpet, painted walls, painted my old pine trim off-white, painted 2, oops nope, that’s 4 pieces of furniture…and just sanded and put poly on my solid wood doors. My house is a beautiful mess right now, but I have the vision and inspiration to keep moving…refueled by your posts …& viewing the archives, my kitchen family room will be awesome. Then I’ll do my best to tackle the livingroom, bathroom and stairway before spring…cause thats when I move outside. All this from simply googling how to diy slip covers! You tutorial is the best. Soon to tackle the sewing: curtains & slipcovers for 2 loveseats, 2 wingbacks and ottoman. Sooo inspired! MMS thanks for the “that’s it” or that “aha” that has put me in motion; finally knowing “what I want” and the “how to”!
Smiles from Maine,
Kathleen
Your new bed is gorgeous! I love everything — your lamps, bedding & side tables. Good for you for not having to dig around an old barn for this sweet piece! 🙂
Oh my my! Now I understand the “Love” you were saying about this bed. To die for! Enjoy every nights sleep form now on. Sounds like you have some serious To Do list to tackle, not that you never have one in progress, lol.
LOVE your mix of woods, neutrals, and textures–my favorites–and your plans for the room. What a soothing space. I “neutralized” our bedroom with a natural linen duvet cover, white sheets, and curtains in white linen (thrifted find) for summer and dropcloth for winter. A few DIY sweater and linen throw pillows (from tired clothes in my closet or a thrift store) and a cozy throw complete the sanctuary feel. Aren’t you glad you treated yourself to your dream bed?
Dream bed indeed!!
What a beautiul bed & linens:)
It must be like a dream to sleep on the bed like that! lol
Our bed is like 15years old, I’m thinking to paint it as I repainted the rest of the bedroom set 🙂
Love seeing it all come together. It’s going to look fantastic!! Love the bed!
Congrats on your new bed! You’ve officially arrived. They ought to tuck you in and give you some chocolate for the price you paid! LOL! I’ll still be pulling my furniture out of the dark corners of strange places in Alabama for a while…but some day! I keep telling my husband I’m still building character!
oh….and don’t paint it! at least for a while! I know it’s inevitable when it’s in your blood!
It’s beautiful Marian – I have been dreaming of owning one of their couches for a couple years now. It won’t be happening anytime soon – if ever- but it’s fun to dream!
dreamy is simply an understatement……. sigh….. HEAVENLY! everything you do is that way! your home is truly coming together. simply beautiful. i too love to refinish furniture– i have to admit you have sparked the bug in me again and for my next piece (haven’t found it yet) i hope to try a little milk paint makeover 🙂 we are moving to DC in June. correct me if i’m wrong, that’s close to Lucketts right??
to the above post, Michelle: Lucketts is about 35 minutes west of DC and will be worth your trip! You can hit up the Luckett’s Store and Leesburg Outlets and other shops! Marian, do you have a post to direct me to–or advice for this design question: What is your rule of thumb for the number of painted pieces you have in a room? How many are the same color? -do you do a combination? thanks -cd
It really is the little things in life isn’t it? sleep tight
That is a bunch of WOW!!
Lovely! The wood carving matches your French style dining room chairs that you purchased from Craigslist last summer….
XO
Love the new bed, can’t wait to see the whole thing come together!
Ooo la la! Absolutely divine…can’t wait to see what you do with the rest of the room. I don’t comment often but I am on your site practically every day.
The bed is lovely and there’s nothing better than a wonderful bed for restful sleep.
When is the Lucketts Antique Market?
Looks beautiful! And to have a great nights sleep–ahh! I am excited my new pillows came today–hopefully no more messed up neck!
QUESTION…where do you purchase your “grain sacks” from. I looked at drop cloths today but not excited about trying that with the pillow tutorial from your book. Any other fabrics that may work well also? I am thinking curtains with the stripes along the bottom may look good in laundry and lower bath so I would love to know where to get that type of material. Thanks!
Marian … just love that bed and so glad it is comfortable. Your plans for finishing off the bedroom sounds so good. Can’t wait to see what the bluish-gray looks like. I have a hall tree I want to paint and thinking gray.
Have a successful week.
Audrey Z.
Congratulations on your beautiful new purchase! You have a lovely home. I am new to your blog and love it.
Can you please let me know where you get your grain sack material? Thanks so much!
Jill
Love the new bed….I know what you mean about buying something “done’…that is something completely foreign to me as well! I can’t wait to see what you do with the bedding!
Congratulations on your new bed. I completely understand. I asked my husband to buy me an upholstered bed for Christmas this year. I have been designing lovely bedrooms for clients and I haven’t even had a headboard for the past ten years.
I am also a big bargain hunter and rarely buy things for myself that are new. I like the thrill of the hunt and rescuing furniture that still has a lot of life left in it.
My bed makes my whole room feel more complete. I am not even changing my bedding since I still love it. I still need to hang art and update some lighting though.
Enjoy getting into bed each evening. I look forward to seeing your completed room.
Love the new bed! Looks just great like everything you do!!
Marian…such a gorgeous bed…you are obviously so thrilled with it…love the grain sack over the pillow…can’t wait to see the projects you have in store for that room.
Love your new bed…we just ordered a bed from Hooker Furniture that is a wonderful upholstered bed. It was delivered a month ago and I love it! It is the Rhapsody collection by Hooker Furniture. We also purchased the two pedestal tables instead of the end tables…I am looking for lamps and noticed the two you have. Wondered where you purchased those…it seems like I have run across them somewhere and can’t remember where I saw them. Thanks for your help! 🙂
Your new bed is absolutely wonderful! I must admit I´m a little bit jealous… 😉 I bought my bed ten years ago and to do a favour to my boyfriend I choosed a more modern/classic upholstered bed. But since a while I wish to give a little more nostalgia and cozyness to my bedroom. Because I have nearly no money to spend I´m still searching for that one great idea… 😉
Looking forward for the upcoming changes of your bedroom. Sure it will be awesome!
OMG, I love that BED!!!! It is just too too nice!!!
Oh, heavy, HEAVY sigh…being a dog lover (an undisciplined dog lover) I haven’t had a decent looking bedroom in years. I finally gave up. You just can’t have anything nice when you have two big, hairy, dirty, slobbering (but also precious) dogs in bed with you at all times. When they’re gone I’ve sworn to get one of those little toy dogs that can’t jump into the bed. THEN I’ll be excited about my bedroom. Love yours. It’s very sophisticated. Congrats.
Marion the bed and linens are beautiful. Can’t wait to see the room when your finished. So happy for you !
Vanessa
AAAaaaahhhh!! Big girlie squeals! Looks beautiful! Love everything you do and am enjoying reading through “Inspired You” and posting quotes from your book on my facebook status. Was so excited to receive it along with some long-time-dreamed-about milk paint from my sister in law in the USA. Made it all the way to Australia just after Christmas. Can’t wait to use it and I’m studying your youtube tutorials like a nerd student, cuz I don’t want to mess up! LOL.
So elegant!!! Love RH!! It’s my dream store to look around. It’s so exciting to have a restful perfect bedroom done just to your liking!!! Love your sacks for decor too!
Nice beds, create sweet dreams!!! Very nice…!
Gorgeous!
Absolutely love your bed! And the rug from HomeGoods is perfect. You make such good choices! I can’t wait to see it all completed. You are so inspiring to me. I loved your shopping trip to HomeGoods and TJ Maxx too! Sounds just like me. Thanks for everything you do.
I love your bed 🙂 And your chair. Actually, I own that set of chairs, but they are not nearly in that good condition, and quite honestly I can’t take them with me when I move (insert sad face) but I do love them!
Enjoy beautiful sleepful nights!
Love the bed! And how fun that it is as wonderful as you hoped…. Nice when that happens:)
Okay,
I know you had plates on the wall before…
Am about to hang some on my dining room wall… Any pointers for an easy way to hang them without me making 48 holes til I get it right???
Yep, I actually have a post on that… https://missmustardseed.com/2010/07/measure-twice-hang-once/
My question is.. Did you let Mr Mustard Seed sleep in it also? *Smile*
I am envious, which is different than jealous! That means I am so happy that you got a great opportunity to get your dream bed on sale, and that your business is giving you back things for you in endorsements and earned income! That means that all your generous information and giving to all of us, truly is giving you something for giving to all of us! Will be waiting for more bedroom installments.. and inspiration to get me going! Thank you MMS
Yes it is gorgeous frenchy bed….. Could not wait to see the complete makeover…..
It’s beautiful! I’m in the process of giving our bedroom a makeover, too. We’ve been married almost 12 years and our room has always been a hodge podge of hand-me-downs and the furniture from my childhood. Not romantic at all! I read your post about asking your husband to swap out the ceiling fan for a chandelier and getting a plug in fan. I have a chandelier in the attic and asked my hubby the same thing. He said, “Do people put chandeliers in the bedroom?” He obviously doesn’t follow the same blogs as I do!
Ha! Yeah, he needs a daily dose of mustard seed to straighten that out. 🙂
Absolutely gorgeous!!!!!!! *swooning*
Gorgeous – I’ll take it!! It’s so lovely – enjoy the fruits of your labor!
I too was wondering where you order your grain sacks from? Thanks~
the new bed is lovely – remember *you deserve it* !! 🙂
The bed is beautiful. Can’t wait to see the whole room come together.
Beautiful!!! I think it’s time for a new bed for us too! ;0) Enjoy!
Where do you order your grain sacks from? Love the bed by the way!
I’m sure you’ve told us before….but I’d like to know where you get them too. Beautiful bed!!!
I bought some from a fellow vendor at Lucketts and I get the rest from an Etsy dealer called “Grainsack.” You can get beautiful grain sacks for about $45/each.
LOVE the bed! I bet I would Love the whole house too, but especially the space your bed is in. Count me as jealous! But my time will come, I am sure of it 😉 Can’t wait to see how you pull it all together also!
Bev of diygranny.blogspot.com
How very awesome! Now while your in your bedroom doing the happy dance….Don’t forget your poor readers who are waiting with baited breath for the reveal. I mean seriously are you done yet?…..How ’bout now? Isn’t it wonderful when the pieces come together. Okay, Back to your happy dance!
I know, I’m ready to get it all done! I’m doing a lot of the room projects for freelance articles, so that will push me along.
Please tell us once again your source for grain sacks. As you can see by my name – I MUST find one like yours!
I know you’ve listed it before, but I can’t find it!
Ana Maria
I answered that a few comments up (after you asked, so you weren’t missing it the first time.) 🙂
sigh………
Your new bed is beautiful. How nice to get something you’ve been wanting for a long time! Enjoy!
Love your new bed!! Very excited for you!
It seem that we are on the same path with our bedrooms.
I have about 8 white paint chips pinned to my wall next to my new linen curtains.
Would love to know what color white you will be using.
I would not have the new curtains, if I had not discovered your blog 2 years ago.
I give you and The Lord all of the credit for my success in my furniture painting business!
Your step by step instructions changed my life:)
Big big fan! First time to comment!
What a beautiful bed Marian! I know how excited you were to get it.My daughter is experiencing that same feeling. She just got a new bed too!
xx
Anne
Oh how pretty!!!! It looks great and myself and all your readers are thrilled for you. You deserve a few really nice things and you’ll have this bed for a long time. Can’t wait to see the whole room when it’s done. And, the new rug! Wow!!
It’s gorgeous! You deserve something nice…cool…I’ve only bought new furniture a couple of times and it’s very exciting! I will live vicariously through you;)
Very swanky, dahling! And how perfect that your new linens came just in time to pull everything together ~ xo Question: did you also buy a new mattress set, or were you happy with your old one? I’ve been researching – it’s overwhelming when you have chronic health issues and latex allergies. Do you or any of the Mustard Seed girlfriends have any good recommendations? Signed, “Sore Princess and the d@#! Pea” xoxo
Yes, we did get a new mattress, too. We had our cheap queen mattress for about ten years and it was getting slouchy. We went with a TempurPedic and it’s heavenly, although I don’t know if there’s latex in it. I used to wake up with a sore back and now I don’t
Gorgeous! Can’t wait to see the whole reveal. Your entire home is beautiful!
EXCITING! And, it’s beautiful! It must be so strange for you to have something arrive that is already DONE, and you don’t have to do anything to it! I know you have having a ball doing up your bedroom right now!
Cindy
Mariam,
I’m a big RH fan and I’m waiting on my delivery of the 19th c. Campaign Bed in white (was going to paint/reinvent my existing bed, but got lazy and decided to buy). I love your bed too, it’s super French! Is your bedding from RH too (minus the grain sacks)? I’ve got my eye on the vintage Belgian Linen!!
Please tell us the model of TempurPedic mattress you bought. I have had a Sleep Number bed now, (for 8-9 years) and I’m thinking of going to a TempurPedic, but I’m so overwhelmed by the variety, prices, and reviews.
Thanks,
Kat
I’m also looking for a new bed. Oprah had the TempurPedic Cloud Supreme on her favorite things list last year if that helps! Supposedly she has one in every bedroom!
Yes, I am loving the bed! I was so impressed with the quality. I can be a snob about new furniture (I think old is much better, but I am so happy and would by from them again. Yes, I got the Cloud Supreme mattress. We had a cheap, slouchy inner spring mattress for 10 years and it was time to splurge on something. I sank into it at the store and there was no going back. The reviews for it are very high as well.
The bed is GORGEOUS, Marian!
I am so happy for you!!!
And I am looking forward to your projects, too!!!
Once you asked what was our “pie in the sky” wish, and one of my wishes is to have my house in a magazine. So I love that your projects are also your assignments, it sounds like a dream come true!
I hope you sleeping soundly now!
Hugs
Claudine
Marian and Angela….thanks!!! 🙂
-Kat
I’ve been eyeing this bed at RH website for a looooooong time too! When I saw this on your blog, I went ahead and ordered it : ) the price is still on the pricey side for me but I really fell in love with this bed : ) thanks for posting
Where did you get your bed linens? Do you have a bedskirt on the bed? I can’t tell from the photos. You have great taste. Beautiful job.
I have a chance to get a bed just like yours on Craigslist. Are you still satisfied with the bed? I think it’s beautiful! Is yours king or queen? Also…… Pine Cone Hill bed linens are not in my budget — any ideas on recreating a “Pine Cone Hill look” at a lower cost? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I love your blog!
Hi Marian!
I am in the market for a new bed for our master bedroom and remembered your lovely Restoration Hardware bed. I was wondering which finish you went with. I’m thinking it looks like the burnt oak finish.
