Lovely Little Lamp

I saw this lamp at my neighbor’s yard sale for $3.00 and had to buy it. I just loved the shape of it and the flower-like shade. (As a side note, I bought an absurd amount of stuff at their yard sale. I bought ironstone platters, 2 ironstone wash sets, pocket watches, crates, cheese crocks, old signs…it was ridiculous. All of the money I made at my yard sale went to their yard sale!)

Unfortunately, I don’t have a before picture (it was pre-blog), but just imagine it in a dull brass finish. I immediately thought it looked like a flower and the “stem” should be painted in shades of green with a creeping vine.

And the base was this great lily pad shape. Perfect!

I first primed the brass base in a spray primer by Krylon. I then applied the decorative painting in acrylic paints and finished with a topcoat of high gloss spray poly.

I think it will make a wonderful desk lamp in a garden room or the bedroom of a young girl. This one is going in the shop…

  1. I'm laughing at you because I just did the same thing…..had a yard sale a few weeks ago and turn around brought three boxes of yard sale items at an auction. Oh well I had fun.

  2. That little lamp is precious! Too funny how we go nuts at other people's yard sales after having had one of our own! I think it is an addiction! LOL

  3. I love the lamp and also wanted to comment on the bird. Was it originally brown/gold? I have a set of 4 that are different sizes and I just painted them all white also!

  4. I LOVE this lamp redo. You are so talented in your painting. I too have the same problem when I have a yardsale, I spend every penny that I make buying other people's junk.
