I love antique scales and balances. I’m not really sure why I am drawn to these, but I seem to gravitate towards the items that were functional or used daily in their prime. There’s something so soulful to me about antique fans, ironstone dishes, grain sacks, and old baskets that have been mended. Scales offer that kind of beauty in the functional.

I agree with buying one thing you really like instead of several you're just fond of, for I've done that sooo many times! I love your pieces here. They are timeless and therefore priceless!

I just love all of your old scales. I'm drawn to them as well. I have one and it is from an old hardware company in my hometown. I love displaying it and changing it out for the season.
Have a great weekend.

I agree, there's something about their history and graphics that are so appealing. Yours looks lovely!
Oh I love your balances… I keep buying them too… Mr. Hughes always asks, " Is this the ONE?" hahha!
Have a great weekend!

Lurrrrve those, especially with the adorable nesty add-ons. I'm checkin out my local 50% Goodwill day today, I'll cross my fingers for something equally awesome!
I totally agree. I love the profile of scales anyway, but those metal time worn elements complete with typography win me everytime. You have a wonderful collection!
LOVE the last addition as well.
Thanks for linking up!

While antique shopping the other day, I found a vintage baby/nursery scale. I had never seen anything like it! I scooped it up! I don't have a baby so I don't know what to do with it… but it was just too cool to pass up!
I love those!I would love to find an antique sale to find a scale like that, so pretty!
I love old scales too! Your white one is especially lovely. I had an antique scale years ago, when it broke I threw it away. Now I am kicking myself because I realize I could have repaired it with some epoxy. Oh well, I just have to keep my eyes out for a new (old) beauty now.
Oh Marian – only you could make an old scale look beautiful!
I love those scales too. I have been looking for one for a while. I know I will find one I like soon.
Blessings,

Those are all real beauties. And I am totally with you on the splurge thing, if you truly love them, they are priceless. 🙂

I collect old scales too. Mine are displayed on top of my kitchen cabinets along with some crocks, old blue Ball jars and old milk bottles. I just can't pass them up when I come across one 🙂
I think they are wonderful and you can do so much with them.
Great pictures.

Love these! I have several, but a few years ago I found this amazing grocery store "Springless" Ohio scale in the most gorgeous chippy pale blue paint. It must weigh 75 pounds. I fell in love, but it doesn't match any thing I have, so it's downstairs on our bar. I just can't part with it! You have some wonderfully unique examples! Thanks for sharing them.

You have such a wonderful collection. I love the first one.
Wow your collection is amazing – my heart skipped a beat looking at your photos – thanks for sharing! I love them all!
I too have a love of old scales! I just have one in my collection right now, but my Mom has one that I've been coveting for some time! Perhaps she will gift it to me some day!
