Before we go into my post for today, I want to thank you all for the wonderful comments on my post about design consultations. I am really excited at the prospect and I can’t wait to get to work on one. I must admit…I want to work on them all, but there just aren’t enough hours in the day. I’ll select one in a few days, so you can still leave a comment if you’re interested in a free design consultation by yours truly.
I found this wonderful antique window at the Lucketts Market for $4.00 and couldn’t pass it up. I’m a sucker for wavy glass. I didn’t take a “before” picture, because it was a crazy weekend, but just image this window without the writing on it. I decided to experiment with painting on glass and this was the perfect opportunity.
After looking around online for some ideas, I settled on a “Fresh Cupcakes” sign. I chose a font from MS Word and enlarged it to the desired size for my window. If you’re trying this, you want the painting to be on the inside of the window, not the outside, so tape the lettering on the outside of the window, reading the right way.
Make sense?
You want the paint on the inside of the window, so it looks smooth from the outside. I chose a French blue acrylic paint for the lettering and outlined it with gold leaf.
I hung it from screw eyes and hemp twine on my dining room window. I know, I know…I’d love to get rid of the blinds, but I live in a small downtown area and I really need blinds. I wish I lived on acres of farmland and didn’t require them.
I apologize for not having step-by-step pictures. I did take a few, but they turned out blurry. Bummer.
On a happier note, I am still on a yard sale find high tonight. I couldn’t go out “treasure hunting” this morning, due to a cracked windshield in my van, but I still managed to hit the jackpot on the way home from a graduation party. I’ll tell you all about it and show pictures tomorrow, but I will reveal that it involved getting about ten antique doors for $20.00. Ridiculous…in the very best possible way.

I shared this at SNS over at Donna’s blog.

I really love this project~ thanks for the how-to!
Oh I REALLY want one! Thank you for your smart info. <3
This turned out so good!!! I love it! Cupcakes are so popular now, that this sign is perfect. It does not look like it would be that hard to do. I know you were thrilled to find all those doors at such a wonderful price. That is great! I found a nice piece of milk glass today and when I asked how much, they said $1. I couldn't believe it, but I paid my $1 and smiled all the way to the car. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. If you have time, look on my blog and see my new "old" French dresser I got today. I love it!!! Love & blessings from NC!
OH MY GOODNESS!!!! THANKU THANKU THANKU!!!! I've had a 2-pane vintage window for about 5 years or so. I never could figure out what to do with it (I even tried to give it away twice!). Luckily, my offers weren't taken up. This week, I pulled it out of the closet and was determined to find 'inspiration' !! Thanks so much for sharing your bright idea!! I can do this!
So adorable! My Mom did something similar years ago. I forgot all about it. You did such a good job…as you always do!
Adorable! Love the sign, and who wouldn't want to indulge in some "fresh cupcakes"!! Might have to hunt me down an old window!! Thanks for sharing.
Holy Moly! That is so stinkin' cute!! I am always so inspired by your ideas. I'm going to be on edge waiting for the post about the doors. I know I'm going to freak out. lol.
That is a fun project…
10 doors? I can not wait to see what you do with them.
The window is so cute. I need to try it myself. Thank you for sharing
your tips. I love to collect old doors. I hope you have some fun ideas for them. Have a nice weekend.

What a darling sign!! I love it… though it wouldn't be allowed in my house… I'd suddenly have the urge to consume too many cupcakes. Subliminal messages. Caving… (Man, I'm hungry…) SEE???
I love hearing about other people's yard sale scores!! I had a slow yard sale day today, but I did score a cute brand new with tags Gap dress and a pair of Nine West peep-toe wedges for $3 total! No furniture to be had today, sadly.
I'm glad to see you doing this. I've had a family name sign in my head for a while. wasn't even sure what kind of paint to use…thanks for the inspiration
I am delighted by everything you do and this is no exception. Darling! Delightful! Delectable? Sure, why not! Ha. 🙂
Funny. I have a painted glass project in progress that is IN an antique door. I'm feeling inspired anew to get it completed.
Great job!! I love paintings on glass. You can really do anything you want!

Soooo awesome. I actually love the window right where it is because of the blinds!
But I admit, that sign would leave me wishing for cupcakes 24/7. Not safe around these parts. 🙂

Oh what a lovely sign. It looks as though it has been painted perfection forever.
I wrote a post today in which I layed open my heart. I hope you will stop by and read it. If it moves you, please feel free to share the dream.
Too cute! Love the mix of the gold and blue together!

You are so creative! This is a great spin on the usual kitchen signs that have been used over and over again. Absolutely a "Fresh" idea.
I love that! I’ve got several windows that I had “found” that are waiting on me to do just that…. you are inspiring me to get my rear in gear!! Thank you! 🙂
